If you spell out a big benefit you can get a lot of clicks
to your offers.

I change my signature often because I use it to actually

I LIKE the dynamic signatures here on this forum... change it
in one place and it changes everywhere that you use the

One of the best things you can do with your signature is to link to your WSO if you have one going and then be active on the forum and post a lot of helpful responses.

Yeah the signature is a little marketing tool, and if used wisely it can surely kick in some mega traffic..... putting too many links is a no-no ....

I change my Sig File regularly but mainly to test things here and there.....they can be a great source of traffic if the what you offer is relevant.

In my opinion, signatures and squeeze pages follow the same principles. According to my own split tests on squeeze pages, curiosity outperforms value: People would rather opt-in to something that tickles their curiosity than to something that will lecture them on any given topic.

What do you think about my signature people? a typical one just like we see on the email message; I checked my site stats and it has gains some numbers for the sign, even though I didn't thought of using it as a traffic source.

If you create a sig for the masses then your ctr could be high and sales could be low
although if you create a targeted sig then your ctr could be low and your sales could be
higher.

One thing to remember is that if you have posted a reply to a thread related
to what you are offering in your sig and point it out to others in that same
thread, the next time you change your sig the thread that you posted in
prior could reflect something totally off topic to the thread you posted in!
It's not recommended that you do this as it can be viewed by others as
spam.(Takes a Deep Breath)

If you want referral traffic from signature then put quality in your posts.

My pic sig is driving me traffic every day, and making me about $30+ a day... That's not much sales volume for me, BUT it's worth it to me..

I know there are lots of opinions being expressed here about how to go about getting clicks on your sig.

But to the successful marketer, opinions are one thing, and reality is another.

Copywriters (and make no mistake about it -- your sig is *copy*) know: no matter what kind of preference people express...what they DO, is they take action when a piece of text (A) grabs their attention, (B) selects them as the appropriate audience, and (C) compels them to act.

That's the real reason we click on sigs. It's the real reason we click on "buy now" buttons on sales pages. It's the real reason we click on links in an author's resource box in an article.

That "text" can be the ad copy of the sig itself, or it can be the body of a post. That's one of the unspoken things that makes forum marketing so valuable. Just by virtue of being IN a thread, you already KNOW a reader has been compelled to read.

But the writer has got to speak to us in a way that lets us know (s)he's got what we need...right now.

If you write a post that grabs me, my eyes will almost automatically gravitate to the sig file, just in hopes it'll tell me what this writer is all about.

If you DON'T write a post that grabs me, there's still a chance I'll *happen* to notice your sig, in which case, the copy there had BETTER do the heavy lifting of snagging me on its own.

myob's, for example, turned me away instantly. It drew my attention, but didn't select me. "Edoggies?" Not sure who that's for, but it ain't me.

carson's DID select me. He didn't say anything above that was so astounding it would compel me on its own. But the sig was noticable, and as an ebook writer from time to time, it was relevant to me. Plus...FREE!

Caleb, to take a third case, writes so many awesome things on this forum, I probably would have clicked on his sooner or later even if it said nothing but "don't click."

On a forum like this, it would be foolish not to have a sig. I've generated a ton of income from my sig in the past. As long as you write relevant responses, it's like free advertising

Just a question i have in my mind after reading this thread..Is putting multiple signatures useful ? What should be the max one can include?What's the norm regarding this?

Bold the keywords vs bold everything? Which is better? I just bold everything, but I'm not sure if this is the right approach.

Also, keep in mind the kind of audience who will be reading your signature. Here, most people aren't going to fall for some pyramid or MLM scheme if it is in your signature.

The signature provides an extra advertisement for those that just have to advertise on the forum. Instead of posting advertisement threads and getting banned, the signature allows you to continue the advertisement addiction and keep your WF account.

Thank you for posting this question. I have been considering adding a logo to my signature, but was trying to get feedback/insight as to whether it was worthwhile. I am going to add a logo, while working to ensure my posts are worthwhile. I also agree with the process of split testing, as mentioned previously. I appreciate the insight and suggestions posted here.

The style that you choose for your signature does have an impact on the viewer so take some time to stylize your signature but not too much that it becomes too irritating to read .....

Ha! Just started on here, first thing I've done is create my signature and first topic I click through to is about signatures! Very different approaches from people on here. I tend to find the overlong signatures look as if they're trying too hard, but maybe I'm missing the point. Wouldn't life be great if you could see everybody's results? Then it wouldn't be marketing, I guess. Get learning, Mikey!

Now, I'm a bit new to this so please bare with me. Would the backlink created by the signature be considered an anchor text backlink, and if so, wouldn't you want to use your keyword in the anchor text?

Since you did point that out, though, I'm curious. How can I make my signature look more legit and less like an affiliate link?

Just my two cents worth:

1. It's better to make the entire signature a link than just a portion of it.

2. It's best to offer a big juicy benefit, rather than a feature or statement, as a reward for clicking.

3. Ditto #2, plus never use a web site address in the sig, that's what the link feature is for. (Why waste valuable space that could be better used selling the sizzle rather than the steak?)

4. You could even promote affiliate links through your signature.

5. Updating your signature will update it in all your old posts as well.

6. Curiosity and incomplete statements that need resolving are good hooks to get signature clicks.

7. Always make quality posts that add to, and never detract from, the forum.

8. If promoting an affiliate link, try using an email address only opt-in page that builds your own list, that redirects to a pre-sales video intro page, which contains your affiliate link to the merchant's web site offer.

That's just good marketing common sense.

Hank, you give some great advice. I especially like #8 as a general rule of thumb for affiliate marketing.

After double checking the rules though, I'm pretty sure using an affiliate link as your signature isn't allowed. I'd hate to see someone new (such as myself, lol) get confused about this only to have their signature removed.
