Crap website...and I'm still getting visitors!

Last month I started putting a WP affiliate site together. It consists of a "pretty good" home page and a half dozen other pages that are empty shells. I threw a couple Amazon links in just for practice and that's about it. So, along comes life and the holidays and inertia. I do nothing with it until I go to my cpanel and find that I had 114 visitors last month, 27 so far this month and 4 today.

I know this is nothing to write home about but I'm really blown away that anyone actually found the site since it shows up on none of the search engines and has almost no content. Are these likely to be real human visitors or some kind of bot and how would I tell?

do you have analytics installed so you can find this out? also what is the niche? you might have stumbled across some obscure, cult niche that gets a few longtail hits!

There are a ton of bots and spiders that get recorded, so it may be that. Definitely set up Google Analytics, it's pretty good at filtering out the spiders and bots.

any other way to do analytics that doesn't involve html code? that stuff creeps me out.

The HTML code is very easy - you just copy and paste their code into your site. Simple as that.

And I think your hits are probably mostly bots.. this is where unexpected hits tend to come from.
