Which IM Products or Books Most Influenced Your Business?
To me...I have about 5 books/IM product that clicked with me and changed the way I thought about my business.
1) Rich Dad/Poor Dad---Say what you want about him, it was the first time I really thought about the possibility of owning a business. This was about 3 years prior to IM, but it set the stage for a desire to figure out a way to figure out a way to leverage my skills in order to create more passive income.
2) E-Myth Revisited---At first, I didn't really care for this book. But as time went on, I developed a deeper appreciation for it. All about systematizing your business and building it as if you're going to hand it off to a franchisee to run.
3) The Goal--Loved this book and it changed my thinking in a big way. At the time I read this book, I was letting relatively small things hold up the progress of my business. Some of it were things I was doing myself, instead of outsourcing. Other things were a little harder to identify. It's all about looking at your process and finding the "constraint" that's holding you back from achieving your goal.
4) Stompernet--It's the only IM product I have on here. I joined back in 2006 and while the SEO stuff was great. It was the first time I really seriously thought about conversion. I was only in my 2nd year of IM and, up until that point, only cared about improving traffic. I had an e-commerce site with about a 1% conversion and it led to a 4 year journey of testing that led to a 2010 conversion rate of 5% on the same site.
5) 4 Hour Work Week--Most have read this book. To me, even though I had heard of a lot of the concepts, it changed the way I looked at things. Paretto's Principle (80/20), Parkinson's Law (Expanding work to fit time allotted), and the Law of Diminishing Returns.
Special Mention: I don't remember the product, but it was an interview with Dan Kennedy and Corey Rudl. Dan was talking about the importance of building a business that had EQUITY and INCOME. He said most people focus on income, how much money they make. But that everyone should be spending time, each day, to add equity to the business. Email opt-ins? Affiliate sign-ups? New Products? Profitable Traffic Sources?
