Screen and Audio Recorder

Does anyone know of a good free downloadable screen and audio recorder? I've tried a couple but they were pretty buggy.

    If you have a Mac, you can now get Camtasia at a fraction of the cost of the PC version.

    I know it is not free, but it is seriously worth the money in my opinion.

    I have not had very much luck with any of the free versions. They are either buggy, lacking features or do not create quality results.

  • I've used cam studio in the past with good results. However, I did not record audio - just screen capture and annotations.

  • Camtasia is the best around IMHO. There is a free trial version available.

    Techsmith also do a free software program called Jing TechSmith | Jing, instant screenshots and screencasts, home . I haven't tried it myself, but it might be worth downloading.

    • Camtasia is by far the best option, but its not free. As the previous poster said you can use Jing which is free but there are limitations
      1) Max 5 minutes recording time
      2) Records in an SWF format that Youtube wont accept and its is very difficult to convert as they have built in their own player

      Jing Pro is only $14.95 and you can record in Mpeg4 format so you can upload to Youtube etc.

      Both can be used with a free screencast account for hosting your Videos.

      Also you can use Windows Movie Maker which is free on windows systems, but you cant record the screen with this. You can just convert Openoffice slides to jpegs or powerpoint slides to jpegs, import them into Movie maker and then record your narration over them. This works fine.

  • Cam Studio free and records your screen and voice just like Camtasia.

    Of course it's not as great as camtasia but if your budget is free this is great. I used it when I started working online until I could afford camtasia.
