Facebook Fan Page Dilemma

by ProEFI

I'm not sure if I should create a fan page under my existing account, or open a new account, or a business account.

I like keeping my existing personal account separate from my business, but I still want to be able to comment on business related fb comment pages. What really is the best strategy when creating a fan page?

Thanks
Andrew

I would open a new account and go from there if you haven't already created any pages and put any work into them under your personal account.

Don't create a business account on facebook because they are limited. You will want to create a regular facebook account and just use that for your business.

This way you keep your personal and business fb accounts separated from one of the other. You will be able to post links to your pages on other pages and your personal friends won't see that your posting on other pages for your various niches.

    Hope that helps.

actually what derek posted is completely inaccurate.

1- Facebook specifically states that people are not allowed
      to have mulitple accounts!

right from Facebook-> Help Center | Facebook

If I already have a user profile, can I create a business account?
Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook's Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we cannot allow you to create business accounts for any reason. You can manage all the Pages and Socials Ads that you create on your personal account.
2- you can admin/create as many 'pages' as you wish and no one will
see any updates unless you have 'liked' your own page. also: there are
no references to who owns/created/admins a page unless you go to the
effort to put that info into the 'company overview'

3- you can always 'like; any page and then when posts appear on your
wall you can click the (somewhat) hidden 'x' to the right of the post title
and choose "hide all from ..."

please PM me if you need help...

Personally, I have pen names for my various niches, and each pen name has it's own emaiil account.

So each niche has a personal facebook account under that pen name and email address. Each niche also has fan pages created under that pen name.

This has worked well for me because I do not like anyone to know my real name/personal information when I am working on the net.

Some marketers do it different, but that's always worked for me

@bigslamgyrl - just keep in mind that you ARE in violation
      of Facebook's terms. period!

not sure why people want to take the risk, as you can just
create pages and link different twitter accounts and blogs to
each page. no one would know that they are really owned and
      run by the same person.

ps- people that do this think they are clever, but do end up
getting caught (generally) when they try to run ads and use
a credit card and their (real) name gets billed for 3-4 fakes
      accounts.

What I plan on doing for my business is create a whole different Facebook account, and add a Fan page to that Facebook account. This way, I have one account on Facebook for friends and family, and the other to diversify my online audience on Facebook. Some folk like to mix it up, cause they have close to 5,000 friends on their original facebook account, and would be easier to piggyback that traffic. But, I say start from scratch, and target your customers with an entirely new profile. Hope this helps. O...and make sure you use a Twitter app to auto-post to your Facebook fan page too, such as Twitterfeed, or friendfeed! =)

If your goal is to use Facebook to make money, it would be better if you target your ads to serve the public who are concerned in those topics. Be strategic. To use Facebook to make hard cash through social ads, you have to study to treat it as an investment. You should spend some money for social ads. Do not worry. Video ads certainly reach the goal and probably translate into current sales, which could be the desirable way on how to make cash on Facebook.

I'm under the impression that the fan page is seperate from your personal page, you are just the creator of the page. You should have no problem using your personal account.

yes! a person that actually is making the effort to 'get' it.
beginning to wonder if any one is actually clicking the link
I posted to Facebook's rules regarding multiple accounts.

@Mark you have it 100% - create your personal account, do
what ever you wish - play games- post youtube vids, complain
about income tax, whatever. PAGES are where you do your
business! yes, some big marketers have used just the
standard profile ... and now regret it, as they want all
of the cool FBML tricks that 'pages' have, and are tediously
converting over to using a page.

and while I seem to be yelling into the wind:

1- your pages will NOT post on your profile wall unless you
'like' them, just like any other page.

2- NOTHING that posts to your profile EVER appears on
      your page(s) wall EVER.

3- if you have multiple pages? they do not interact with
each other, and there is no way that anyone but Facebook
will know you are a pages owner/admin unless you make
      it known on the page.

again, it is against Facebook's TOS to have mulitple
accounts. why would you want to take the risk of getting
kicked off of Facebook? it is such an incredible resource.
there is no "personal account, game account, business
account" 1 Facebook account is the rule. please read on this
page -> Help Center | Facebook

(yes I am bugged, as it really bothers me when people ask
for help and a bunch of people post bad and inaccurate info)

don't worry about it. It is incredibly hard to track down the admin for a Fan Page on FB. Unless you are comfortable managing and operating multiple "real" Facebook accounts stick with your original FB account and simply create as many FB pages as you need. If you think people are getting "smart" simply unfan the page and then you are good to go . Any questions please ask.

It's simple enough, first off as KEY has pointed out and several times also, facebook does not allow several accounts.

When you're in your facebook account, simply scroll down to the help section at the bottom and click on it, then look for the little flag, it will say "pages for business" click on that and it will take you to another page, then click on "creating and administering your page".

This takes you to creating a page, click the top link, "what is a facebook page", in there you'll see a link "click here to begin", this will take anyone to the place where they can start their fan page.

"OK ProEFI" you may already know how to do this, but sure it may help out the ones that don't if they come across it. The rest I don't need to answer, Just follow what KEY has pointed out above, this is sound advice.

Soon Facebook will have an option where you can swith between your personal and "page" account. Once you're in your page account, everything you like or do, will go to the wall of your page. And vice-a-versa.

The guy wanted an answer and I gave him one based on my experience. I only have three accounts for organizational purposes because I'm a heavy fb marketer.

True, your not suppose to have multiples but many households have family members with their own separate facebook accounts and facebook understands this.

Take my advice for what you will. It works pretty great for me.

    Good luck everyone!

I would caution you to not create multiple accounts. If you are going to be a long term player on Facebook, then stick by their rules. Sure you can probably get around some rules for a while, but remember what happened to all those ppc guys who got slapped when Google cracked down.

I agree...especially if your creating these for your clients and yourself. The last thing you want is them paying you and your giving them bad advice that gets their accounts banned.
