Are Seperate Blogs, etc an advantage?

The point of making different small sites instead on just one big one is getting more targeted traffic.
It will also be easier to rank niche targeted sites because usually the competition is less.

Exact keyword domain names are said to gave a niche site a little advantage, keywords elsewhere in the url help to a lesser extent.

Hiding the common ownership by having sites on different IPs, etc. allows them to be cross linked, creating a tiny seo benefit, like your Facebook pages, Squidoo lenses do.

It's easier to get out of a niche and flip the site if it's a self contained entity.

Your likely to need outsource help sooner with multiple sites.

if you have enough content inside of you, why not have one site dedicated to all 3, sort of an over arching site, and then create 3 spin offs on the respective niches?

I've had good luck with my IM efforts going the multiple "mini-site" route.

What I do is gather articles from sources across the web and publish them on my sites automatically. You must of course give the author their due but then add contextual advertising to the site, drive traffic to them, and let the system run itself. It really helps with targeted offers and making sure you don’t get penalized from the search engines for not having relevant content for what you’re trying to rank for.

I say separate them if there is enough content. As far as your network of Squidoo/Hubpages/Twitter, I would just create one Account for all 3 and posts my updates and articles to that one account. That's what I do. Saves you all the trouble and hopefully builds a larger following.

Start with one good Wordpress blog on your own domain, and don't stray for at least 6 months. Just write hard for those six months.

Stick to one gig at first and feel success under your belt before you start spreading yourself thinner.

I use a wpmu install(network) for about 60 of my blogs;saves alot of time;one wp install for all blogs;must use hostgator though.Try to use different IP's as much as possible. So far good rankings with this setup. difficult at first to setup.

If you can afford, and don't mind managing, multiple URL's for separate niche's, definitely do it. Gives you a better chance to target exact keyword domains, and protects you in case something happens with one of your domains.

You can create on page/blog for each niche or keyword and fully
optimize for the whole thing throughout the ENTIRE process.

On the other hand, you can naturally start driving traffic to one site using
article directories such as Hubpages, Squidoo and more.

I think the issue is having such diversity could make for a website which is okay in each of the three niches, but not outstanding in any one of them. As I see it, you have at least three options.
(1) Drop two and focus on just one niche.
(2) Develop three separate niches that maybe overlap with links going from one to the others
(3) Find an overarching niche that includes all three. eg. I learned some years ago that the whole of life can be split into 3 categories, health, wealth and relationships.
You have two of the three already and I dont think it would be too hard to tweak happiness into relationships. That way you can consider a niche like, "living life to the full" or something similar. I suggest you do some research into keywords and demand etc to see whether something like that is viable.

You have read my mind. That is exactly what I was thinking. Your post tells me that my plan has merit.
I have my overarching niche that includes all of the 3 major life categories.
I wanted to find out if separating it out into 3 will:
1) Increase my reach in some way. I do not understand the why and how of links. I will research this.
2) Find out which category of the three shows the most promise.
Thanks to your post I will start separating them out and find out more about links and SEO.

With a simple WP version 3.x.x install you can have many blogs (somebody - wrongly - mentioned WPMU; that project doesn't exist anymore, FYI).

And if your blogs are in completely different niches and you don't interlink them day and night... the need for separate IPs doesn't make sense. It is an idea pushed by host companies that offer them as upsell.

If you have 4 niches you want to work in
- Tennis
- Learn French
- Pay per click mastery
- Italian Cooking

then you should typically have 4 seperate blogs for them. so the traffic is targetted.
