Wordpress Plug-ins Question

i have a blog set up where i added a number of plug-ins. but i realized last night they may not be fully set up.

what i did was i searched for a plug-in on wordpress, installed them and activated it, then fixed the settings. however i didn't download the zip file to my computer, unzip them and upload to my host server via FileZilla. i didn't realize that was part of the steps.

if i don't upload them to my host server they won't operate correctly, right?

although it's frustrating realizing i'm missing steps, it's refreshing because i'd rather figure it out now than months down the road when i could've been making money

    The new version of WP can do that for you if your installing/activing within wp-admin.

    If you did it on on the plugins page in wp-admin and it said it was installed/activated, then your good.

    You have to upload the files on your server with a FTP such as filezilla.

    On the one hand you say you installed them, and activated it + fixed the settings,

    then you say you didnt download them, didnt unzip them and didn't upload them?

    You either did one or the other?

    But the latest version of wordpress makes installing plugins easier. Somebody else can give more details on this.

      i did a wordpress plug-in search within wordpress. i installed it, activated it and adjusted the settings but i never went to site downloaded the zip file, unzipped it and added it to my ftp server FileZilla.

        You should be fine. If you searched from the Plug-ins section within wordpress, installed and activated, then you did it correctly. They are making it more user friendly so you don't have to worry about using an FTP client anymore. You'll get an error message in the plugin screen if it didn't install correctly.

        You were signed in to your wordpress site, wp-admin/plugin-install.php

        You searched for a plugin and installed it from within wordpress... you are good!

    Sounds like you are good to go. If the plug no longer says Activate, it's active. To click on it again would Deactivate it. You can by pass all of that uploading to the server with a FTP client by using the wordpress plug in install feature. This is so much easier for me to use.

    Actually, those are 2 [two] different methods for installing plugins (or themes).

    #2 was the original and only method for a while... and people who like doing stuff manually, still use it.

    #1 was introduced by WP developers to help the web-illiterate people
