Experts: If you had a chance to start over what would you do?

IF you could start it all over what would you do?
If you could go back to your younger internet self what would you say?

I would have told myself to stop focusing on one site instead of repeating a good process.

As for what system I would work at, I would build amazon sites. Ton loads of 'em

EDIT: Just for the record, I don't consider myself an expert

I will focus on one strategy at a time instead of signing up for all the 'gurus' newsletter. They are too much of a distraction from ones goal.

To keep my credit card as far away from my computer as physically possible.

Seriously, trying to "buy" all the pieces to the puzzle can get very expensive. Education is priceless, but that doesn't mean it needs to be expensive.

Once I found the WF that helped out quite a bit...

I wish I had found the War Room in 1998 when my site first went up. I would have bought my webdesigner a subscription to the thing so he would have had a better understanding of what makes a good website from a marketing standpoint.

I did pay over $7,000 back then for some of the finest spinning monkeys you could put on a website. So I got that goin' for me...

LOL right there with you Bill except it was more of a $23,000 lesson across the web and several campaigns, and other life lessons.

The funny part is that "GURUs" break up the solutions like drug dealers do crack from keys LOL

I am not an expert but I do have some hindsight.

    1. Examine my personal knowledge base and skill sets in my favorite hobbies/interests/profession
    2. Choose one that I would not get tired of easily
    3. Write a book about the topic that no one else would be able to write - unique because of your experiences, knowledge, viewpoint, etc.
    4. After the book is done, do keyword research for terms searchers will use when they are looking for the book you have already written.
    5. Take that huge list of keywords and buy an exact match dot com domain for the keyword with the largest number of searches.
    6. Pay somebody to make a pretty cover for the book.
    7. Pay somebody or write my own sales page for the book.
    8. Put the sales page on the website.
    9. Get an e-junkie account and create a buy it now button for the ebook so it can be delivered on instant download.
    10. Add the buy button to the website.
    11. Start linkbuildng with articles.
    12. Bookmarking submissions
    13. Directory submissions
    14. Any other kind of link building properties like squidoo lens and hub pages.
    15. Keep link building for this ebook website until you are in the profit zone, including having the site pay for the ejunkie subscription, the site's own hosting, the site's own registration, and every tool or product you bought to get the above steps done.
    16. When you are in the profit zone, take about half of your profits and hire a virtual assistant to assist in the linkbuilding. Take your time finding and training your virtual assistant so they stick with you. Be kind, generous, patient, and give this your full attention.
    17. Keep working at step 16 until the virtual assistant is self-reliant and the trust level is high enough that you feel comfortable.
    18. If appropriate, once you have enoug sales to warrant it, add an affiliate program for your ebook. Because your product is already selling, your product's affiliate program success is quite good.
    19. You have been list building through product sales. You could further build out your list with a sign up form for a free newsletter, for example, but only if the newsletter is not going to give out the same information contained in your ebook. There are other ways to capture site visitor information - search here at WF.
    20. Stay focused on one topic until you are in the profit zone and your VA is independent...then move on to the next topic. Go back to step two and pick another topic from your list, and rinse and repeat.

Come to this forum only when you need to ask assistance to move you further along the steps, or to hire a warrior to provide a service you need. Only buy a WSOs when you have a specific need and find a WSO that perfectly matches that need.

When you are ready to hire the virtual assistant, then you are ready to use your knowledge and experience to help other warriors, and so once a day, for a break, come to the WF and help a newbie.

After too many months of trying the next 'new, amazing system to make money online in your sleep without really trying' type products, I am finally following my own advice and working my way down this list. My income is increasing monthly.

    Good luck to you!

I would have created sites within my 2 or 3 favorite subjects and built content consistently, created a forum within them to create a community, and kept telling the world about it....

Now take in the fact I'm an old fart of 51, whose first "money making project" online was putting pictures of girls in bikinis on a Geocities website back in the day when you were paid per IMPRESSIONS. It was COOL!!! I think I was around 25 at the time. Imagine how big of sites I would have today (not bikinis) if I had kept busy for the last 26 years creating content and fostering a community.

Don't wait, move fast, keep moving, this is gonna rock.... (of course, that applies today, too)

Considering I am NOT an expert and I started in late 04...

I'd go back and develop a Portugal holidays website and stick with it. Been doing so many different things all these years... I reckon I should have focused on ONE big project.

Edit: Thats what I do now. All efforts to ONE big project.

With perfect hindsight, I would do two things differently...

I'd focus on one (or maybe a few closely related) projects with mass appeal.

I'd make sure they didn't depend on me. Even if my name was on the sign, the function and appeal of the site would not depend on my personal involvement.

If you look at the Internet projects that made their creators billionaires, those two traits are common to all of them.

I wouldn't do anything differently, besides working a little harder.

I have a feeling I'm going to look back in 20 years and realize I could've made WAY more money online.

I would go back and build a list from the start and treat it right from the get go!

I'll admit I wasn't the best list owner in the world when I first started I just wanted
the sale! As time went on this hurt me, and found out the hard way you need to treat
your list with care which is what I've been doing for the pass few years.

So anyone starting out build a list and take care of it!

Start in my niche a little sooner. I was a jack of all trades my first year.

The real money came in when I began going deep in my niche for 2+ years (coming up on 4 years now).

Focus focus focus. I'm talking razor-sharp focus here. Stick with one method of internet marketing, write down what steps you are going to do for each day to build your business and then only do that. Stay off facebook, this forum etc. unless you have booked in 30min a day to browse (I do every day). Stick to the plan and you will see results.

I've always wanted to go back in time with a sports almanac and make fortunes on gambling.

But in all seriousness, I would have told myself to learn SEO first, instead of trying to master PPC at the outset. Wasted a good year and a number of dollars I will not post on adwords.

If you had a chance to start over what would you do?

I would not start anything and stay my butt in the fields plowing my harvest and drinking beer. I'd be watching bikini babes on the beach all day and wonder where their father is at. Hang around at a 7-11 store waiting for a drunken guy so I can yell at him. lol.

On a serious note, I'd buy those premium one-two word domain names and invest in gold.
