Affiliate link question

If I post a link in my signature(any forum, not this one in particular), would it be better to post the actual link, or a shortened version?

On the one hand, having the full link would make it easy for people to just go to the main page and bypass me altogether.

On the other hand, having a shortened link might scare people off.

Any advice?

    Use a shortened link.

Many people use a service but I prefer to have total control over my links so I have found a url shortening script that I installed on one of my own sites.

    Depends on the niche.

Post a shortened link it in a webmaster forum then most know its an affiliate link and might not click on it. But that can be totally different in another niche.

That makes alot of sense, but I don't have my own hosting.

My basic goal right now is to make some money without the use of a website, or anything else that will cost me money. Right now I'm relatively short on cash to invest, but have alot of time on my hands. Because of that, I'm trying to use free methods to bring in some kind of revenue stream. If I can do that, I'll use what I made to pay for a site and move from there.

I'm leery of paying for anything because I don't have another stream of income. I'm a not-quite-20 year old, taking college courses, and don't have a job as of yet. If things work out alright, I can bypass getting a crappy minimum wage job and focus on getting my bachelors.

      So use a free website.

With a free domain-name, free hosting + Wordpress, or Weebly, or Yola, or Blinkweb, or whatever you like (just not Blogger/Blogspot).

I don't mean this to sound "harsh", I promise, but in the time you've spent posting here today you could have put up a free website, honestly.

No cash? No problem ... as explained here.

      Aren't we all?

Ok, I'm "not quite 20" because I'm now 21, and I'm not quite taking college courses because I graduated in 2010: I'm just making the point that you don't need money to make a professional start, and the additional point that making a professional start does entail having a website and gradually building up your own asset (the site/s) and your own business (the income derived therefrom).

If you are strapped for cash you can create a pre-sell page with your affiliate link on a free host, advertise your pre-sell page in your signature in a forum and you might be able to get some sales that way.

as much as I am not a fan of GoDaddy's prices? they do
have a very powerful control panel in which you can create
subdomains & then create redirects right in the panel.

so you could try to get a domain like greatdeal.??? or
bestoffers.??? etc and then have subdomains off of them.

this way you could have your links masked, cloaked even.
right at GoDaddy for only the yearly cost of the domain.

buy a relevant domain name and redirect it to your affiliate link. this is the best way to hide your referral link and gain more trust.

My suggestion to you is that you should use a shortened link. This look better rather than ugly affiliates link.
