Unable to watch flash videos on Firefox 3.0.4

Has anyone else had problems watching flash videos on Firefox 3.0.4? I get a message saying you must have Java enabled and the latest version of Flash. I have both enabled but am unable to watch any flash videos to play from a html page from Firefox.
Any ideas I didn't have this problem before.

Thanks

John

first of all test your install of flash here

Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave and Flash Players

If you can't see the flash player banner then it's not working (I'm typing this in Firefox 3.0.4 and it works fine for me)

    To troubleshoot go to

    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...9166&sliceId=1

and to reinstall Flash for Firefox go to

    Adobe - Adobe Flash Player

    Hope you get it working!

Excellent link. I've just upgraded to Firefox 3.0.4 and although my Flash installation was working, my Shockwave plug-in wasn't. Thanks for saving me a lot of hassle

Quilst, I don't have a problem with youtube either. It's not Firefox!

I've had lots of problems with Firefox 2 and 3 and Flash.
I've been working on the problem lately.

I found out flash was installing by default into my file for
OPERA - which I use occasionally. I uninstalled and deleted
Opera and now FLASH still defaults to install in a non-existant
    directory!

    What idiocy!

I opened a support ticket with Adobe.

I read through a lot of stuff on the topic. It's a mess
and neither Mozilla nor Adobe is very interested in fixing
    it.

I have suggested this many times now in the WF and I'm not
    about to stop

I would move over to Google Chrome if I were you.
It's a easy switch because Google Chrome will load all information
from firefox or IE. And when I say everything I mean everything.
Your browsing history, bookmarks and even the passwords if you
are using IE or firefox to store them.

    1. Unintall your firefox flashplayer plugins as well as flashplayer completely from your computer and restart the computer.

    2. Open firefox. Search for flashplayer plugin or visit the flashplayer page for firefox and redownload and reinstall it.

    3. Do the same for the IE version.

Not sure why this happens but sometimes flashplayer and browsers get confused and your browsers may stop recognizing that you have it installed.

This problem is more common for IE but occasionally happens in firefox.

Once you do what I outlined above the issue should be resolved.

How do I isolate and eradicate flashplayer completely Josh?

I have it in IE... and as I mentioned it wants to install in a
    non-existant Opera directory.

My FF3 installation never even had a FlashPlayer plugin -
it just seems to have pulled the player out of the Opera
directory - but in practice it didn't work as well in FF
    as in Opera.

Its quite easy. Just go to your Windows control panel to the add and remove programs. Uninstall all occurrences of it. If you have the ff plugin there may be two occurrences of it.

If you never installed the firefox flashplayer plugin then that is why you cannot watch flash videos. There is a version of flashplayer for firefox that must be installed seperately.

I'm serious - I never installed it specifically in Firefox -
        when downloaded Adobe's flashplayer defaulted
into an Opera directory and continues to do so....
but most Flash sites still worked.

I guess I'll delete IE too and see if I can Firefox to prompt
me to install Flash. BTW - IE doesn't even appear on
my Add or Remove programs list - it's hiding from that
        method of uninstallation apparently.

FireFox crashes when I'm trying to watch youtube videos. And after a quick Google search I found that many other people are experiencing this issue as well.

I'm doing this while Warriors watch. Maybe somebody
            can learn from my mess.

I've killed Chrome, IE, and Opera. Eradicated Flash Player
            from my computer.

I reboot FF3 and I go to a flash site and it prompts me to
            install Flash!

            Eureka!

At last I have FireFox wanting to install a flash plugin!

SO I give it a chance... download flash again...

...and the damn thing installs it into the same damn nonexistant
            Opera directory - and fails!

I really enjoy Firefox. The same company makes another browser that has a more online functionality; especially for marketing. It will also play flash videos. You should try out Flock. You won't be disappointed

    I re-install Opera - works beautifully though I've never
managed to get it to import bookmarks from FF...

and it comes with a seamless, clean flash player...

Then I restart FF3 and the same problem happens... it
    fails to play flash consistently.

What a joke FF3 is... I look forward to the time when this
dinosaur becomes extinct and I no longer have to test
    sites for usability with it!

It may not have much to do with ff3. It's likely a problem with the flash plugin itself and windows. Not sure why it stops recognizing it sometimes but it is known to happen on occasion.

The problem you have is common in IE too.

I highly recommend you follow my earlier advice and uninstall all versions of FLASH PLAYER that you have installed including the IE and the Firefox versions and reinstall them.

You might even try uninstalling and reinstalling firefox.

Definitely has to be a window's issue somewhere. I upgraded to firefox 3 on my linux box and after flash was installed all the videos played perfectly.
