YouTube videos size has been changed to...

YouTube videos size has been changed (today? yesterday? few days ago?)

It's now 425x344 pixels.

So now most of them, if not all, have a black bar on the left and right sides.

EDIT:

Already discussed at (Thanks Josh):

Have to reload my videos in hd. My old vids look like dirt now. Wish the player would switch from 16:9 to 4:3. Most players are switchable, but not youtube. Actually vimeo is better.

I noticed they changed the size the other day. So yeah all the vids now have a black background on the sides...

    Actually its not.

The player is 640x360 wide screen.

We have been discussing it in depth this week already here:

You're right. I just had a quick look at the embed code to know the size.

Yeah, that's what I thought... the funny thing is that the embed code dimensions for YT has been wrong even before the change.

You'd think that with all the "google engineers" working for them they could at least get that right ;-)

One of the things Youtube has been doing for a long time is encoding your videos at 360x240 and displaying them on their site at 480x360 and yet providing you embed code that embeds them on external sites at 425 wide.

Now 640 wide is the default display and they still have their embed code at 425.

Eventually maybe google will figure out how to use its toy.

        Go figure :-)
