Some Tips For Beginners
Because I was also there and I remember how frustrating it was, I have written the following basic guidelines for beginner internet marketers. Hope it helps!
- Learn, learn, and learn. This is the very first step.
- You will see that there are many ways to make money online. If you are just starting out, I suggest you following the niche sites model. This is building many small sites in different niches and monetize them using ad-senses and/or promoting affiliate products or CPA offers.
Do not expect to make a lot of money from each of those sites. As a rule of thumb, something around $10/day is a pretty ralistic quantity to be making with a minisite. So, you will need 10 sites to make 100/day.
Don't worry. We are talking about small, easy to set up sites. So, building 10 or even 50 is not as hard as it sounds.
- Most of the traffic to your site will come from Google, so you need to find the keywords for which you want to rank your site. Keyword research must not be overlooked. If you choose the wrong keyword, all your further work will be useless.
Use Google Keyword Tool to look for keywords with a decent number of searches and low and/or weak competition.
There is no magic number that tell you what is a decent number of searches. As a rule of thumb, discard any keyword with less than 3000 monthly searches.
Check the number of competitors by making a search in Google using your keyword with quotes. Discard those with more than 200.000 competitors.
Check the strength of the competitors on page 1 of Google by looking at their PR and the number of backlinks they have. If all of them have PR 3 or more and lots of backlinks, discard the keyword.
You need to beat at least one of those sites in order to reach Google page 1. The low their PR and the less backlinks they have, the easier for you to beat them.
- If you want to monetize your site promoting affiliate products, look for the right products to promote. You can promote information products or physical products. Clickbank and Amazon are two great places to start looking for affiliate products.
In order to promote products from Amazon you will need to apply to their associates program. They require you to have a website so build your site before applying. This is not necessary for Clickbank. Just sign-up and get the affiliate links on the products you want to promote.
- Next step is building your site. If you don't know HTML or CSS, Wordpress is the way to go.
Buy a domain name for your site and a hosting account. Try to get a domain name that contains your keyword. When buying your hosting, get one that allows multiple domains hosting so that you can host many websites in the same account. Otherwise, you will need to pay for the hosting of each website.
Create your product page (or several, if you are promoting several products) where you presell your product/s, and a couple of content pages (articles about the subject). You can write your own articles, outsource it, use autoblogging, or republish content from article directories. If you are publish content, you must give credit to the author.
Optimize your main page for the keyword you are running for. I´m not going to talk about SEO here because it will need its own threat. Just the most basic points to keep in mind:
Place the keyword on the title, headlines (H1, H2...), "alt" attribute of images, and anchor text of links.
- Ping your site (Ping-o-Matic!), add it to Google Webmaster Tools, and submit it to RSS feed to help Google index it fast (you can use RSS feed Directory - Feedage.com)
- Build backlinks to your site in order to help it rank on Google. Do it slowly and consistently:
Keep in mind that earnings will not come overnight. So stay focus, be consistent, perseverant, and keep working and learning.- Article marketing is a great way to build links.
- Commenting on forums and blogs. Do not spam!
- Sumbit your pages to social media sites (Diigo, Fark, Reddit, Blinklist, Faves, Linkagogo, Delicious, Digg...)
- Summit your site to directories
- Participate on questions and answer sites. Many of the have no-follow links, but they are great sources of direct traffic.
