Ted Williams the golden voice guy is on the Dr. Phil show on my TV right now, they showed the flip phone guy's story.

One guys life enriched in more than financial terms by viral video

    ----

Immediately following Dr. Phil, the news reported that Ted & his daughter were briefly arrested after an argument concerning money, following a Dr. Phil taping.

What's amazing is that his voice has remained in such good quality despite his years of homelessness and drugs and alcohol - I personally know singers who've lost substantial parts of their range due to over drinking and too much columbian marching powder.

If you're interested in video, do go and follow that link and see the deconstruction. It's excellent.

Thanks for sharing this blog - I love how Steve deconstructs so many elements in the video and explains what they accomplish.

While he may have abused drugs and alcohol in the past, remember that he has been sober and clean for over 2 years, and this is probably why he has such a stellar, resonant voice right now.

He is such an inspiration to me. I only wish him the best of success and I hope now that he has some money coming in he won't spend it on drugs and alcohol. I hope he's fought his demons and realized that that's not the path he wants to take again.

    I'm so happy for him!

He's been sober and clean for over 2 years now, and given what he has gone through in the past, I'm very hopeful he won't repeat his past mistakes. He seems too level-headed now to repeat these mistakes from the past.

Homeless 'golden voice' web star arrested in LA

January 12, 2011 - 2:13PMA homeless man who amazing his astonishing baritone radio voice was arrested in Los Angeles after an altercation with his daughter, police and reports said.

Ted Williams, who had struggled with drugs and alcohol, became an overnight celebrity when a video clip of his voice skills filmed while he was on the side of an Ohio highway was posted on the Internet last week by the Columbus Dispatch newspaper.

He was flooded with job offers and brought to Hollywood - where he was arrested after officers were called to a disturbance at his hotel Monday night, and taken to a local police station, according to LA Police Department (LAPD).

The LA Times newspaper quoted sources as saying there had been an altercation between the 53-year-old and his daughter. Both were released after about an hour, and no charges were pressed, said an LAPD spokeswoman.

Williams was offered a two-year job with the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA club. He visited the home of the LA Lakers on Monday, and was in town for interviews with "Entertainment Tonight" and other media outlets.

Williams, who pleaded guilty to theft charges after being arrested last May, had been living in a tent when he was discovered in the online clip showcasing his deep vocal tone and polished pronunciation.

Thanks for the link to the analysis of the video Paul.

I think that the key thing driving the spread of this
video was the power of the storyline...

After seeing the video, it was something you simply
      had to tell others about.

A bit like the Susan Boyle video that went viral over
a year ago. The incongruity between the appearance
and the voice was irresistible. Plus, seeing unused
talent is a story that people can relate to in their
      own lives.

For those who've studied how to tell effective stories,
you'll spot that it was a classic storyline revolving
      around rags and riches.

People love a rags to riches story and a riches to rags
story and this had them both.

Ted told the story of how his career was going well
and then he fell on hard times through drugs and
      alcohol. (Riches to Rags).

Now the storyline is being propelled by Ted's success
in getting job offers because of his wonderful voice.
      (Rags to Riches).

Now, his career is on the up and up and I wish him
      well.

The media, like always, will look for opportunities to
knock Ted and begin the Riches to Rags storyline.

Apart from Ted's wonderful voice, his candor and
willingness to be vulnerable was alluring.

All this, added spice to make it an irresistible story
      worth spreading.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

      Shaun

On the radio today they said he had a big blow up with one of his 9 kids and the cops came. They played a sound clip of his daughter freaking out on him and hitting him etc.

She then said she would sell the audio of him bad mouthing her.
