The signature can earn you alot!!!

Hi Warriors,

I noticed that many new warriors are asking questions like,

- What is a signature?
- Why is it used?
- How to make a killer signature?

Let's take a peek into each one of the queries.

- What is a signature?
A signature box at the end of this post is your area where you can put in a one way link to your website or an e-mail. Describe your services that you provide.

- Why is it used?
The signature is used to advertise your services, products or/and your website. The primary role of this amazing box is to drive traffic to your desired link which may result in a sale!!! Making it simple, you can increase sales with it, if you write a killer signature.

- How to make a killer signature?
The problem with many warriors is that they stuff their signature box with unwanted text that is, to many viewers, so repellent that the link in the signature never gets any click. To write a juicy signature, keep these essentials in mind and you could be driving a lot of traffic for sure.

Do's

- Keep it short
- Keep it interesting
- Bold the keywords
- Be honest with what you offer!

Don'ts

- Do not fill all the space available
- Do not introduce yourself
- Do not boast about your product
Hope that helps.... Your suggestions are welcomed

The links in the sig file do seem to offer some SEO value.

If you spell out a big benefit you can get a lot of clicks
    to your offers.

I change my signature often because I use it to actually
    test offers, etc.

I LIKE the dynamic signatures here on this forum... change it

I test my signature often, too.

And sometimes, the way it works is just confusing. For instance,
this version of my sig banner got all of 27 clicks between 20th
and 31st December, when the offer ended and I changed it.

Oh, it had some text explaining the urgency above it - but still
      got very poor response.

Sometimes, that happens. The "Do NOT Click" button graphic got
clicked quite a bit! Hmm... negative psychology works better eh?

  • In my opinion, signatures and squeeze pages follow the same principles. According to my own split tests on squeeze pages, curiosity outperforms value: People would rather opt-in to something that tickles their curiosity than to something that will lecture them on any given topic.

For sure, but have you also tested the END RESULTS of those opt-ins.

I also find that curiosity is a great motivator but it doesn't always
result in more sales. Same as for an email campaign--you may get
more people to open the email using a curiosity subject line, but
      this always doesn't boost sales.

If you create a sig for the masses then your ctr could be high and sales could be low
although if you create a targeted sig then your ctr could be low and your sales could be
    higher.

One thing to remember is that if you have posted a reply to a thread related
to what you are offering in your sig and point it out to others in that same
thread, the next time you change your sig the thread that you posted in
prior could reflect something totally off topic to the thread you posted in!
It's not recommended that you do this as it can be viewed by others as
    spam.(Takes a Deep Breath)

Just a few quick thoughts on the subject.

      My sig's on vacation.

Before you get too excited (this comment is for new members) be certain to read the rules about signatures.

I see sigs that are links, anchor links, WSO links and full ad copy. The time I am most likely to click on a signature is when that person posts something worth reading in a thread.

If you are only posting so "people can see my signature" - it shows.

One way to keep it simple is to think about your signature like the
resource box at the bottom of your article.

If the article is good, you've a fair chance of getting readers to click
        on your resource box link.

If the resource box link itself is compelling and convincing, you'll get
a higher percentage of those readers to click.

It all works together, in concert, each adding (or multiplying) the
        effect/impact of the other.

As for "which is best"... the answer is ONE WORD... Test.

Well no offense intended, but yours was one of the few I ignored on the page - to me it's way too busy and in something like a signature, when I'm already reading a thread, I'll only pay attention if their short and to the point. Of course, if you're satisfied with it and getting good results, more power to you.

I know there are lots of opinions being expressed here about how to go about getting clicks on your sig.

But to the successful marketer, opinions are one thing, and reality is another.

Copywriters (and make no mistake about it -- your sig is *copy*) know: no matter what kind of preference people express...what they DO, is they take action when a piece of text (A) grabs their attention, (B) selects them as the appropriate audience, and (C) compels them to act.

That's the real reason we click on sigs. It's the real reason we click on "buy now" buttons on sales pages. It's the real reason we click on links in an author's resource box in an article.

That "text" can be the ad copy of the sig itself, or it can be the body of a post. That's one of the unspoken things that makes forum marketing so valuable. Just by virtue of being IN a thread, you already KNOW a reader has been compelled to read.

But the writer has got to speak to us in a way that lets us know (s)he's got what we need...right now.

If you write a post that grabs me, my eyes will almost automatically gravitate to the sig file, just in hopes it'll tell me what this writer is all about.

If you DON'T write a post that grabs me, there's still a chance I'll *happen* to notice your sig, in which case, the copy there had BETTER do the heavy lifting of snagging me on its own.

myob's, for example, turned me away instantly. It drew my attention, but didn't select me. "Edoggies?" Not sure who that's for, but it ain't me.

carson's DID select me. He didn't say anything above that was so astounding it would compel me on its own. But the sig was noticable, and as an ebook writer from time to time, it was relevant to me. Plus...FREE!

Caleb, to take a third case, writes so many awesome things on this forum, I probably would have clicked on his sooner or later even if it said nothing but "don't click."

It's a good idea to use Anchor Text in your sig box. That means that what the reader sees is the BENEFIT you are promoting (they don't actually see the URL you are sending then to).

      For instance, instead of including

      www my website com

include something about the benefits of your program:

Write an eBook! Make Money Fast!

and then hyper-link the benefit to your site's URL.

Learn how to craft a great signature because you will leave it all over the internet and all those back links to your site can mean serious business for you!

From my testing I prefer to place one link at a time in the signature link......it gives the user less clutter and just one thing to click.

I think the signature links are a great place to promote your services or products. I've gotten lots of leads this way to potential clients.

I think that having a nice looking signature banner is also important, but maybe thats because I'm a designer, and like to look at quality graphics vs. those that make you cringe.

Now please do not get upset that I said crappy signature banners. I did not specifically pick or call one out.

One thing though that might be food for thought.

When and how you represent yourself, be it in person, in speech, graphics, sales letters, etc... you should always represent yourself in a professional manner and of the highest quality and manner that you can muster.......

It really depends. There's no "right" or "wrong" answer to this, it just depends what you want to have the spotlight on.

For example, if you want to highlight a product that you just recently introduced and want the focus to be only on that, then use just one signature link. If you have multiple products that you want people to have increased awareness about, then use multiple signature links. I wouldn't recommend more than three though, as anything more would start looking pretty cluttered.

Bold the keywords vs bold everything? Which is better? I just bold everything, but I'm not sure if this is the right approach.

If bold everything was successful, what about ALL CAPS?

Also, keep in mind the kind of audience who will be reading your signature. Here, most people aren't going to fall for some pyramid or MLM scheme if it is in your signature.

The signature provides an extra advertisement for those that just have to advertise on the forum. Instead of posting advertisement threads and getting banned, the signature allows you to continue the advertisement addiction and keep your WF account.

    Cool tips , cheers

Thank you for posting this question. I have been considering adding a logo to my signature, but was trying to get feedback/insight as to whether it was worthwhile. I am going to add a logo, while working to ensure my posts are worthwhile. I also agree with the process of split testing, as mentioned previously. I appreciate the insight and suggestions posted here.

The style that you choose for your signature does have an impact on the viewer so take some time to stylize your signature but not too much that it becomes too irritating to read .....

Ha! Just started on here, first thing I've done is create my signature and first topic I click through to is about signatures! Very different approaches from people on here. I tend to find the overlong signatures look as if they're trying too hard, but maybe I'm missing the point. Wouldn't life be great if you could see everybody's results? Then it wouldn't be marketing, I guess. Get learning, Mikey!

I have another question relating to signatures... I have always felt a person should wait a while after he joins a forum to use a signature. What do the rest of you think about this?

Now for the why I feel that way, in case you never thought of it....

I am or was a shy marketer... I am working on that Actually, I enjoy taking part now that I am getting use to how forms work and learning the rules.

So... for a long time I read forums but did not join. Now I have joined a couple but have never made a signature yet because I was afraid someone might think I just joined to advertise.
What do you think?? Am I thinking wrong?

Thanks for all the good info guys.

Can you put anchor text in the links, or do you have to pay the $60 fee to have that option?

Probably worthwhile in the long run to have a banner sig but was just wondering.

Wow. Great thread here. I'm learning a lot.

Now, I'm a bit new to this so please bare with me. Would the backlink created by the signature be considered an anchor text backlink, and if so, wouldn't you want to use your keyword in the anchor text?

Also, I'd love a critique of my signature if you guys don't mind.

Not sure about your question, but I'm pretty sure that direct affiliate links are a no no in your signature.

Mike, I appreciate the feedback, thank you. However, I own the site I link to in my signature. I personally dealt with the drop shipper and everything.

Since you did point that out, though, I'm curious. How can I make my signature look more legit and less like an affiliate link?

    Just my two cents worth:

    1. It's better to make the entire signature a link than just a portion of it.

    2. It's best to offer a big juicy benefit, rather than a feature or statement, as a reward for clicking.

    3. Ditto #2, plus never use a web site address in the sig, that's what the link feature is for. (Why waste valuable space that could be better used selling the sizzle rather than the steak?)

    4. You could even promote affiliate links through your signature.

    5. Updating your signature will update it in all your old posts as well.

    6. Curiosity and incomplete statements that need resolving are good hooks to get signature clicks.

    7. Always make quality posts that add to, and never detract from, the forum.

    8. If promoting an affiliate link, try using an email address only opt-in page that builds your own list, that redirects to a pre-sales video intro page, which contains your affiliate link to the merchant's web site offer.

That's just good marketing common sense.

Hank, you give some great advice. I especially like #8 as a general rule of thumb for affiliate marketing.

After double checking the rules though, I'm pretty sure using an affiliate link as your signature isn't allowed. I'd hate to see someone new (such as myself, lol) get confused about this only to have their signature removed.

    Dear Internet Warriors,

I wonder why my signature was removed. I've seen other warriors' signatures and realized they do promote offers and have affiliate links in their signatures. Why was mine deleted.

    Any comments would be welcome.
