Please don't run/install them on your system without the help of a computer geek unless you know what you're doing - that is, unless you're an expert computer user.

Downloading from the actual sites or trusted sites is what is important

I see many places lately trying to get you to download from places other than the originators websites, this is a red flag for trouble

    thanks

The redirect virus is more powerful than the traditional anti-virus tools like Avast, Avira and so on.

I think I have this virus, my girlfriend downloaded a torrent that was less than legitimate. Does it originate from svchost? Avast blocks it most of the time but every now and then when I follow links from Google I get redirected to weird sites usually promoting something.

What's the best tool to get rid of it?

svchost is your windows services do not delete it.

You can use a tool called super anti spyware that should remove the issue you are dealing with sounds like a trojan.(backdoor virus)

You can also download malware bytes I do not recommend AVG anymore as it has some issues in detecting certain virus types. super anti spyware and malware bytes combined will give you a good protection.

Once you download super anti spyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
Install it update it and restart your computer once it restarts hit f8 before it goes to the windows splash screen choose safe mode.

once your computer loads the files run super check complete system scan and it will find and remove the problem restart the computer when it says to do so and you should be good to go .Download malware bytes Malwarebytes run that when your computer restarts to make sure restart when done and you should be secure
          HTH
          Cheers

Ya, 'cause this butt kissing forum is to nauseating to be around.
I am a member of several forums. Not too many, as one can spend a lot of time reading and posting, when that time could be more productively spent. If a forum that I joined proves to be of little or no value to me, I take a professional approach and simply stop visiting it and delete any links to it.

              Regards,

              Jeff.

Mate I would not be putting combofix link up only because if the person does not know what they are doing or not the best knowledge of computers/laptop it can cause untold grief for them just my 2cents

You are entitled to your opinion but I would advise you to bookmark this thread and save it as PDF because you might just realize so late that it's not crap.

Oh I get that both of those tools do it but what I meant to ask is which one of these tools would be best. A couple of the comments have made me wary of ComboFix now, which of the two would you recommend over the other?

Both of them work together but you have to know exactly what you're doing. You don't just download and install them because you felt like. And don't get them from fake sites.

Being a IT dude also, I use Avast free home edition in combination with Malwarebytes Spybot, and CCleaner...the issues with these playing together have been very minimal on my systems,..and Malwarebytes does an outstanding job of blocking bad sites. For their professional edition, it's 29 dollars a year or something like that,..well worth the money.

With CCleaner...one thing to be aware of,...it offers options to clean the registry,...unless you really know what you are doing, don't use this option,...some software has registry entries set up for additional options that you might add in the future,... and if CCleaner removes those, your system might end up running slooow...just my take and experience.

add: Also only download your programs from trusted sources. For Avast, download from Avast.com, for CCleaner from piriform.com and spybot from from safer-networking.org.

There in a simple statement is the reason most people get malware in the first place. They want something for nothing....so they search, search, search to find "free" software and end up on some site which is more than happy to give them "plentiful" free software, with "special features".

    Nice post, King Shiloh.

The starting point must remain keep your system updated, install good AV/Malware software, and stay away from hunting for "free" software.

btw, Lazy.....It is just a matter of time. As the footprint of Apple continues to grow with iPhones, iPods, iPads, and Macs, the profit incentive will finally tip enough and the people who fund these projects will put a team of top flight programmers on the job. The Apple OS may be inherently more secure, but it is not invulnerable. The day this happens it is going to be a very SAD day for Apple users worldwide. The fallout will be horrendous.

  • my advice is don't use anything that doesn't have a history of positive reviews. There are so many protection products to chhose, why use some obscure product?
