Can anybody recommend some good software that enables a non-programmer to easily create software?

Please PM me any recommendations.

  • Thomas Belknap has a very good solution called Tiger Software Builder. Very solid stuff. Next version will have reporting and exporting. Looking forward to it. Check out his demo.

    • I've used Mike Chen's Create your Own Software but it hasn't been updated in years...which is a shame because I had a lot of ideas for it.

    • Is he even still around? I remember in early July he was talking about the update his software coming and it being in Beta stages.

I've been waiting for it! And hopefully it is able to fix the constant "error popups" that software has in Vista!

  • Frankly, Keith is right. They don't TRY to make programming hard. In fact, today, it seems TOO easy. Programming in PHP over the web with SQL is FAR easier than COBOL using curses on a terminal with ISAM. And THAT is far easier than the earlier using COBOL on a terminal with flat files. Of course, with PHP you STILL have protection issues, compatibility issues, installation issues, and you can't just have 2 users try to update the same heirarchies at the same time. Such a thing can turn into what the software industry actually calls a "deadly embrace"! The top two entries in google show it! That is just a fact of life.

    "deadly embrace" - Google Search

And that is without even specifying computers!

    +database +"deadly embrace" - Google Search

M/S SQL, and some others, even cause the longest running query to fail if a deadlock occurs for too long.

I have yet to see a program that allows the flexibility of most languages. If you DO get a program to write your own software, get an idea of what you want to do, and the platform, and make sure the package can do it.

  • Personally IMO if you want quality software or apps, then it is best left to the professionals. Go thru Elance or Getacoder and set up a project, define the terms of the project and the stats, what you want in the software, and then let the bidding begin. I just had a killer script down for personal use for $50.00. It was well worth the money.

    Cheers!
