Is this normal in affiliate programs?

Dear Warriors,

I joined Godaddy's affiliate program a few weeks ago. You can learn more about it here:
Affiliate Program | Team Up With the World's Largest Registrar

After joining the program I referred many visitors to purchase domain names and hosting plans. Godaddy affiliate has a great control panel that shows you statistics about your referrals and how much you've earned.

I knew that some people ordered using the affiliate link that I provided, but I didn't get any commission and couldn't track any money in my account.

I tried to investigate what's happening and did contact Godaddy support, and they told me that they do not pay commission when the client referred through the affiliate link uses a promo code!

Is it normal that webmasters don't get commission in other affiliate programs if a promo code or discount code is used?

I personally find it weird... but please let me know if this is common or should I switch to another affiliate program.

Thanks.

    Thanks.
You sent them traffic that converted to sales and you didn't get paid?

    Find a NEW program...

(And one that pays better too!)

They get to set the terms for their affiliate program. I bet it's in the TOS.

Is it fair or particularly cool of them to do this? No, definitely not.
In fact, it sucks that you have to send your visitors to anything else than the best deal, in order to get the commission.

But you can't do anything about it, if those are the terms.

As the poster above said, the best advice is to stop promoting them and find a better affiliate program to join.
