Need a little direction..

Hi yo'l, I'm still new to all this, and am picking up some fantastic info on here, useful replies come thick and fast

I need a little guidance on how to procede with my blog/IM venture.

After much niche and keyword research, I settled on a micro niche in the fitness area, something I know something about.

The problem is, it's ultra micro niche... It's a very searched phrase on google, with pretty low competition, so that's why I chose it. The url also uses the key phrase...

I understand that to rank well in google, I need frequent relevant content, but there's only so many articles that can be written on the subject.

What's the best way forward? Does it matter that the blog has articles on other areas of the niche?

I imagine a squeeze page, promoting an ebook on the topic is the best thing... but to rank I need content...

I've checked clickbank, and there's some ebooks on the topic... there's one for $35 and another for $5

Which is better, selling a cheaper or more expensive book?

I hope someone can shed some light... cheers

Well, you're being pretty obscure but I'll try to help.

If it's a micro niche you should have little trouble ranking well unless you've chosen to go up against some pretty heavy hitters. Concentrate on getting ranked for your primary keyword and expand your efforts to closely related topics. LSI is often mentioned in respect to individual articles, but it also pays in building your site.

Find a set of at least 10 closely related keywords and write about those while figuring a way of relating them back to your niche topic. Think in terms of all things related to the focus of your site and concentrate on becoming an authority on your niche topic and all the related terms.

Concentrate on giving good information initially and decide on a "hook", something short enough to be a giveaway but informative enough that people will want it. Use that as your lead in to get people to subscribe to your list. Only then should you worry about what you're going to sell them.

If you have any q's I'll try to help.

Ranking on Google is not the only way you can get traffic.

You can search for forums on your niche and help people on there and put a link to your blog in your signature or profile page. When you help those people on there, they'll look at your profile and visit your blog or squeeze page. You can also use article marketing and attract visitors. Theres tons of traffic on the internet. If your lazy like me, you can outsource this.

What you need to do now is setup an opt-in page and get leads. Use Auto-responder like Aweber. You will be able to sell over and over to these people and better to start now than later.

1)Build a blog to put content
2)Build a squeeze page and embed your autoresponder (eg aweber)
    3)Focus on collecting leads
    4)Drive traffic (forums/article marketing/squidoo/hubpages/etc)

    Hope this helps.

I'm not sure that your concern about posting fresh material, given the small niche, is valid.

As an example, I have a site ranking on the first page of google that I put up almost two years ago, and have done nothing with it. I update/put fresh content on another site a couple of times/year and it ranks between 1st and 2nd for the keyword I'm targeting.

To rank well with the search engines, take a look at your competitors for the keyword(s) you are targeting. Market Samurai is excellent for showing both the on page and off page ranking factors for the top 10 sites making it relatively "obvious" what you have to do to beat them. Fresh content is not one of the variables shown.

Don't judge ebooks by the price. Some useful information can be found for under $10 while other expensive ebooks can be all fluff.

As far as your ultra micro niche, I have a couple of micro niche sites and you want to have about 5 keywords that are related to your main keyword. I understand you did your keyword research but did you choose other related keywords to help rank higher in Google? Did you also look at your competition for the words you're trying to rank for?

Create original content using your main keyword and try to "sprinkle" the articles with your other keywords that you choose. Keep all information relative and if your readers like what you have to say, make sure to build a list. Are you trying to sell a specific product in mind since it's in the fitness niche? Let me know if you need any help, I do specialize in micro niches and keyword research. I use market samurai and can help give you points on how to rank higher than your competition. Good luck!

If it's a blog you plan to continuously update, running out of topics based on your keyword could be an issue. As suggested above, the easy fix for this is to branch out into related keywords. For best results, these should be of interest to the same target audience as your main keyword. If you're targeting hardcore bodybuilders, don't branch to tips for new moms looking to lose their baby weight (at least not on the same site).

Worst case scenario, once you get ranked and start to see some success from this site, you can start up a new income stream whenever you run out of stuff to talk about.

thanks so much for the feedback, sorry if I'm being a bit vague...

    @ Ouroboros, what's LSI?

I have 8 other related keywords, and can write about those... I reckon I could come up with 10 articles on the main key phrase, and could write about the same for related subjects.

@ YoichiSpeaks, good point with the forums, this is part of my plan. I was a very active member of a huge fitness forum, a few years back, had about 4000 posts... I was inactive for 2 years and they had a big cull... so, I'm now back to square one on that forum, bit of a shame... but can't be helped.

@ Marvin Johnston, I also used Market Samurai to find my Key phrase... unfortunately my trial period has run out... Once I get a better understanding of IM, I'll probably buy it.

Thanks for all the advice, for now, I think I should concentrate on article writing, and setting up facebook, squido pages etc...

As for my "list" I should be offering something free... like a meal plan ebook or the like... I think the best thing is to find a PLR and rejig that?
