Does Ezine Articles Hate Me?

Ok,

So I recently had some articles approved at Ezine articles a few days ago. I noticed that only three of my articles are getting views, the rest...nothing. So I typed in my long tail keywords that are in my articles into the Google search engine (with quotes). The articles that are getting views? Those are the only ones that showed up. The rest of my articles were no where to be seen. And these are articles that have low-targeted keywords (is that the term. I'm semi-new). I'm talking like like 19,000 and 30,000 competitive pages. With those numbers, some of my articles should at least be on the second or third page. I don't get this.

How long does it take for Ezine articles to get page ranked on google? Also, can someone tell me how I can promote my articles so they can get views. I'm bum marketing, by the way.

Thanks in advance.

No, EZA does not hate you.You are just staring at the reality. If you want consistent traffic to your article then start doing a bit of linkbuilding (SEO) so it will start ranking for the search term.

    Why?

It varies, but by general standards it's very fast. I don't think their site is crawled by Google quite as fast as this one is, but far more quickly and regularly than most.

When you say "bum marketing" (and I'm asking this only because different people here use that term with different meanings, about 50/50 as far as I can make out), do you mean that you don't have your own site and are reliant on article directories as a traffic source?

I assumed so because these keywords are low-targeted. There isn't a lot of competition so I thought that it wouldn't be hard to at least make it on the second or third page. I'm not even asking for first page.

Yes, at least for now. When and if I start making money, it's going back inot the business. Then that's when I'll make my own site, host it, etc. But for now, I'm bumming it out.

It doesn't follow. Remember that although EZA is widely referred to as a "PR-6 directory", that's the PR of their home page, and your articles aren't on their home page - they start their life on PR-0 pages.

On way or another, you need to be asking for the first page, to get any traffic worth talking about.

There are certainly plenty of SEO things you can do with the url's of your EZA articles to send traffic to them, just as one does off-page SEO for any website. (Please excuse the observation, but it seems to me to be terribly wasteful to be sending traffic there for all EZA's AdSense and other diversions to gobble up, when you could be sending it to your own blog/site instead). I strongly recommend all the incidental conversation in this fine thread, and wish you well!

I don't think your problem is that your articles are unindexed (and it's easy enough to find out, anyway).

I think the problem is that they're not ranking well. I may be wrong, but that's what my experience tells me: every article I've ever submitted to EZA is indexed quickly, without needing to be "pinged" or anything else.

The other 30,000 people thought the same thing. What did you do to make your needle in the haystack different? Is it more shiny? Does it have a thread coming to outside of the haystack so someone can pull it out and put it on top?

If your article, title, keyword usage, and links are optimized you are working with a slightly shiny needle. If the quality of your content is GREAT, you have a shiny, glistening, blindingly bright needle.

If you have taken the time to build a few backlinks to the article by submitting your author RSS feed, social bookmarking the article, or even a few blog comments pointing to it, you have just put a thread which leads to the outside of the haystack which Google can grab and pull you to the top.

But, before you get too crazy about all of this, GO READ THE ENTIRE THREAD ALEXA GAVE YOU!!!

        (Yes, that was shouting.)

        Best Wishes,

        Barry

P.S. Dashes in your titles? Did you do it? Why?

(Final Note: Google does not HATE anyone. It is not Google who needs to give you love, you need to give Google LOVE and RESPECT in order for them to rank you highly. Learn what they want, and give it to them.)

EZA really is a tweaking of articles and headlines game. I've had some losers but also some great winners with alot of views and clickthroughs. Write for people not the search engines and use your keywords sparcely throughout the body and once in the headline. Have a better call to action to people to click on your article would be my advice.

I have submitted my articles to a few bookmarking sites, like Digg and Stumble upon. Nothing. *shrug*

As far as the dashes, I see a lot of articles like that. They would have the keyword phrase, a dash, and then something like "7 ways to..." or "discover the secrets to..." Things like that. The example that I gave was from Ezine's editorial guidlines. That said that a title like that is good, or rather, acceptable.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Greatly appreciate it.

Actually that is a good format for a title if it grabs attention, example:

Bacterial Vaginosis - Stop Scratching Yourself In Public And Catching Embarrassing Attention

(Probably a horrible headline, but it is the spur of the moment.)

A good way to determine high quality headlines in your niche is to start paying attention to two lists in EzineArticles very closely. The most viewed list in your category, and the most published list in your category. Your goal is to be in both.

A dash between your keyword and the rest of the title is not going to stop Google from indexing and ranking you. I have many articles, blog posts, and content formatted in that manner and never had a problem.

When evaluating your keywords, do not look at the number of competitors you are facing, but check in detail the top 10 competitors listed on Google.

Are they from other article directories, Squidoo, Weebly, HubPages, etc.? How many backlinks do they have to their page? What is their PR? Who are their links from? Can you get a link there too?

You want to know the strength of those competitors and not worry about the other 30,000 or even 500,000. They are the only ones you are trying to beat. Create a strategy to defeat one of more of those top ten with your content ON YOUR OWN DOMAIN, NOT ON AN ARTICLE DIRECTORY.

Make sure you start submitting all of your content locations RSS Feeds to RSS Submission services. I use RSSBot to do this myself. It is an easy way to get the content indexed faster, plus gives you a few extra backlinks.

Hey. Good question. I'm kind of new at this too, but have you tried pinging your articles so they get indexed faster? I personally use Pingler but there are several external pinging services available.

Search Engine Genie has a tool that lets you check where a particular url is ranking in Google for a given keyword.

Hope this helps. I'll look through my article marketing stuff and see if I find anything else for you.

That's what I did. I read a lot of advice on here on how to do article marketing before I started doing it. One of it was to search of low targeted keywords that at least get 500-1000 searches a month. That's at the least.

Have patience. Your page might not have been indexed by Google yet. Try submitting your article to several directories. Certain directories get ranked higher for certain keywords.

Here's another tip you can use to evaluate the real strength of your competiton when doing keyword research.

plug the following into google with your keyword in between the quotes:

    intitle:"keyword here" inanchor:"keyword here" intext:"keyword here"

Google will do a crawl and return all the pages that meet that criteria. You'd be surprised how little "real" competition there is. As someone mentioned before, Google is like a pool of sharks but 90% of them have no teeth, your job is to find the 10% of those that have teeth and beat them.

Some of your articles may not even be indexed in Google yet. Give them some time--and some backlinks! Give'em some love...

Take your author feed and submit it to as many RSS directories as you can find--there are quite a few.

And always remember that Google isn't the only traffic game in town...

EZA sense you a list at the end of each month on the top keyword searches that people used to find your articles.

This is a great free tool – When you right the next set of articles use the keywords that EZA has shown you people are searching on to get to your article.

    Hey you guys,

I noticed something. I noticed that my articles that have dashes in the title (not microsoft word smart quotes, but regular dashes) are the ones that aren't getting any views. The other articles that don't have dashes have the most views it seems. Is that significant? Should I not add dashes in my titles? I have seen other's enzine articles rank on first, second, third, page, etc and they have dashes it the title. This is why I'm confused.

After making this thread, I typed in the phrases after the dashes in the titles. It seems like after I typed in the phrase AFTER the dash, I see the results on Google. Here is an example (I'll use Ezine's example):

Fractional Jet Ownership - 9 Strategies to Help You Acquire Your Private Jet

The bolded part is the phrase after the dash. My targeted keyword is the first phrase, and then after the dash, I type another phrase to elaborate on what the article is about. When I type in the phrases of my articles that are after the dash, I see my article in the search engine. The thing is, those aren't the keyword phrases that I'm targeting. I am targeting the first one, which in the example, would be "fractional jet ownership."

Has anyone ever had the same problem?

Senior members already said the right things. I am new but as far as I think, you perhaps want your each and every article on the first page of google.

As far as I know, it is not possible that your each article get rank. You have competition with not only other articles of EA but also other sites.

What I learned is that, keywords hold the actual power.

    Hi Magic,

I just started out in the bum marketing thing too, and let me tell you, it is not that easy to rank high . I even had KW research done, thought they were pretty easy to rank for. I have been bookmarking, and ordering backlinking services. They are slowly climbing up the pages, but it takes time, it's not going to happen overnight. That being said, just focus on creating backlinks to them, there are some cheap services on this forum that will really help. Although since you are bumming it, not sure if you have the finances. Best of luck to ya!

    All the best,

    Matt D.
