What's the best way to get traffic on a new site
Word has it that Google is all but discounting directories. Which explains why my last purchase of a 1000 manual directory submission yielded no results.
I tried purchasing some social bookmarking - same results.
Squidoo lenses seem to be hit or miss. I got no traffic on my last site from squidoo lenses but I did make some sales off a squidoo link.
Matt Cutts from Google recently said that article submissions to article directories aren't the best first move for a new site. Which explains why I've seen no traffic or SE love from these activities - probably anyway. He didn't say, but maybe they perform better on an older site.
So I'm thinking maybe they are on to this pattern. A new site goes up and the next thing you know the only links to that site come from Squidoo, hubpages, article directories, link directories and social bookmarking. Probably isn't an authority site.
So what's everyone's opinion? In this day and age what are the best traffic generation techniques for a new website?
