Getting free targeted traffic is the hardest part of the business IMHO. If you can get traffic then you have an edge on a lot of others.

"Good" articles ain't gonna cut it. They have to be COMPELLING, something the audience just HAS TO read, eye-chancing, head turning, unique, unusual, big promise, a curiosity builder that MUST be satisfied.

You can have a great article, but if the resource box is not totally compelling enough to make your reader rush to click on the link, you won't get the traffic. Work on the quality of your resource boxes as much as (if not more than) the quality of your articles.

I think we made the same mistake! In short i did little keyword research before starting my blog, i just wanted to make a start. I now know that in order to get traffic you have to do several things...

Firstly if your main keyword's or phrases that you use, are used more often by your competition you are going to be ranked under them. Secondly if you have less backlinks to your site which give you a higher authoroty, then again you are behind your competition.

#1 Are your articles getting ranked within the first page of Google either for your own site or EzineArticles?

#2 Are your articles actually targeted to relevant keywords?

#3 How is the quality of your articles? Do they read smoothly, have short paragraphs, sub-headings, and have a compelling non-ending? (Yes, non-ending....the ending is after the click.)

#4 How good are your headlines? Would they generate fear, curiosity, anger, passion, lust, or other strong emotions?

#5 What does "article marketing" mean to you? (Yes, you should answer it publicly, because then people can give you serious advice.)

    #6 How many articles?

#7 Are you getting views and no clicks, or no views to your articles?

Just start at the top, answer all of those questions, then come back and watch for the answers which are likely to come pouring in.

You need to try and rank in Google ideally. This is not as hard as you think if you go after non-competitive keywords. I'm not talking overnight here, you will have to invest at least 2-3 months of work, but if you do it correctly, you can hopefully start getting some good targeted traffic to your site and start making sales.

I've noticed with my articles that targeting the right audience can make all the difference in the world.

If your product or keyword is HOT and gets a lot of buzz, a decent article will get you traffic. on the flipside, you could have the best article in the world with a dud product or keyword and get little to no traffic.

The great thing about article directories is you get to test your articles to see which ones are giving you the most traffic and scrap the losers.

Just make sure your primary keyword is in your article title, body, anchor text in your resource box and if possible in the domain.

Also make sure your title POPS! You want catch people's attention so they click on your article.

A little advice for building traffic:

Keywords: In articles on other sites, as well as your own, keep your keywords consistent.

Anchor Text: When linking to your page from another page, format your links like this, using your keywords It creates a backlink, and it shows that your link is related to your keywords. The google indexing bots will love your site.

    Hope this helps

This is good advice. I did this to a niche site about three months ago. A week after I did it my site broke onto the first page for my #1 keyword. The inner linking structure of your site is pretty important.

Well I guess you will just have to work even more harder, and write even more better articles and audiences oriented.

Then don't forget, articles alone won't do the trick. You also need some backlinks.

Just keep working in that direction and in some time all should work out.

If you are doing article marketing without SEO, that might be part of your problem. Are your articles and website homepage optimized for the keywords you want? Look into SEO tactics FIRST - if no one can find your articles and site, no one will ever see your content, no matter how awesome it is.

You have to go deeper than that. Posting articles is what everyone is doing and if you just do that I can say that you will only come so far. Although there is nothing wrong with posting articles, it's just so time consuming that you would need a team to keep posting but ensure that the quality are news worthy and of high quality.

I have an online training course in SEO and Social media where I will show you step0-by-step in real life examples how to get traffic to your site.

    The reason is simple:

You have probably been writing good articles but you've never written a quality article. Almost everybody can write good articles but you need article marketing skills for you to write an article that drives traffic.

For example, all lecturers could be graduates but not all graduates could be lecturers. So, all quality articles are good but not all good articles are of top quality.

Offer free, original, and quality content on your site. This is the most effective means for increasing traffic to a website; offering people something that they cannot obtain elsewhere, or at least, not to the level of quality that you are offering it.

Get a proofreader. Poor spelling and grammar reflect badly on the services and information being provided; avoid unwarranted negative judgments by getting the writing in order prior to publication online

Avoid content generators. While these were once the delight of a fledgling web industry, they are no longer useful. Putting your own team's creativity online is what is useful.

Never copy and paste from another website - Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines are too smart for this nowadays and will detect copied and unoriginal content, sending you to the bottom of the pile.

Improve your search engine ranking by focusing your content on keywords related to your topic. This is called search engine optimization and will help people find your website when they're searching the Web. Make sure the keywords flow naturally with the text and when you are brainstorming for good words, ask around for words that come naturally to people of all ages when looking for your type of site. To help you understand better, realize that the keywords not only go into headings and page names but also into "meta tags". "Meta tags" are the software code that website visitors do not see but search engines do. Finally, don't overdo the keywords; over-stuffing keywords will result in a very low search ranking for your website. Also, be very careful not to place key text inside graphics; search engines cannot pick up graphics.

Get linked. This is a very important part of website management. Exchange links. Trading links with other websites that are closely related to the subject of your website can bring you more website traffic. These are two-way links because you must provide a link to them, too, and linking to low-quality websites can threaten the credibility of yours. Only link to sites that are dead on topic, and truly help your visitors. Instead of trading links, you could also trade banner ads, half page ads, classified ads, etc.

Be sure to not be too excessive with your link exchanges and do not make this your entire link building method

            :p

Some of the reasons you can have troubles in traffic are

              * maybe you have many competitors
              * Your site is new and search engines have not yet recognize it.
              * your site might not be new but you do not update it normally so no more visitors and new comers tend to visit.

Join the club! Getting traffic is the most difficult part of internet marketing but it also the easiest-if you can buy advertising.

That said consistency as other have said here is important too. Having well written and meaningful, not just thrown together articles in an attempt to just sell something are important.

See if you can write an article about a topic without thinking of selling, just providing good content.

I have an article I wrote some time ago that consistently draws traffic each day. I don't make any money to speak of, pocket change really but the traffic count continues to grow.

                Keep plugging man,
                Ed.

I like to go with long tailed keywords because they are easier to add into the content that we are writing about. I just stated and I see a little more traffic each day. Keep things current and fresh.

First make sure that the topic you are working on has a good demand and you may d some keyword research for that. Then post quality articles and then do all types of off-site search engine optimization jobs (you may outsource it at a reasonable price in different freelancing sites). Also dont forget to be active in different groups of facebook who has the similar interest like you.

Your titles are basic if you want to have a good ranking and attract many readers. Only if your titles will have the right keywords (for the search engines) and if they will incite the users’ curiosity will they be read, and bring you traffic.

Try many different titles for each article, submit it to various places making various changes, and test your results.

Many times I see that an article that was neglected by the public when I submitted it to ezinearticles, gets many clicks when I submit it to other website with a totally different title, focusing on different aspects.

However, have in mind that originality is not a good idea for your titles. Use the banal keyword phrases that everyone uses, at least in the beginning. Be banal and repetitive, because the right keywords are usually the same ones. Make good combinations, but always respecting the banal style. Don’t be creative.

Maybe you are having problems with the keywords in your article? If the words in your article are not searched much then no one will really see your site. Try to do a deeper keyword research and use SEO to your site to rank your site in the search engines. It means free traffic too.

Another thing to consider is whether the keyword you're targeting is a buying keyword; have you run your keywords through MSN's commercial intent tool to rate their suitability in this regard?

Articles are a good way of getting traffic to your site, but you have to do so much more then just articles. You have to put your website link everywhere, and as Lazy wrote the links to your website have to be anchor text.

Some places to put your link are forum signatures, not just this forum, join up and interact with other forums related to your niche. Answer questions on yahoo answers with your answer linking back to your site. Convert your articles into powerpoint presentations and then into videos and submit these videos to youtube etc. Blog commenting - many blogs let you add a link to your website. Create Squidoo Lens and Hub Pages, add your link to directory sites, social networks, bookmarking sites, join link exchanges such a monopolinks.com etc. Also depending on your niche you can add your site to topsites - I have a scrapbooking site and I get a lot of traffic from these topsites.

Another very effective way to get heaps of visitors is to create a ebook about your niche and have links to your website in it, give this ebook away for free. Give it away using jv competition sites, free ebook sites and forums, always collect email addresses before they download the free ebook and send them emails on your websites special offers and promotions.

This is just a small example of where you can add your website link for free, there are so many other places to add your link, not to mention the paid advertising as well.
Keep at it and keep posting your link everywhere and you will get tons of visitors to your site.

It seems like you are only focusing one piece of the traffic puzzle. It takes more than just a few article pointing to your site. Build your backlinks make videos pointing to your site try guest blogging and blog commenting. So many marketers feel articles alone will get the job done but it just wont never put all your eggs in one traffic bin.

There are so many effective ways of driving traffic to your site, so don't make the mistake of relying on just one or two methods. The more diversified you are, the consistent your traffic will be in general, and this in turn results in more consistent income.

Unfortunately, writing good articles is simply not good enough to get traffic. You need a marketing strategy that will help send people to your site.

A lot of people feel that search engines are the best source of traffic.

And if you rank near the top of search engines for you niche then you will find that you will get a lot of traffic.

The easiest way to rank high in Google’s search results is to put your site links in as many places as possible: blog comments, forum signatures, etc.

Backlinks tell Google that your site has “authority” and that will help it move up in the search engines.

Another method marketers use for traffic is article marketing. It is quite simple.

They write articles and submit them to article directories for syndications.

At the end of the articles they have a link pointing back to their site.

One of the best article directories online is Ezine Articles.
