Sorry if this has already been discussed but I searched for quite some time. Are there any plugins or searches that are either free or inexpensive that help you build your own social network on a wordpress blog?

    BuddyPress is the most anticipated Wordpress social networking plugin. However, the beta release is set to open on December 15th.

    Besides any wordpress extensions, the best CMS I've seen to work is Drupal.

      Yeah, I can't wait for the release of buddypress. I'm excited about the idea of using wordpress as a social bookmarking site.

    I have created and sold a number of sites using Dolphin - it's a really full featured OS platform, and the last release really offers more flexibility than anything else I have used, and at this point - I have used most everything on the market - both paid and OS.

    I like Dolphin because of the ability to add RSS feeds for content, and the ease of monetizing and customizing the script.

      I love KickApps.com .
      To go further on your question... you can Host your own social network or used a hosted version like kickapps or ning.

      It has pros and cons, but I like to take the headache out of video streaming and fixing all the breaks by using hosted solutions like Kickapps, especially if you are going to have lots of members.

      Dolphin is cool. but when i installed it last year, they reserved a few of the cool "must have" modules for commercial purchase. So right off the bat you would have to spend Cash.
