The best way to back up a wordpress blog website

Hi,

I'm just wondering whats the best way to back up a wordpress blog website as I had one hacked a few weeks ago and had NO back ups

The way I'm doing it at the moment is by logging into cPanel each evening, going to 'Back ups', and then downloading:

- Download a Home Directory Backup
- Download a MySQL Database Backup

I assume that is all I need?

Is there a better way to do this, and is it each to put the site back up with those 2 downloaded files if anything bad was to happen.

There's a plugin called "wordpress database backup" that seems to work pretty well.
Also Hostgator told me they back up all my sites once a week automatically. I also download ever so often just to be sure from my host. (home directory backup)

This is exactly what I do. I use the database backup plugin (I've got it set to backup twice daily), and a couple times per week I download the files with Filezilla.

I imagine it's this one: WordPress › WP-DB-Backup WordPress Plugins

So that backs up the WP database on the server? What if your server is hacked.. ideally it would better if it was e-mailed to a GMAIL account and then filtered into a storage folder.. must be something out there ?

That's the one. I have it emailed to an address on a different server, but gmail would work well too.

How do you set up the email feature? Is it apart of the WP plugin's options?

Yes, you set it up in the plugin's options. Install it and check it out. It takes like 2 minutes to install, if that.

Well, I had a similar question and I thought it better to ask here.

I have a few sites, where I use scripts where mysql databases were created and all that.
Now, is there a way for me to backup the files, so that when the time comes to use the backup, I wont have to install the scripts again or create the mysql databases again?

Could I do that? I hope I was able to make my question clear.

    bye,

So you basically want a FULL back up but automated?

BTW. Cheers Jeff, thanks for the info! Got it installed in under 10 minutes - now have my Wordpress data sent automatically to my Gmail account and automatically filtered into a folder every day. It's out of the way and there if I need it! Thank you.

    RC,

It is a good thing that you are thinking of finally backing up your data with the WordPress
    plug-in.

I had to learn the lesson the hard way. I don't know what is worse, but I had accidentally deleted a folder that contain only information. I lost six months worth of information and articles that I wrote. That was when I was new with WordPress and I didn't know what I was doing.

Yes, I want the full backup.
But I am not talking about a wordpress site.
I have a simple html site, but it has some scripts installed.
So, how do I do the backup, so that the installations and data are not lost when I need to use it again.

I just got this plugin and it was a snap to upload and set up. One question. In the set up area there are two boxes that can be checked. Should I check them or leave them as they are? I am not sure what they are. Thanks Glenn

They usually relate to any additional plugins you've downloaded and installed.
