Definition of Insanity... (in site marketing)

So many people are doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result (a good ranking). So many claims that a bunch of junky links that nobody is ever going to click on are going to propel a site to #1 on google. It fits the definition of insanity yes?

I don't agree, i think that fits to normality, everyone want to rank higher, to earn more, to have more sales, everyone wants a better life, i think it is a normal thing

Repeating something that has failed you in the first place is a bit bonkers. :/

The only way to IM success is through hard work and quality material.

I don't think it is insanity, but simply people with not much IM knowledge, thinking anyone can just spam stuff to get some fast money.

    They are sadly mistaken!

      Hi dvduval,

There are a couple of things that you need to understand about backlinks.

People clicking on backlinks are not what make them valuable. What makes backlinks valuable is that Google uses them to determine the rankings of sites regardless of whether they are clicked on or not.

That being said, there is no such thing as a bad link, since every link will help you move up in the Search Engine results.

It is not insanity because it has been proven to work.

Devid, I have been doing this for a long time and do understand a lot about links. Often I used to be the first to spot the google pagerank update on webmaster world circa 2001, and I have a site with 10 million links and many others with thousands.

The problem is these low quality links are NOT being scored by google enough to help people to the degree they think, and often people are believing in something that will not reach the result they desire.

A site that people love enough to return to and tell their friends is the big secret. Not a bunch of spammy profile links, and blog comments on unrelated sites.

Separate yourselves by virtue of your core passions, not 'I WANT TO MAKE MONEY' but 'I'M BEST AT ________ < What do I need in order to monetize my true core talents, skills, and brain in order to pull from the market?"

When there's a gold rush, MOST people dig, frantically and desperate. SOME people, though, see an opportunity to sell shovels.

We're in a BOOOOOM right now for work online, making money online, being popular/social online, and claiming your piece of the pie online... . .. .. < You can be the 95% that dig, OR you can position yourself as an enabler, a good middle man (the true meaning of a good business man/woman), providing those 95% with great shovels, maybe with a pan as a bonus and a sturdier handle to be different from the other shovel idea jackers.. . . .

It is definitely INSANE to run in that hamster wheel blindly going on the words of someone that did it before you, and beating yourself up a month later when you realize you've learned little, accomplished little, and went broke in the process, a little more.

Par up your creative juices and figure out what you're truly best at, the rest is just like school, paying attention to outdated stale curriculum and teachers that can't make it in the real world so they teach, not practice.

      Norb.
Excellent analogy man. Really those are the word that hit me like a ton of bricks late one night. If you can't do, teach. When I first set out to become, well, a millionaire (not there yet but climbing quick) all I ever did was try to figure out how the guys who are making the millions were doing it. I figured they had to be making way more than the people they were teaching. Man was I right. When I first got a whiff of info marketing the whole thing changed for me. Find a bunch of people with a problem and offer them a solution to their problem. Or just grab a shovel and keep digging...it's kinda up to you.

It's like my mentor says, if you are expecting to run a business on complete autopilot and live the life you want...an IM business is not for you.

I think maybe people think that if they try it just one more time, it will work. This is often what is taught, to stick to something until you succeed.

I would suspect that many times, a bunch of people think they are doing something wrong, that there is something amiss with their implementation, not that there is something wrong with their entire process to start with.

Yes the famous quote by Albert Einstein, "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

I believe the meaning to this quote "doing the same thing over and over" is the part to focus on.

If you're doing the same exact thing over and over and expecting something different to happen, that would be insanity. Again according to Albert Einstein.

This might be controversial - but you can actually build an online business without having to rank on Google or even worry what Google does. Of course if you get some traffic from Google that's great - but I've seen people chasing getting a Google ranking as some kind of panacea for their business.

Getting a good ranking in Google doesn't automatically lead to more sales and more revenue - you'll also need to have a site populated with great content, that's easily navigable, and a good Opt-In process so that you can start building a relationship with potential clients via your email list.

My view is that it's much better to focus on getting quality content on your site and building your list than focusing on getting a Google ranking. Not everyone will agree - and that's OK by me - you have to pick a model that works for you and implement that in your business.
