Do Amazon Sites Even Work With Such Low Percentages?

Hi,

im thinking about building an amazon product review site. The only problem is they pay out like only 6 percent! So that means if im promoting say a $50 product I only get 3 bucks for the sale? It just seems like clickbank is easier because they pay more.

But I know I could sale higher commission products that sale for say $300 each and make $18 a sale. But that just seems so low

    Hey -

Not sure if you saw this but there's a pretty big thread discussing this and what others are doing.

Since my post count is nonexistent I can't post the link to the thread. However it is titled Amazon Affiliates - Are You Seriously Making Money? Hope this helps.

With the right setup, amazon works.

I read someplace that in 2009 Amazon paid 3x more commissions to assoicates than Clickbank had in total revenue. I'm not sure where the numbers came from, and haven't been able to verify with a quick spot-check, but some research online should come up with accurate numbers.

So my take on it is with Amazon, you're going after a smaller piece of a bigger pie.

My strategy is to combine offers, though it's not working out quite the way I hope. Yet - still experimenting.

Amazon are great at converting visitors when they click. Also, when you send someone to Amazon, you get commission on everything they buy. Amazon offer bundles etc.

For example, everytime somebody buys a $100 item through my website, they tend to spend at least $120 buying other equipment they need as well. If you can drive enough traffic to Amazon, you can make a lot of money.

People will always need physical products. As mentioned already, Amazon converts incredibly well - my sites averaged more than 10% the last quarter of 2010. So it's worth giving it a go
Also, the more you sell the more commission percentage you get.

Amazon sites work great for me. They convert really well since amazon has a huge trust factor. I tend to sell quite a lot of products I'm not targeting as well because people shop around amazon and add more products to their carts.

The commissions increase with the more products you sell. And even though the commissions may seem low, the conversions make up for that.
