Changed a headline and more than doubled conversions

So, I changed the color slightly and text of a headline today, and my epc went from 1.70 to 3.60, literally, that was all I did.

If you aren't constantly testing your headlines, sub headlines, adcopy, offers, images, by tracking it all, you are leaving money on the table. Don't underestimate it.

  • Great point. The value of minor changes should never be underestimated.

    • Bill I think I recall you changed the positioning of your Adsense once and it had a huge effect on your earning, am I right?
  • Can't stress this enough. Split test. Also, here's an awesome infographic on color psychology. Check it out.
  • Wow that's sweet! Give it a few more days and see what could happen! I'm just starting to test out a bunch of stuff. Had a site for 2 years and was pleased with 6 figure income from it...until I saw that my conversions stunk so badly and with a properly converting site I could more than double that!!

    • really though? no offence but if you haven't even bothered to optimise your conversion rates i don't believe you are making a 6 figure income.

unless of course you stuck ads on an already massively popular website(s) which monetized it immediately, in which case shut me up.
  • Belcher and Deiss offered a bunch of tweak sin their Perpetual Traffic Formula seminar, each of many little changes made significant improvements. Your report certainly helps validate their advice.

Some of their figures remind me of the improvements claimed for the car ad-ons in the JC Whitney catalog, up to 10% horsepower boost from custom air cleaner, 15% for exhust... sounded like you could add them all up and double your horsepower.

    • Its a very good pinch of info..
  • cool, congrats on the additional revenue!

I'm waiting for someone to jump in and ask "what color was it and what did you change it to?"

    So, I'm asking?

BUT, I'm only asking because I'm curious - the color choices on jwhitebiz's site increased conversions, but may decrease them on other sites... it's not a guarantee that what works for one will have the same impact on others.

  • Thanks. Great Point. In fact, I am thinking about changing the headline for the current article up on my blog. I am just not getting the traffic to the article that I would like. This thread has given me the motivation to do it.

  • I just ran across Ryan Deiss's updated 43 split tests report that covers optimization tweaks.

    43 Split Test 2.0 Updated For 2010

There's a facebook like reward dropping his price to $19.97 43splittests.com/fbfans/
  • Make sure you keep the momentum going. You should always be testing. You've already doubled your EPc so whose to say you cannot double it again with some small tweak. Once you have your winning headline test another and another and another...
