Changing strategy from "trying to sell" to "giving away"?

Hey guys,

So I think the weight loss niche - which I've sunk six months, a lot of passion and a frightening number of hours into - is extremely tough to even get a foot in the door, no matter what your "angle" is. But I'm far from broken!

And I've been thinking about what else I've "learned" that I can "sell".

Also, I'm very convinced that giving stuff away for FREE and list building as a priority may be the way to go in my IM "early days". Everyone says to do it, and the reasons why all make sense.

Anyone had interesting experiences of saying "screw it, let's give it away" that turned good/bad? Did you find that you couldn't stop people banging your door down after you built relationships first and overdelivered on free value, like all the gurus preach? Or should we always be relentlessly seeking out the dollar first and foremost?

If it proves to be an eye opener, I may apply the same strategy to my weight loss product - and give away for free what I've been trying so hard to sell. Which I guess I have mixed feelings about.

On a related note... Do WFers ever promote FREE stuff using WSOs? I've seen some $1 WSOs, but do people go crazy and use WSOs to give free stuff and list-build?

Cheers
Joe

Give away a top class report related to your product with real value on your opt in form then redirect to your main product as an upsell

We had a product that we just couldn't sell so finally we used it as content for a site, loaded it up with AdSense ads, and now it makes good money. Other attempts at free stuff didn't work so well so it can be hit or miss I guess.

I agree with peanutbutter, giving away freebies as a form of generating or expanding your list encourages more sales and more online exposure for your affiliate product. If it won't hurt you, giving away stuff can yield some good returns in the future.

Excellent questions Joe. I have found that with the time and effort and passion you have, that giving away value will drive the result you wish to achieve, simply because you would be able to give a way seriously high-value content yet still keep a significant chunk of content to then onsell. This is my experience and I hope that is something you would consider to be of value. I can tell you will achieve the results as your passion shines through. All the Best, Susan Poole

    Try it and see

I broke into the fat loss market through a back door - so as a side that could be something you consider.

For example - for one of my fat loss products there's a lot of success within a certain demographic so I build products to focus on that demographic NOT fat loss. Things like horse riding, knitting, flower arranging - I use free info for lead generation and then quality PLR at very low price point ($7 or so) to help pay for the lead generation.

End result is thousands of people in my demographic who already love and trust me and avidly read, share and buy what I promote.

Also I've targeted a lot of the conditions that are either caused by excess weight or where excess weight, diet etc is really making it worse.

For example people with bad knees may find life easier a little lighter. Diabetics and people preping for surgery. Even certain eye, ear and throat conditions are made worse by poor diet and weight issues.

Fat loss, diet and health are so mas appeal it's brilliant.

Number 1 rule is always deliver good stuff of course.

In answer to the OP's other question... yes, people often
run WSOs with free stuff in order to build their lists.

Why give it away for free? It is a good strategy for list building but it remains as that...GOOD....

Here is what I would have done. Create a short report with your existing product (could easily be done by extracting one hot chapter and expanding on it) and sell the report or $7.

Also, get affiliates to sell the same report for you for 100% commission.

Now you have fully qualify target audience which you can sell your product to Why? because they have already bought your report....

It's a great way to build a list. Short report with a sales pitch to offer your product, service... Put affiliate links in it if you want to, so it won't be for free afterall
