Video Player Problem? Or Encoding Problem?

Does anyone have a recommendation for using a video player that is easy to use, generates an embed code that I can copy and paste into Kajabi and WordPress blogs and can handle larger HD files?

I have been trying for a week to get Easy Video Player 2 working for me, and I am not having much success. What I get is either no video loading at all (a plain black preview box), or a constant spinning wheel, indicating that the video is trying to load, but never does finish. It's an impossibly long wait time. I'm non technical, but trying everything I can. I'm working with EVP's tech support, but they are pretty overloaded and have time zone issues with the US. It's taking them forever to figure out what's going on.

I'm not sure if the problem lies in the video player, the way my video was encoded, or the fact that the metadata in the mpg4 file may be at the end of the file, rather than the beginning.

We edited the videos on iMovie on a Mac, exported to a .mov file, then encoded/transcoded into mpg4 (web optimized) using H.264 codec with HandBrake. Handbrake was suggested by TechSupport at EVP.

We are using Amazon S3 to host the video files; uploading with S3Fox Organizer, and using the EasyVideoPlayer hosted option (rather than self-hosting the EVP files at my hosting company).

I tried the Mpg4 FastStart application, but when I tested the video on EVP, for a fraction of a second, I saw the wheel spinning like the video was loading, then, it defaulted to an error message and the video won't play or load.

Are there any video experts out there who can diagnose the problem and suggest ways to fix it? Thanks!

Sue

Thanks, Matt. Actually Will did help me out with this on another thread (Video Loading Sloooowly), but I discovered today that the problem was actually NOT an encoding or player problem.

The problem was, I named my files wrong, according to Amazon S3 bucket and file naming protocol! That's why the videos weren't playing.

I had an ampersand (&) in my video file name, which is "verboten" according to Amazon. You also cannot have any spaces in your file name or any other fancy characters.

I also used an underscore (_) in naming my bucket (aka, folder), which is also forbidden. You can only use lower case letters, numbers and hyphens.

      Who knew? Seems so easy!

So if anyone is having a similar problem with videos not loading properly or at all on their video players, before you start re-encoding video files and re-uploading to Amazon and re-installing files, first check to make sure you've named your buckets and files on Amazon S3 properly!

If you need to re-name your files or buckets, go directly to your Amazon S3 dashboard to re-name. I tried to do it first through S3 Fox, but I couldn't rename the files there.

Right click on the file or bucket name to rename and click the checkmark beside the filename to save.
