I cam across a guy that will build my website the way i want with all the bells and whistles. He told me he will give me a price to build it which was like 3k. It will have all the toys with software built in and built in marketing. The deal is that i dont pay unless i start making money. He will host the website, upgrade and maintian the website for me.
If i decide to walk away i can which i wouldnt do that if I bring my thousands of my clientes to the website.
My question is would you do this deal?

If so What should i have in the website. To make sure Im bring hundres of thosuands of people to the site.
Im building a fitness website.
i want the website to run on auto pliot besides the out side marketing but i just want your input on this,

I wouldn't have taken that deal either - though the guy sounds reasonable about maintenance and not having you pay until you make money, I'd say 3K is way too much to pay for web design.

It's way too much if all the guy is doing is putting up a WordPress site, grabbing a theme from somewhere, changing the header and saying "Ta-da! You haz a website!"

But, if he's creating something more original with "all the bells and whistles" and a lot of custom work, then $3k may be dirt cheap.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I really agree. Maybe if knew more about the design, maybe we could give an useful opinion.
How many pages is the design?
What and how is going to be designed?

How do you plan on monetizing the site? If you just want to promote some clickbank offer or slap on adsense that is a ridiculous price to pay, but if you are selling your own product or promoting a major physical product, it will be reasonable to spend that much for a customized website.

Thanks the webiste socail net work website. With built in software to promote. Raido brodcasting and tv plugins for live shows. Website is similar to facebook but has few hot features. Im going to try to get him to come down on the price.
I will be selling a alot of stuff online as well as offrening free memberships. The website will have built in marketing where you can design flyers and change it to hmtl and also will have built in email blast for members for free.

As Dan said: unless we know what you (and he) meant by "design" it is difficult to give an educated opinion. It maybe very cheap or very expensive... depending on what is in it.

"built in marketing" is a very flexible description, could be anything.

On the other hand, I'd be scared to have my designer hosting my site - he can lock you out anytime... Just saying.

If he hosts it for you, then he has the ultimate control over your business. I'm just saying.

Personally, I do no deals which potentially reduce my control over my own websites. I don't have my own hosting facility, so I have to use places TypePad and Hostgator to host my sites, as millions of others do. But a private individual? Not likely ...

He'd probably just install some premade plugins and a premade theme, so yeah, not worth it.

You can outsource it for a lot less, 3k seems so much to build a website.

My advice would be to go over to Wordtracker Academy. They have free videos to show you how to create content for your site.

Of course, they're trying to promote their keyword tool, but the tutorials are really good. I suggest reading the free articles, too.
