Exploiting Amazon's Best Seller List

Amazon realises it is selling anti-Amazon book - Censors it | TechEye

Apparently this guy was able to exploit the way Amazon's best seller listing works and got his book listed. Seems not too difficult if the investment is worth it, although blackhat at best.

Interesting read regardless.

Hmmm....I hope this isn't a common practice. I'd like to think that I'm really selling the best selling items on Amazon.

Well it was a pretty interesting read, much like you said... and hell, I'm even guilty of some of the techniques he used - I just didn't know that scaling it up would've had that effect. In either case, I'd say it's a pretty shady way to make sales.

My problem with the article is that about half way through it just starts ranting about 'censorship' and if Amazon should've done what they did - last time I checked no one questioned Walmart when they chose not to sell dildos and vibrators, why would the author and article writer assume Amazon should have any less than full authority with their product selections? Anyways, that's just my rant...

@ AFI, yeah it does make you wonder how much of this practice is actually taking place.

@ winds, Yeah I could have done without the whole censorship rant.

Amazon censors tons of content, most people don't notice it though. And tbh, some forms of censorship there are good, but i don't think its helpful of them to censor content that might hurt their business model

I would have thought Amazon would have had more scrutiny on the review practice and I imagine if they didn't before they are sure to now.

I know I buy products and suggest products due to the reviews.
