How To Build A List Using Forum Marketing

You first of all need to find forums in your chosen niche. You can do this by simply going to Google and type "[your niche keyword] forum, message or discussion board".

Make sure you check out the terms and policies of the 'popular' forums you find before you do anything else. Some forums do not allow 'signature links'. These forums are not much use, as we only want forums that encourage 'signature links'.

You then sign up for an account at these forums that allow 'signature links' as soon as you can. The aim here is to 'age' your account as most forum users respond positively to people who have been members of a forum for a while.

Spend some time 'hanging' around the forum. Do not post anything yet, just look around, see what the most popular topics are, what are people talking about, what do people need help with etc.

Once you have a 'feel' for a particular forum, you can start posting useful content, helping other users, and actively contributing to the forum. When you've done this for about a week or so, and built up some good posts, other forum members will start to see you as an 'expert' in your niche.

You can now put your 'signature link' after your posts. By this time you have built up a reputation on the forum and other users 'trust' you.
You can link your signature to your squeeze page, give the reader a good reason to want to click on your signature link.

Always try to help people, if you are seen as genuine, you will reap the rewards

Do you rely mainly on forum marketing to get your leads? Do you use article marketing at all?

Not sure if you are serious when you used the word 'exploit.' Trust and credibility are the two things you need to establish with your list in order to successfully sell to them. If you 'exploit' that trust, people will find out - and unsubscribe.

I'd perhaps rephrase to: join, earn trust, earn credibility, convert subscribers to clients.

One reason to treat your list like this is that they are not numbers, they are people and human nature means that someone who has bought from you once is much more likely to buy from you again than someone who has not bought from you (I think the quoted stats are 8-10 times more likely).

Therefore it is actually in YOUR interests - as well as your clients - to develop a relationship with them, look after them, give them quality information and products, etc etc etc.

In my opinion trust is really a non-issue when it comes to "list building." I just want your damn email address and you want whatever it is I'm giving you in exchange for that email address. There is very little trust needed for this to take place.

For example one of my lists has to do with high heel shoes. I found every forum that I possibly could and started posting. Didn't wait more than a few days to put an advertisement in my sig line advertising my "High Heels On Sale Now" newsletter.

They wanted to know what high heels were on sale and where and I needed their email address to keep emailing them. No trust was required for this to take place. To this day I've never actually sold anything to this list. Not a single one of them has ever directly given me cash. I've just promoted affiliate links as the "best sale of the week!"

In instances like this there is very little trust factor in my opinion. If you offer a hungry kid a cookie is he going to take it--or think about whether or not he trusts you first?

How long would you suggest this reports should be. I am busy creating different reports on IM but they are short (about 5-10 pages)

Would it be FREE to give them away at the forum?

I think you should add your sig link immediately if you're entering a niche that you're knowledgeable about. It really depends on whether you're familiar with the niche or not. If you are and you can post helpful/valuable responses, I see no reason why you shouldn't start posting immediately.

When offering something free, you don't have to have a WSO to do it! I had a free report I gave away with a link... worked for me!
