What is your IM Story? Here's Mine

Let me tell a short story.... please excuse my grammar....

The year was 2002 and I was 21. I was jobless and don't have my own PC. I did not know what people were doing online. I went to a cybercafe to chat with my college classmate using mRIC and was tempted to submit my resume to some cruise ship companies because they say that working in a cruise ship is a lucrative job (I got disappointed though).

While browsing for some jobs online, a "get paid to read email program" caught my attention and I followed the link. Thus I found getpaidforum.com and became an active member. I joined some GPT program and started earning cents after cents. I spent a lot in renting computers and internet and I said to my self I will buy mine someday. Another known GTP program was created and since I was a very active forum member, they offered me a forum moderation job. That program paid me a total of $200 over the course of my 9 months service. Thus, I purchased my first computer - that was 2003.

I joined Sitepoint early 2007 and another guy from Arizona was asking if how can he sell his fresh milk product online. That time, although I only had 2 blogspot blogs, I learned a little about promotion. I offered my service for free with condition that he only pay me when his website reaches first page of Google. I focused my attention creating a blogger page for him advertising his fresh milk product from Arizona and started creating backlinks through free websites like adlandpro, trafficswarm, etc... After around 2 months we saw progress and eventually reached first page of google. The guy (Mr. Williams) was very impressed after having 2 first buyers through his blogger blog. He got a contract with local fresh milk retailer and was short of supply. He sent me $200 through Western Union. I was very happy and felt motivated.

2008 - I continued working on his website, transferred it to wordpress with his own domain and still positioning to first page of Google with a very competitive keyword. His business got a breakthrough when customers from all over Tuczon asking him for supply. He expanded his ranch and hired more people to work with him. He sent me $2,000.

By then, I was thinking of creating my own seo blog and got a handsome domain (myseoblog.net). I did well promoting my blog and reached considerable amount of traffic but I was tempted to sell it to ientry (owner of webpronews) for a considerable amount. I still keep working with Mr. Wiliam's website and maintaining a good relationship (now a major dealer of fresh milk in Tuczon area).

I started dealing with Adsense and CPA but had no luck with adsense (for some reason). I sticked with CPA........... until now......

That's how I discovered what people are doing online to make money.... I'm not perfect and still learning but at least I got my spot online.......

That is a very motivating life story. Good for you for working hard and doing what you had to do to get here.

I started almost the same way, with gpt programs, paid surveys and etc. I started my first real money making blog last year and was able to get it on Google's first page for some big keywords in my niche. And now little by little my earnings from the blog is increasing.

I do some CPA, affiliate marketing and even freelancing as well, while holding 2 day time jobs. Though I have a long way to go until I can call myself an IMer or even a blogger. Hopefully one day I can make enough with my online business to be able to pay the bills and help my family, so I wont have to work 2 day job on top of working online.

One thing is for sure, if you put whats required of you into it and work hard, sooner or later you will get there.

Congrats on your success Adie. I wish you the best. Keep going!

I believe every one of us here started little and many are ended up successful. I see you have fiverr offer and I found it interesting (bookmarked it).. There's a lot of things that we can do online to make money. The only enemy is the time - and that's where outsourcing takes place.

        Hi Adie,

That's an inspiring story, it sounds like you work very hard and are determined - keep it up.

I just wanted to point out to you that your grammar is excellent - I presume English isn't your first language? It's better than a lot of native English speakers, many of whom can't spell grammar.

P.S. 'La Islas Filipinas' always makes me think of this song (link) nowadays.

Everyone helpin' each other whenever they can
We makin' it happen, from nothin' to somethin'
That's how we be survivin' back in my homeland

Thank you. I'm a Filipino and Las Islas Filipinas is Spanish for Philippine Islands

I always feel inferior in writing but that didn't stop me from making money online...

BTW, I think you are from UK. My company is sending me to France for 6-Month Technical Training and I am now learning French a little by little because our French boss keeps on telling us that we will be having difficulty there communicating with French people in English. I hope I will not be having hard times....It is also possible that I can visit UK for short time.. I'm excited..

Yeah, Apl of Black Eyed Peas is half Filipino and was born here.

            Hi Adie,

I always feel inferior in writing
Well it's time you stopped feeling that way, there's no need.

I hope I will not be having hard times
Well the more languages you learn, the easier they should get?

I've been trying to learn German for some time now - I'm not so young anymore and it seems to get harder - but I will battle on with it.

It is also possible that I can visit UK for short time
Bring some warm clothing and try to visit in summertime Oh, and buy everything you need BEFORE you get here. It's officially been renamed as rip-off-Britain.

Well I didn't know that UK is getting expensive but thakns for that tips. Everything is ready now... and the most important thing to bring is my laptop.. LOL. My IM activities will be in trouble if I don't have my own computer there.

              @Ernie

Its good that you didn't give up. I believe there's a right time for you and I wish that time is approaching. Just keep believing while doing your part.

I've been around for a long time

Back in 2003 I started getting interested in making money online and was part of the digialpoint forums. Since everyone was discussing web directories, I decided to make my own.

I got a couple of paid submission within 24hours of launching. I ended up making about $150 in 2 months but was not overly excited about it. In the end my database got corrupted which I didnt back up and I gave up on the site. I wish I'd stick with it, I bet today it would be making me a good amount .

Later on I discovered the warrior forum in 2006 and soon became addicted to reading all the amazing posts but never began my 1st squeeze page until 6-12 months later. I wanted to start when I felt ready but you can never be ready in this biz, you just gotta start something and tweak later.

I spend about 2-3 years trying to build a list through giveaways. I had several successes in terms of traffic and signups yet only got the odd sale here and there.

I trid to mold myself as a giveaway/traffic expert yet the only person I was fooling was myself. I was no expert and had no plan and didnt have a real plan with my list. I managed to get 3K subs I think but the list was almost useless in terms of making money.

I then spend 1 year and $1K or so on making and marketing a membership site, since that was as all the rage. i did a lot of work preparin interviews and design the site and made about 4 sales on launch day. It was a huge flop and after a couple of refunds I just was over it and completely over Internet Marketing!

I took a break for about 12 months and swore I would get in the make money niche again and would try a real niche site one day when i was ready.

I eventually came back to the forum and was still lost as a puppy but ended up making a couple of niche adsense blogs. After only making $1 in my 1st month and $2.50 in my 2nd month, I was ready to give that up too.

However once I made $6.50 in month 3 I was happy I nearly tripled my previous months income of $2.50 and when I made $26 in month 4 there was no stopping me! Last month I made $330 from adsense and although its not much it feels like a million dollars for me. After 7 years of failure, I've finally found a model that works for me and I aint ever giving up again!
