How hard is to setup a membership for Joomla and Wordpress ?

Hello all,

We have a website dedicated for Joomla, Wordpress templates. atemplatefree dot com - sorry can't post the link due to not enough posts.

I would like to setup a membership for this website, also to implement a clickbank , paypal payment.

How hard is to do this ? Can someone give me a good boost to start ?

I am listening even if you have ideas about how can I start making money from this website ?

Thank you so much in advance .
Mike

Wordpress is pretty easy if you use a paid plugin made by wishlist.

It all depends on what you want to do with the members and what you want to give access, restrict access, ect on what solution you will need.

But the wishlist plugin should handle whatever you want.

    Pretty easy in Wordpress.

You can do it a few ways. Add passwords to your content. Add a membership program like mentioned above but I prefer this one with affiliate managment

Integrated eCommerce Affiliate and Membership for Wordpress | The Internet Marketers Club

You can also make the whole wrodpress site private or use the wordpress system and make them register.

This is just to name a few but there are more ways.

Joomla is sketch in my opinion and quite vulnerable to hackers if you aren't a security expert.

Joomla alone powers over 2.6% of the entire web! That's a lot of sites! If your opinion was accurate, Joomla would not hold such a huge market share.

Joomla security is not an issue. No one needs to be a security expert. When security flaws are found, they are immediately patched and an update is available, just like WordPress. It is extremely secure...major corporations like Citibank and MTV use it, and also schools like Harvard University. Lots of government agencies use it, like cities, counties, states and police departments--even the United Nations uses it.

Joomla is a highly sophisticated CMS, but extremely easy to use.

Joomla 1.6 was just released (1/10/11) and it is another quantum leap ahead in Content Management Systems.

        Agree !

Joomla it is pretty secure and really you don't need to be an expert to have a secure website. This is a Joomla job anyway.

Maintaining is fun , once you start using Joomla CMS for a while and , personal I love it.

So far I will stay focus on Joomla CMS .

The only thing I will need to implement the membership now ... it's in progress ... actually I am getting educated right now ...

        thanks.

All I know is that hackers tore up multiple sites of mine on Joomla, and it was such a nightmare we had to switch. We spent over a full week just trying to deal with the issues. Quite a few other people I know suffered the same problem as I when researching the infections and viruses.

I don't doubt it's a highly sophisticated CMS, but saying extremely easy to use is simply a opinion. I found it frustrating and very hard myself, and I'm not the only one. I was utterly lost in Joomla.

But I'm just a salesman. Not a techie.

I've heard the same stories from people who use WordPress.

It is difficult to make universal statements about a product based on your personal experience. There could have been other security factors related to hosting or other issues, not just the CMS you used. Maniac hackers even break into U.S. Military sites.

In my experience, I have been involved with many, many hundreds of Joomla sites, both for myself and clients, and I've never had any security issues. Not one. So my view is different. Plus, I know that 2.6% of all the sites on the web are Joomla sites, and that would not happen if there were endemic security issues.

WordPress is good for lightweight duty like many in IM need. The Joomla CMS is the next step up, and it is extremely secure even though some people have had some problems, as happens with all products. Joomla is far more flexible and hearty than WordPress, although WordPress is making rapid gains.

Is there any reason why you want to offer both CB and paypal options? Your potential CB affiliates probably won't like that to be honest.

I currently use wordpress and wishlist for the member's area strictly, and have 2 sister sites with different domains (html) for sales pages. One is paypal (direct cash), the other is for CB (affiliates).

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Mike

It is also very easy to do in Joomla. All Joomla templates have a login panel and an option to create an account. You'll usually see that somewhere near the top of the page or down the left hand side. When somebody clicks the option to 'Create an Account' Joomla does all the work in the background. It asks them to choose a username, give their email address and choose a password; then it sets them up on the database.

It usually sends an activation email. It's really all done for you.

All you have to do then is set those pages that should be accessible only by members - as an access level of 'registered'. You do that in the administration area. Any pages that should be visible to everyone have an access level of 'Public', which is the default.

    Hope that helps.

    Good Luck.

Aha! I see your issue now.

There are several Joomla extensions that you can install to do this. Go to Paid Membership & Subscriptions - Joomla! Extensions Directory to see what's on offer.

I think maybe IPN Sub / Paypal Subscriptions Pro / or JContent subscription would do the trick. Ranging from free to $40.

I have some experience of AEC (Account Expiration Control) which is good, but probably too complex for your needs.

        Hope that helps

Surely that's the beauty of Joomla, just grab an extension and plug it in. The description for JE Membership Subscription says ... "JE Membership extends the Joomla User Registration Management System to the next level. With adding the payment methods into our JE Membership component ... "

Or Easy Subscription says "Easy Subscription is very easy to use. Just 5 minutes, you can build a professional content subscription system. Not any computer programming skills are needed. Easy Subscription integrates PayPal and uses PayPal IPN to validate user's subscription. It is very secure." With EasySubscription, you can even try a demo version.

            Mike,

I think by it's nature, adding payment systems are not super simple. Especially when they have to integrate with other database information. That's why I recommend using a plugin, where a clever programmer, has already worked out how to do all that integrating and linking up.

            Cheers

And by the way . The backup is always necessary and available for everybody to do it.

Nobody is fully protected, we can't stop hackers to stop by our website, but we can stop them to create disasters at least.

    For WP, s2Member (free).

For Joomla, Open Source MSC (free).

There are a variety of paid member modules, but I think these are the best free ones.
The only thing that the "For Joomla, Open Source MSC (free)." is not quite free , unfortunately

Yes it's not free....now it costs 79 pounds per year....they raise the price !

A couple of months ago I bought it for 57 pounds one time fee !

It's a very comprehensive software (component) and I'm very satisfied....

but it took me some time to set it up !
