SEO Mystery

I am trying to resolve a mystery surrounding my website. It is about 3 years old website, and has over 10,000 backlinks from all over the internet. Some coming from very powerful websites. They are real backlinks, and are not created using softwares.

Site is built in DotNetNuke.

I have a blog on my site for over a year now, and have several blogs on it with good content.

Mystery is that I get only 10-15 people a day from search engines, and I am trying figure out why. I get no traffic to my blog pages either, and I just don't understand why. Overall site gets about 500 people a day - mostly thru refering sites or direct traffic.

I don't think the website is blacklisted because otherwise I would not get any users from google (but I do).

I am looking for some expert who can tell me what's going on with it. I have couple of pages with thousands of backlinks, and have good content on those pages and I still get very very few people to those pages.

    I'm certainly no expert (although I'm far from a noob) but SEO Quake has Yahoo showing 1026 incoming links - a far cry from 10k.

    What terms are you trying to rank for?
    Do all your links point to your homepage or inner pages?
    What type of links have you built?
    Where are you in the SERPs now for those terms?

    There could be a lot of reasons, from the overall competition of the keywords to how you've actually built you links. It could also be that you lost some of your best links over that 3 years.

    Why don't you share a bit about the terms you're trying to rank for and your link structure and strategy?
    How many links do you have pointing to inner pages?
    How do you vary your anchor text?

    It certainly seems low. I know you could be losing out on repeat visitors because I have hard time initially telling what it's about from looking at and I'm probably not the only one who also wondered that.

      Also, checking some of your backlinks, I see the anchor text all over the place. I see a whole lot of "job finder" and "car finder" backlinks. I don't find you on page 1 for either (which is as far as I looked).

      Carfinder.com comes up first for that keyword. It looks like a challenging keyword but feasible.

      "Job finder" looks like you'll never rank for that. The first few sites are PR 8-6. I'd suggest ranking for some long tail keywords or at least less competitive two word terms instead and building some article pages for them. You'll want to build links specifically to those inner article pages. You'll need another 3 years and crazy backlinks for the terms you're going for.

      Like for instance, "classic car finder" looks to be a whole lot easier. Thus, that's the fun of finding a niche. You could probably redo your site as a classified car finder and make some bucks doing it.

      I think part of your problem is that the keyword research started all wrong. Market samurai has a trial with a great keyword tool. Even after the trial expires, you still lose the other features but can keep the keyword tool. I use it just for that so there's no need to pay for it. Find yourself some good keywords and target those. Otherwise, you'll spend another 10 years trying to rank for "job finder".

    Frankfihn pretty much hit it on the nail. The problem with websites that don't get traffic is that unless you're paying for some sort of advertising, how are people supposed to find you? They put in a keyword into google and unless you created your backlinks correctly and made sure your competition is low, then you're just another website out there within the millions already existing.

    Keyword research is the most important step, most people get the domain first and then build. It's always build around your targeted keyword so you get organic traffic from people searching for your words.

    Use google adwords tool or market samurai to find out the exact amount of searches done on your targeted keyword. If your keyword is only searched 300 times, that's only 10 visitors a day searching for that term and if your'e not in the top 3 spots, forget about it.

    Next find out about your competition for the 1st page of google. You're goal is to outrank them and get to the #1 spot so the traffic just flows in, unless you have tons of money you can just buy targeted traffic, but why even bother when you can do it for free.
