If you lost your job today and only had 1hr a day to build income online; could you do it?
#main internet marketing discussion forum #job #lost #today
  • Well if i lost my job, I wouldn't have the internet. This is my job!
  • Ok, if you lost your job and desperately needed money, why on earth would you only allocate 1 hour per day to build income online?? After all, you've just lost your job and you have got a ton of time on your hands (with presumably very little money) - if I were in that situation, I'd go all out and work 12-16 hour days if necessary!
    • [ 9 ] Thanks
  • Not without losing my dignity.
  • What the hell am I doing if I can only devote 1 hr of a free day to online marketing? I must be having some serious, serious problems. Maybe I should just go be in a homeless shelter.

I currently have no job, and I'm working very hard to make sure I have the money to continue having a nice life online. I spend between 5-6 hours a day just writing or working on my websites.

1 hr a day doesn't cut it for a business.

    • I am in complete agreement, Sean. After all, we are basically getting paid to sit on our butts all day long, working for ourselves on the internet.

Seriously, when you stop and think about it - how hard is that? You don't have any bosses breathing down your neck, there are no colleagues to belittle or gossip about you, there are no traffic jams or long commutes, and you are free to just concentrate on your online work for as long as you want. I consider this to be a true privilege, and I work long hours on the internet (sometimes coupling this with offline marketing using the telephone) because there's nothing else I'd rather be doing!

    • Well said. Although, if you've got a do-nothing job and do IM, there's no shame in that. It's actually something I'm working on. I do sometimes get bored sitting at home all the time working, so I'm going to go be a radio DJ or something part time and work on IM between casts.
    • hahaha preach it my brother..lol
  • Well if that username that you have, MorbitlyObesePaypalAccoun is correct, then you mabey could gain profits from working just 1 hour a week.

But as the others have said, i would turn that 1 hour to 16 hours a day working, and im sure anybody would find it hard to earn loads by just working 1 hour a day.

Besides, what were you planning to do with the rest of the hours in the day? count your money or somthing?

    • I say if you can make your living in 1 hr a day, good for you. Why not make 12 livings with 12 hours a day and have a ton of back-up money in case something goes wrong?
  • I've pulled 10 hour days, even 15 hour work days. There is no way of building an consistent online income with only 1 hour a day devoted. Also, What are you planning to do? Unemployed? I'd devote the whole day.
  • What makes you think I have a job?

    • Caliban, when I think about it, I can see you being like me when it comes to making good money online. You might take a part-time job for a bit, because you're bored. But more importantly, you take it because you can quit at any time, and you'd make a huge thing out of the quitting.

Making it very memorable, and ensuring the awesome idea of yourself is ingrained in those whom formerly called you 'coworker'.

Yes, you can make it if you're going to use a large chunk of the other 23 hours to lay the solid foundation before you start building the income. Doing it is one thing but doing it right is another kettle of fish entirely.

Almost all the buildings I know of that have no solid foundation have collapsed. Building an income online is not a different scenario.

So, plan within 23 hours and build within 1 hour. Or plan for 1 hour and build within 23 hours. Either way, the foundation should be solid and the building should be consistent.

A war didn't start the day you saw soldiers with missiles and all that. It started the day one Army General woke up one "bad" morning or middle of a tense night, thought of it and planned for it.
  • I am of the opinion that one can have an internet business and only work 1-2 hours a day. I work full time at a job that I like and only work on IM after the kids are in bed. I get max 3 hours a day on it and it is often closer to 1. I'm not hitting it bigtime (I have been at this only since November) but I am seeing signs of roi.

I like how Shiloh put it: 'plan within 23 hours and build within 1 hour'. If you are well organized (I create a task list, set up a timer on my computer and knock off as many items as I can) I believe you can make a passive income part time.
  • If I lost my job today, then why worried there's a lot of opportunity out there for the deserving people, there is no permanent in this world, if you lost one then find another one.
  • We have 24 hours a day! why should you pressure yourself with that 1 hour?
  • What the hell is a J.O.B? Oh yeah, just over broke.....With the internet I will never go broke...lol
  • Yes. I'm surprised you didn't want to know how I would do it. Ah well...
    • [1] reply
  • Yes, just give me an internet connection and I can make money.
  • It can be done...

If you got super focused on mastering and doing just ONE thing that works and focus all your energy into doing it for that one hour, then you'll likely accomplish more than someone who has hours to run around like a chicken with his head cut off, unfocused, and trying to master everything under the sun.

Let's take listbuilding for example... Find a hot converting offer that you can redirect to after an opt-in... then go do 1 ad swap a day. Focus all your attention on optimizing and being innovative within the 1 task.

Or do the same thing with another thing that works... Focus all your attention and energy on it for that 1 hour, innovate, and optimize until you're getting all you can get out of that one task.

But that's not realistic for most people because they're not disciplined enough to go make it happen for themselves... Even if they have 12 hours a day to run a business, they still jump from one thing to the next, never master anything, and never dig deep into that ONE thing that could make all the difference.

Instead they find themselves scatterbrained and stretching all their leverage too thin.

    1 hour.

    1 skill to master.

1 task to innovate and optimize.

No guarantees... but it CAN be done. Heck there's a blind guy named Matt Wadsworth who makes 5 figures a month online. Get disciplined and make it happen.

  • How a day job looks Like? Coz I never had one...can any body explain please?
  • Reading this is very interesting. Let me give a word to everyone, especially newbies though, that the biggest asset you need if you want to make it in earning a living online is, get ready for it, CREATIVITY!

It was only a few months ago that I taught a homeless person how to make money online. I have a soft spot for homeless because I was there once myself.

He spends a lot of his day digging in trash cans hunting for aluminum cans to recycle for about .25 a pound. That's equals out to about 32 cans per pound. I said dude, you can make much more from what you're currently doing without changing anything.

I know there are all kinds of good things thrown out everyday for what ever reason, and this is good merchandise. One day, when I was homeless, while looking through the trash, I found a set of bookends and a few books that came along with it. Just happened that in one of the books was $1,000 (10, $100 bills). Come to find out, a girlfriend got pissed at her cheating boyfriend and just threw his stuff out right then. I'm sure he was pissed when he got home that night.

Anyway, back to my answer, he pushed around a shopping cart to hold all the cans, and some personal stuff, I said you can pick some good stuff that you think might sell and put them on ebay.

So to cut this short, our public library allows you 2 hours each day online for free. I helped him get an account on ebay, and paypal account (unverified, but still works), so he can sell the stuff he finds. Now I'm leaving a lot out but this isn't a tutorial.

Now he's got a small apartment, in downtown Vegas, for $169 a week and doing pretty well. Still just goes out everyday finds things to sell fixes them up when he gets home and puts up an auction.

Hope this gets the creative juices flowing in who ever reads this.

    • This is a wonderful story, and it's very noble of you to want to help the homeless people out there. Of course, this will only apply to those who want to be helped, and not everyone has the initiative and gumption to do what this homeless person did.

But this clearly illustrates that even starting with basically nothing, you can make something out of it you really commit to pulling yourself out of the hole. This story is similar in some ways to what happened with Ted Williams, who had the foresight and initiative to write about his fantastic voice on the piece of cardboard he used for begging money from passing motorists.

Sometimes we just don't know what we possess and what we can do with it, but stories like this clearly illustrate how in many cases it is our thinking and mindset that ultimately limit what we can do with ourselves.
    • ...and THAT ladies and gents, is how to TRULY help someone...A hand UP not a hand OUT like our gov't likes to do.
  • I may be at that point, as I can't stand my boss.

I would add that extra time during the day to working on my internet income and other ventures.
  • I also don't get why you would allocate just 1 hour to it. With that mindset it's definitely not possible. But as others have suggested, turning that hour into 16 hours will help build you an income online.

  • It will be quite difficult to set up a successful passive income stream with only one hour a day free to work on your business.

To be honest, it would be difficult to bring in cash by trading your time for money with only an hour a day too. You could do it, but unless you were the CEO of a Fortune 500 company your hourly wage will probably not be enough to live off one hour of work!

If I had to give it a go I might consider doing very quick jobs on fiverr so I could get a lot of them done in one hour. Perhaps if you were a good writer you could pump out a decent article or 2 and sell those?

    It would be tough.
  • i think cant do it. i will start looking for a new job.
  • If i lost my job today,i'll have more than i 1hr to build income online. What would i be doing with the remaining hrs since i don't have a job? Unless i only have access to the internet a day, then in that case i will start a blog and submit articles.
  • You cant devote just 1hr a day to build or earn income online. It takes more than that and not to talk of when you've lost your job.
  • Yes, I could! -_^
  • Of course i will do for it.I respect my job no matter how it is small or big.So i must do it.
  • There has been a lot of comment about the "1 hour" thing and I will assume this was a mistake and the real question is:

"If you only had 1hr a day to build income online, so that you would be safe if you lost your job, could you do it?"

In reply I think 1 hour a day isn't quite enough but 10-20 hours a week should be OK. A weekend "session" every week is a good idea plus I think 2 hours work is better than 1 hour interrupted than another hour.

I think 10-20 hours a week is enough to "build" but it will take a few months to get something big coming in. The idea is to work on building income streams that require no further work from you, rather than just freelancing those hours away for a quick $ (akin to getting a second job).

I need to spend more time on it and I am looking at how and where I can get that time into my schedule with full time work, commutes, etc. One idea is to use the commuting time as a learning time - ideal for reading reports or books or planning.

TV is a good way to claim back time. I don't watch TV much, but if I did then I'd ask "what does watching the next episode of XXX gain me? what does 1 hour on this IM task gain me?" and then choose wisely what you want to do between 7-8pm this evening :-)

  • I agree with rain21. As a beginner, 1 hour a day is not enough time. However, I will say that I have read several online business success stories that begin with the loss of a job. Fear can be a great motivator.

    • "If you only had 1hr a day to build income online, so that you would be safe if you lost your job, could you do it?"

I can write about 4 articles and hour, and so can most people. If you do that everyday for 6 days, thats 24 articles a week. Id then spend the 7th day of the week submitting them to the relevant article sites etc. After a month if you stick to the routine, you should have about 100 live articles. After 2-3 months you should start to see a steady enough income stream if you any good at writing, and have a good squeeze page and offer. There is no reason why it cannot be done I guess if you religiously stuck to it.
  • What do you do the rest of the day? This question doesn't really make sense.

Theoretically, the answer could be "yes" - but if you'd lose your job, on a positive note it would yield you more than 1hr free time/day. Otherwise i would have to seriously wonder what your priorities are.
  • I spend a few hours a week working on my laptop
at my local library - for a change of scenery and
to do some research for offline clients.

Anyway, I met a man there who had lost his job
and was looking for some odd jobs he could do.

Long story short, in talking to him I found out
he had no computer and no extra money to get one.

But he was a wonderful graphic artist - just a hobby...
not something he thought he could, in a million years,
    make money doing.

I suggested he use the library computer, join Elance
and look for jobs on Craigslist.

At our library users are only allowed one 1 hour
session per day because of the high demand.

So I helped him with his resume and showed him
how to bid and place ads on Craigslist.

Within a week he had a job paying $500 up
front and he just couldn't believe it.

So many people told him that finding work
or building a business online was about
scamming people and here he had found a
job paying more in one week that his former
    job.

He and I have lunch once or twice a month
and he's got more business than he can
    handle.

It's been six months since he
first got started. And despite the economy
    his business has thrived.

So yeah, you can build a business if you
use your time wisely and take action.

Sometimes you've got to think outside
    of the box!
