If you use free reprint articles from article directories on your blog, won't it be penalized for havng duplicate content?

haha... that's funny... sure don't worry about it if you don't want to increase your SERP's... SEO, PR, or any type of authority figure status...

Unless you want to fight with ranking higher than all the other websites that have the same duplicate articles that are on your site, good luck with that!

Unique content is ALWAYS more valuable than duplicate content...

Just take 5 minutes of your time and at least make it somewhat unique, if you can, 're-write' the article (if their terms allow) before you post on your blog. You won't be sorry.

I actually tend to agree with Johan that duplicate content over different IP addresses doesnt seem to effect the rankings much at all and not to worry about it. This is only my observations so may be different for other people.

I think the duplicate content penalty has been greatly over hyped... There is definitely a duplicate content filter for individual sites that have multiple pages of duplicate content. Google simply dont index these pages. Ezinearticles is a good example of a site that has over hyped duplicate content penalties.

Just think, a Press Release is always the same article content submitted to all the news sites. A huge percentage of these pages are indexed and rank very well in Google. I have actually seen 8 out of the top 10 results for a longtail key phrase consist of the same article on different sites, definitely no duplicate content filter there.

I do agree that Unique content obviously has more value than duplicate content but like I said, it simply doesnt matter that much when used on different IP addresses.

That just pertains to having the same article on two or more pages in the same site.

What about trying to compete with all of the other websites out there that already have the same content/article posted at their website?

That's were the competition comes into play... if you have unique content that pertains to the duplicate content that is already saturated, you will have a better chance of ranking well within the SE's.

As I read it, the question pertained to the duplicate content penalty imposed by the SERPs therefore, the answer is valid.

I do agree that it is always better to have original content on your site but, if you do find a high quality article that addresses your target audience's interests, then there is nothing wrong with sharing that information.

As an adjunct to the above:

Let's say that we had similar sites on "Dominating The Stock Market"; Jared writes an exceptional and unique article on "following the trends", while I choose to reprint an article written by Warren Buffett

Jared uses keywords like, stock market trends, following stock trends, etc and I use "Warren Buffett stock tips" -

Now, seeing as how Buffett is considered the grand master of stock trading, who do you suppose might get the most views?

No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using high quality articles interspersed with your own unique content.

I have to agree and say that Unique content is always the best way to go. Unique content gets you more traffic, more clicks, more everything.

Using free articles is a quick way to build up your content but you should have some of your own unique content too. What you could do is post comments under each article any thoughts or extra information that you have about the subject and add a bit of uniqueness to each page.

I do use free articles on my blog, but if I do, I usually include an introduction, and a conclusion. Also, I intersperse the free articles with my own content. I never post two free articles in a row.

It's okay to use free articles as long as you mix and match with other types of content. I do use original content as well as PLR on the same site. Interestingly, on some occasion, my duplicate content can rank quite well on the search engines.

As I see it, and I know that there are those that will disagree, the main focus of your site should be to give your visitors what they want.

Give them what they want (information) and they will give you what you want (money).

By all means, write your original articles. But, do not neglect the information from other experts in the field that can give your visitors a better understanding of what you are selling.

You can also disperse PR within your site. Duplicate content may not count (the content with the most links will get listed) in terms of SE traffic...then again it may.

But every page on your site has PR. If you know how to stream the PR using appropriate anchor text and internal linking, you can boost other page's authority within your site and thus increase PR to that page.

For those of you that don't know what that is, it is aka keyword sniping and is highly effective...duplicate content or not.

You can post free reprint articles and get good results.

The main thing to be sure of is to follow your stats. Once you see which pages are getting hits for certain keywords, then add an affiliate product on that page which should convert with that keyword.

Use the same technique for original content as well.
