Getting Paid to Twitter

Has anyone else seen the "Be a Magpie" (be-a-magpie.com) service where they are paying Twitter users to basically pimp their Twitter accounts out?

Okay, I know that people post self serving links on Twitter all the time (a lot of it is useful, though), but it makes me wonder how long before Twitter is saturated with ads...

I think Magpie is a bad idea - and I've seen a lot of negative commentary on Twitter about it. People go there to socially interact and network. Magpie is likely to be received as badly as posting affiliate Tweets.

I think you will see more and more of these types of services. You have to weight what it is worth to you and what your followers want or don't want.

I agree with Dana to a degree, it has got a decent amount of negative publicity. I also think you can't make general assumptions and state that everyone is in the same situation as to why they are on Twitter and why they follow certain people and companies.

The more marketers and big businesses in general are on Twitter the more used to advertising and branding people are going to be. Yes, there are some people having a fit at just the idea of a site doing what magpie is doing, but you have to also understand you always hear the complainers more than anybody else, while the people who are fine with something don't say a word because there is no problem.

I most likely won't use it, but you have to make the decision based You and Your followers and what they will allow or not allow. Some times testing it out is the only way to know for sure what works and what does not.

As to your question of how long till Twitter is Saturated with ads? Following someone is a choice and all you have to so to unfollow someone is click a button. If Everyone starts doing it one of two things will happen. Either people will get used to them and click or ignore them or they will unfollow and the posters will not have a following. Either way the site will adapt and sort itself out. It's not the end of Twitter in any way if it catches on.
