My 300th post gift to you: how to rank in google for free

Hey Warriors,

In honor of this little milestone, I thought I'd share a little tip. Before I changed the link in my signature the other day, it was pointing to one of my websites, and it was in anchor text like this featuring the keywords for which I try to rank.

I typed my keywords into google because I was bored, and THERE WAS MY SITE AT NUMBER 3!

This site had no backlinks yet, I hadn't pinged it. I didn't do a darn thing. All i did was post here like I was usually doing.

I'd imagine the benefit would go away after you changed your sig, but still. That's a hell of a trick.

Don't go spamming the forum now that you know.

Cheers,
Lazy

i must admit, my site shot to number 3 from number 8 after putting it as a signature link. i have changed it to another site today though, just to test if it was actually that.

Hmm, have you tested this on more than just one site?

I think it might give an initial boost but its not permanent.

I have not, nor do I plan to. I just thought it was neat.

Yes I imagine if you have 300 odd posts, which would mean 300 back links, you would rank pretty well for long tail keywords, and even reasonably competitive keywords. The cool part is I think (although I may be wrong) that even if you change your signature, not all of your previous posts will change. I think your recent ones will, but the ones you posted a few months ago will keep your old signature, which means you keep the back links. Not 100% sure about that though. Either way, Google loves the warriorforum. I will often be searching something about IM and a forum link will pop up in Google.

Yes, this works even in the Warrior Forum.

We played with the Original Content Penalty last week here in the forum to great success, ranking several target keywords to point to that page.

      Bill,

That's still going massively strong. I'm actually helping a guy with his IM endeavours at the moment. I won't name him but he knows who he is because I'm still reminding him about it.

He emailed me in the New Year panicking having found it on Google and asking me what I was doing to change all my sites over. He was genuinely panicking. I kept it going for about an hour but then he actually called me on Skype. It was at that point I just couldn't conceal my laughter.

The anchor text is very important to get ranked high in Google. I'm ranking quite well with one of my keywords (first page on a keyword with more than 10 million results) already and I will be using this also... I've actually started using it.

      Yep,

Anchor text is a fairly significant factor in SEO success.

Forum signatures, blog posts, articles, etc.

      All the same principal.
