Where to Find Wordpress Templates That Look Like Websites, not Blogs

Does anyone know where to find a good WordPress template that looks like an actual website and not like a blog? I'm starting a website around my copywriting services and can't seem to find a template that looks very professional. Everything from Woo-Themes to the templates offered for free on WP's website don't really appeal to me.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks Warriors!

Then maybe you should describe what would "appeal" to you... i.e. what is your idea of a "website-looking theme". (WP has themes built by many template files, btw...)

The one thing you can do is change the Reading settings to a static front page. You do this after you have created 2 pages, assigning one to the front, the other as the blog index, that unfortunately displays all posts in complete form.

Some free magazine themes providing multi column content are a departure from the regular blog look, turning off sidebar displays of archive, etc. reduces the cliche blog look.

if you get rid of the side bar on any given theme, that will pretty much do it.

The same way as any other theme...
FTP > upload to your wp-content/themes/ folder (the whole folder with the theme's files)

Istvan, you are free to use this if you would like, if you do not like it no problem.

Let me know if you do not want it or you have downloaded it, so I can remove it from the post....

It looks good once its up, verses in the screen preview, because the background shows through as black, but if its on the actual WF background it's transparent....

        all the best,

Why not just go with a full blown website? Recently, I've been hearing more and more about webmasters switching to websites from Wordpress where you can design your own platform, css and so on.

          just a thought.

Studio Press has lots of professional themes. I use their themes exclusively - they have amazing SEO built into them, they load fast, very high quality and professional. They also use a parent - child theme structure which means when the theme is updated you don't lose your customizations.

They have quite a few business themes that look like websites - you might check these out at Studio Press.... they are all what you are looking for I think...

            Agency Child Theme
            Corporate Child Theme
            Enterprise child Theme
            Executive Child theme
            Freelance Child Theme
            Metric child theme
            Venture child theme

But honestly, I've had custom themes built ranging from 75-250 with outsourcers. And to really get it to NOT look like a blog, all you need to do is hire a coder to make a 'custom page template' for you (as seen with many elegantthemes) that is a 'full width' page template. eg; no freaking sidebars and all that jazz.

scriptlance.com is a great place to find people that can do that for you on the cheap...if you want the contact info for the guy I use that can clone pretty much anything static website into WP... just shoot me a PM...I have one or two that range from that 75-250 range.

I use Thesis - you can custom is anyway you like and have a static page on your front page. You will have to know some code or outsource it to get the website look. You can also find other themes mentioned above to get a professional look. There is a lot of customization you can do to make the site look more like a website and not a blog... you can also remove the "posted by" and date from the byline.

Do a search on "wordpress sites that look like websites" and you should find some ideas there!

You can also skip WP altogether and just put HTML pages in your root folder, but it makes it more difficult.

Take a look at this site, they highlight a group of one-column themes one of them might appeal to you.

16 Excellent One Column Wordpress Themes | Devlounge

Many newer themes are highly customizable I find it odd you are having a problem.

As an example, I like the Arras theme which allows me to choose 1 column, two column, or three column. It allows me to choose which side the sidebar is on (assuming there is one). I can choose what is displayed with each post, such as date, author, categories, tags, etc.

Platform and Producer can both be customized very similarly.

I use Thesis myself, which is excellent for customization. On top of that, you can acquire various "skins" for Thesis that make it even simpler to customize to your liking. You can find some pretty nice ones at thesis themes - Free & Premium Thesis Skins

I agree with Istvan that you should be more specific about the layout that you are looking for. How about searching for 'wordpress cms themes'? CMS themes are usually very flexible.

Hybrid News: Child theme of the Hybrid WordPress Theme is another nice theme.

No idea what you think a website should look like TBH. You can customise anmy wordrpess them in about five minutes by removing date and timestamps from single.php, post.php and page.php. Just pick a theme that allows loads of customisation, or better still take ten minutes to learn how to chop the css and php files yourself, then you will never face this problem again.

    Try the theme called "weaver".

I use a custom page template for my sales and squeeze pages, confirmation pages, etc., with the Wordpress site and articles available via a link on those pages. These pages are still in Wordpress, but they have the look of a "regular" web page.
