I would guess you would do it the same way you would for any other website. Through the usual article writing, blog commenting and SEO etc etc. The problem is that you are in a pretty competitive niche there, so SEO could be tricky. That said, not impossible if you are willing to invest the time and effort into ranking for certain keywords.

Cold selling a membership site can be an extreme challenge.

You could use a squeeze page giving away a free product with an offer on the back end. you could use a free membership model with an upsell to paid on the backend.

Driving traffic to the site is the same as with any site you use any and everything you can ethically to do it.

Traffic is not what converts I drive thousands upon thousands of visitors to any given site since I started if that is all it took I would be a multimillionare but I am not.it is up to you and your offer to convert the traffic this is only done by testing and retesting

You have got to look at what is out there and to be honest with sites that try to cold sell traffic with no pre sell or warming-Like affiliates promoting etc you are not going to see a lot of conversion it is not something you just decide oh I want to start a membership site and send people to a site.

You have got to have a plan and you have got to have enough of a hook that people can't help but get in. But as I said cold selling a membership site is extremely hard get them on your list. Write articles and have a link in your resource box. put up flyers offline have a t shirt made. get some magnets made and put em on your vehicle, advertise online anywhere you can etc. what you are asking for is a solution to let you just go with it no one is going to come in here and say oh well heck that is simple -That would be other people doing YOUR work.

The best way I see it's building a list. And building the list will give more benefits on a long term business I think.

And why, I've said that? Because a "guru" sold a product about membership sites, and he told that he teach us how we can get traffic easily to these membership sites and make money. ( i didn't bought the product as I thought is BS).

As others have said, you drive traffic in the exact same way as you would to any other site.

      Personally, I would do this:

      1) Create a free report relevant to the topic of your membership site

      2) Give the free report away and build a list

      3) Build a relationship with that list - treat it like gold

      4) Give value and build upon what was said in the report

      5) Recommend your membership site to your list on a $1 trial basis after 3/4 informational posts

You can set up a 12 part email series that automates everything. Your job would then be to drive traffic to the squeeze page once everything is set.

I'm not saying this will work, but it's what I would do to test it. If it fails you still have a list at the end of it

This is excellent advice. As he says though, treat them like GOLD. Make sure you hold off on any offers/sales pitch for a while. You need to build trust and get them to really look forward to getting your next email. I can honestly count on one hand the number of opt-in lists I have really enjoyed and looked forward to getting. It is a lost art.

    Yup,
That is the best way to do it drive the traffic to your squeeze page and go from there

At least traffic from the list is warmed up and a lot more targeted
    cheers

You can generate traffic for your membership sites using:

      - Search Engines
Search Engines are still the greatest source of traffic. Ranking on the first page of a Google or Bing results page and potentially give you thousands or millions of views each day.

However, some niches will be very difficult to rank up in the search engines simply because there is so much competition. But the process of ranking up in the search engines is generally the same: get as many backlinks as possible from respected and reliable sites.

      - Advertise
If you aren’t opposed to spending some money, then a good advertising campaign can bring in a lot of traffic. You will need to find targeted keywords that will bring in traffic that is interested in what you have to offer. There are a lot of great advertising platforms such as Google Adsense and Adbrite.

      - Blog commenting
This is the oldest trick. It’s long and very tedious, but if you stick to it you’ll start to gain a steady stream of traffic.

      - Forums
The secret to successfully getting traffic from forums is to really try to integrate with the forum community.
The more value you give to the forum, the more you’ll see people willing to visit your sites and see what you have to offer.

I know I am the odd one out here, and I sit comfortably in that position. For me asking someone for anything (even an email address) before they have sampled my wares is an anathema. I, personally am tired of people insisting on getting my address to get their free report then bombarding me with constant sales pitches related, many times, to something that I'm not the least bit interested in.
I am in the throes of setting up three different sites, targeted at slightly different niches, where I give first, then invite the person to respond should they choose to do so. It's then a matter of building a relationship with that person, who should be treated like gold, because that is what they are.
My personal opinion is that the money is not in the list as much as it is in the relationship you have with your list. Look at the phenomenon of Social Networking.
I believe the reason why that has been so successful is because the days of set and forget marketing are well past their expiry date. But then, I am just an old bald dreamer.

I totally agree, it might not get a list of 50K in a month but its the "right" way of getting a member to sign up. I really get irked when people offer a free report and the link asks me to sign up for a list. :/

I've had way too many bum gurus littering my mailbox/es for too long.

I'm sure there are others that think the same. I just don't bother with the "free" reports anymore. I'm not in the IM niche so I might have a different deal handed to me but I would definitely want to concentrate on building a relationship rather than just offering.
