The similarities of I.M. to real world marketing

I really don't feel like typing a 1000 word post so I will keep this short.

I went to a certain Information technology show yesterday, and took a look at how some of the brands market the product to the 'show-goers'.

The product in comparison was Flat screen TVs, as my family wanted to purchase one for the lunar new year(Yes I'm Chinese), and almost every brand had those kind of "Hourly Specials", so I looked out for those, in the hope of getting a good deal.

I shall go by the brands below, and analyze how they go by their pitch.

SAMSUNG:

40in full HD LED TV.

Original price Singapore dollars $2999

The salesman first highlighted the original price, which was $2999, and then told the audience to bear with him for a few moments as he went thru some of the "key features" of the television.

First feature: Child Lock.He elaborated a lot on this,saying how it could prevent your child from watching TV till 3am in the morning. I shall not ramble here.

Second feature: SLIMMEST TV IN THE WORLD. he emphasized the MOST on this. he made it very clear that the TV is the slimmest in the world, and pointed out that it stood out from the rest.

He then went on to the bonuses:

HDMI CABLE: cable to connect to your external device(Set top box, XBOX, playstation, etc.)

Free camcorder: entry level $299, but what can you ask for?

Free delivery/mounting on wall. Made them appear like they had the BEST customer service.

Then they went back to the price.

*Insert Stupid grown men blowing whistles to attract attention*

*Insert stupid salesman shouting*

DISCOUNTED PRICE....

*Shouting.....*

*Whistling.....*

$1299!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He then went thru the procedure in which how they were going to bid for it.

There were 3-5 cards up for grabs when people grab the cards they will get the offer. They also put a time cap(1 min) while in the meantime the salesman continued to shout out the features that stood out.

SONY

First feature:

The fact that it's a established brand, and the fact that they make much better screens.(Turns on comparison mode)

Second feature:
3 years on site warranty

Same pricing, same features.

LG

First feature:
PROUDLY MADE IN KOREA..

Second feature:
??? I forgot

Discount:$1099 ($200 below Samsung and Sony)

Added sales gimmick:

I took away a little lesson after I went to this exhibition, and personally thought that we could all take away a lesson from how these big brands market their products. I personally think that a walk in such a IT show could be worth 1000 copywriting lessons that you may PAY to attend. These free sales pitches are PRICELESS! what do you think?
