How Should I Protect the Download Page and my eBook?

Hi,

How do I go about protecting the download page? From my research here is what I have found

1. Include no index, no archive meta tags in the page
2. Give a random name to the page that cannot be guessed
3. Change the download page frequently
Any other tips?

Coming to eBook protection

1. How do I protect my ebook against illegal sharing?

I see that e-junkie has a digital stamping mechanism... But if I use clickbank, I cant have that.

Do you think I should use any paid scripts for this?

I am planning to build my landing page using wordpress.... Is there any free plugins available?

Thanks

Require a username and password to access the website or to initialize the download. Google to find out how to add a username/password to your page - then distribute usernames/passwords to your buyers.

      Hi,

Thats easy to set up a password for the page.... But is it possible to automatically deliver the password to the email address of the buyer once he/she signs up?

Manually sending it will take lot of time (depending on time zones, free time etc )and may frustrate my buyer

I assume you are already sending the user an email of some sort to confirm that they signed up - you can include the username and password in that e-mail. This is particularly easy if you are just using one blanket username/password instead of assigning a different one to each user, which is unnecessary in my opinion for your case.

I will be using clickbank and will redirect the user to the download page once the payment is completed. Can we customize the email sent by clickbank on behalf of teh order to include the password as well?

Buy DLGuard. It automates the payment/download process and creates expiring links after payment for each product and you can use it on as many products as you want. Don't know what I would do without it.
I am not sure if I want to pay 147$ for this one.... I am planning to use clickbank and e-junkie together. But for that to happen, my product must already be approved.

Password protecting your ebook(pdf) is great too but will be mundane for readers to always type the password.
Does clickbank provide pdf stamping or any such mechanisms?

If you use e-junkie to deliver the book, give one occurrence for download and let them download the ebook from e-junkie. If they are going to download the book from your site, still use e-junkie. When they pay for the ebook, have them receive instructions on how to go to the protected page on your site for the download and what password to use. Just create a simple text file with instructions and thank them again for buying.

people will find a way to download anything, but if you must I also suggest DLGuard. Password protecting your ebook(pdf) is great too but will be mundane for readers to always type the password.

friend let me share few facts, its hardly to protect your content 100%
even if you implement any of suggestion given above or you find somewhere else, but the point is , how you will protect your content from your actual users and buyers, in case one of them decide to leak those contents?

once someone decide to piracy your product online or offline then it will take really little time to copied them , now this case you have 2 options
    1. fight legally or informally way
    2. dont waste your time and move on or focus on something which brings you more profit rather wasting your time to those people

you took any of path but both case you are losing money as your product is distributed free or low price. my point or i can say suggestion is

shift your focus from protecting to profit making.

How you can do it, instead of focusing on protection part, align your stuff so deep so people come back to you, doesnt matter where they got the product, turn your every product as a magnet which brings things closer for you.

for example if you are writing a book, align your contact details inside the contact, or align your own website link so people should come back to your website to take further actions.

are you getting my points ?

no need to follow my advice just see your product with this view and you will be able to align your content accordingly ...after that you would be happy from the people who are stilling your product but they are working like a free sales people for you who is bringing traffic for your back end
    products..

    Hope this information help you.

    Hi Remsleep,

I'd recommend taking the 3 steps you mentioned but I wouldn't go to any more lengths...

... if you make it too hard for your buyers to access the content, they're going to be much less likely to buy from you again. And that's going to hurt your bottom line.

Buyers are not going to freely give away your stuff. They paid for it with their hard earned money. Yes, they might share it with a friend or two, but they are mostly going to recommend it to others rather that just give it to them.

If your content is that good that people are passing it around to everyone they know, that's only going to help your branding, and ultimately bring you in more sales.

I just recently started uploading all of my downloadables to Google Drive. From there, i am able to activate a "Restrict Downloading" options, so that no one can download my pdf's, unless i give them permission.

If you wanted to you could also add a 'squeeze page' right inside your ebook.

So that if someone downloads your ebook, they won't be able to read it, until they first give you their name and email (or just email.)

Then when they optin, the eBook will automatically open for them to read.

Of course that does not prevent theft of your ebook, but it does mean anyone who tries to open your ebook will have to first optin to read it.

And it's impossible for anyone to remove or block that 'squeeze page' function inside your ebook

      Food for thought.

      I'm still confused about this.

So you're saying if I create an ebook - once I launch it and send it to the buyer (or allow the buyer to download it), there is no technology to protect my product if they decide to say, send it out to 1000 of their friends?

Is there no tracking, locking mechanism/software that allows ebooks to only be downloaded and opened with the registered machine?

If not, I'm surprised how people make large amounts, I guess it's a pump and dump, where once it's released, the profitability timeline is only a week or two after before people start distributing freely.

    Simple... forget about all that.

If you are already building a list, then use your autoresponder to deliver the eBook after they purchase, by emailing them their download link...

    1.) They "BUY NOW"
2.) After purchase - Redirect them to a standard "Thank You" page url...

    Example:

    A.) yourwebsite.com/Thank-You-18673527ebook (be creative)

    Page will say:

    Thank-You for Your Purchase...
Enter Your Email Below for Secure Download Access:

    {web form here}

B.) Now, you can segregate your prospect list(s) from your buyer list(s) and "IF" you can(?) add a OTO either on the Thank-You Page or in the delivery email that your autoresponder will send out, containing another coded web page from which they can download or access the content.

C.) This happens (almost) immediately after they enter their email and hit submit on your Thank-You landing page...provided you use a good autoresponder like GetResponse or AWeber for example.

D.) Now, if you're doing a membership style-delivery, then you would have the download page, and their login info in your 1st follow-up email messages to be sent (immediately after they confirm) and secure their purchase, register the product, etc...

F.) I went and spent a ton of money on a membership plugin, and now, I am putting together a complete monthly membership delivered exclusively using an autoresponder... much easier! (*Especially, if it's video training or digital information type of products, like eBooks, PDF's, or even MP4's or webinar links)

Tired tonight, so I hope that makes sense...

Good Luck, and All the Best,

    Art

PS - No there really isn't a way to police your eBook, other than Copyscape or a similar software, whereby YOU CAN check to see if illegal copies eeked out...but WHY waste your time?

It's like saying, nobody can re-write Napoleon Hill's works... Yet 100's of people took advantage of 'public domain' and pre-copyright days, and put their names on the cover to spin-off new products from his work.

If I were you, I'd focus on quality writing... screw the worrying about theives, just write, and if they do happen to like your work enough to steal it, make sure you have links in the eBook pointing back to your main product page and let them market it for you, lol.

PSS - I don't buy products often, but over the last couple of days, I bought 3 things that would help nuture and grow my business plan, and benefit my 'future' audience. In short, one product was $37, but I received a sh!t-ton of bonus materials (eBooks, training videos, graphics, social media WP Plugins, all of which are fairly current, and valuable) - My point is this, your eBook being stolen is NOT what you need to be worried about. You need to deliver value, and if a few theives grab a copy - big deal... the majority of us are still honest... I think, lol.

PSSS - YouTube has 100's of videos that basically show people "How to Get _____ 100% FREE!" - so, again, I think you needant worry so much about a book.

PSSSS - Or you could sell a book with invisble ink, with only the pictures in tact, and have each picture containing a chapter linked to another web page...whereby, they would have to steal your images to be able to access your written content, and your images are actually easier to protect... Plus, it could be interactive, whereby, they get to choose the the path they follow... (ok, now I'm being stupid, lol.)

    Goodnight!

You really have to choose what you dislike the least. There is no perfect answer for protecting an ebook.

    1. Whenever you issue a password, it's going to mean support emails and phone calls for you. Just no way around that so expect it.

    2. Temporary access breeds more support emails after a couple of weeks and hate posts when you try to enforce it.

    3. When you add a link to the thank you page to download the ebook, well, depending on what system you use, my 10yo daughter can read view-source to find the location of the thank you page and most people don't even know how to hide their wordpress-driven thank you pages from raw search.

Best answer of ebooks I've sold is to HOPE a thousand people buy it....and pass it around to another 10,000 people for free. Why? Because of all the offers and upsells I would embed in the ebook of course. You could find yourself making more money on your additional offers than you would on the low end ebook sales.
