How does one actually make an income from generating leads for offline businesses?

I've seen a lot of software out there (raning from $200 - $2,000) that can trawl Craigs List, Gumtree, Ebay, etc. to generate leads.

I've seen presentations (Dr Mike and Koz for example, or Jim Graham) and heard testimonials of people making literally thousands of dollars in a short time by linking sellers to buyers, or generating leads for businesses.

I don't understand the mechanics of how it's done though. If I had this software today I don't know how I would use it to do anything useful. Do I contact sellers or buyers first, what industries do I target, how do I do it without spamming?

If anyone has any real-world experience, please give me some insight.

Thanks in advance!

Are you talking about offering services such as SEO or website building to ordinary businesses? If so, I guess you could approach them and offer your services. The tricky part comes when you have to charge them though. If I was doing some SEO work for a client, I would ideally like to charge them a commission (E.g. 10% on any sales generated). This gets tricky to do though since they are offline (If they are a photography business there is no way of really telling how many clients my SEO work would get them.) I guess the solution then is to charge them a fixed fee for your work.

not quite sure what you are asking. i feel like i want to reply with a basic answer like "start a website and put affiliate ads on there related to the subject matter. bring in traffic and as it clicks through and converts to sales, your answer is found".

it that what you were asking?
