www.xx As a WebSite Name?

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have an opinion re: marketing
an Internet service that uses a "www.xx"
domain name?

The "www" is the 2nd level, and "xx" would
represent the ccTLD. Technically, you could
say that such domains are http://www.www.xx,
but "www.xx" gets you there all the same.

There is one of these domains for each country
in the world, and most have been acquired by
registrars, governments, etc... but there are a
few in private hands...

What pitfalls do you see, in marketing such a
domain?

Cheers,

I just bought my first .ws domain to try it out. I've had a few .info's over the years but they never did anything, so I've pretty much stuck with .com's until the past week.

I bought a one word .ws domain to see how it will do. I've read that the extention doesn't matter as far as ranking. The only problem I can imagine is someone typing in .com instead of .ws, but since most traffic will (hopefully) come from searches or clickable links, even that shouldn't be an issue.

      Thanks for replying Cindy!

I may not have explained this very well then,
but this is a specific question to do with the
30-40 or so "www+ccTLD" domain names that
are in existence (in private hands) and whether
forum members see any particular issue/s re:
      marketing them.

Yeah, no problem, I suspected that might happen
after I posted it. I was looking for some feedback
on whether members saw any difficulty in marketing
        a site with the name, e.g. www.be, or www.af.

        These are real domains..

By the way, I love your cat photo! :-)
