How Do You Ignite A Cold List?

Greetings Warriors:

I have a small list that I built organically
with video marketing but admittedly I
haven't contacted them for a few months
as I was busy building another project.

Now that new project is fast approaching
launch, I want to re-establish my relationship
with my first list. And I want to start conditioning
them to buy product.

I welcome any and all suggestions.

Regards,
John N.

    well...I would suggest to take advantage of the holiday season and thanks giving and all.

    Say that you sorry that you didn't contact them in some time, and with the x holiday as a motive..give them some wishes and then tell that your gonna get your product finished soon and they should stay tune from more emails from you containing X info

    Bribe them for their (renewed) attention by giving them some cool stuff.

    Get them clicking.

    Sound too simple? Think again.

    If you're determined to add a layer of complexity, shift the "clickers" to a NEW list in order to get the goodies. Then you have your hot list and your cold list. Just remember to set up your AR to remove them from the cold list when they confirm into the new hot list.

    Make a video.
    Write a report.
    Record an MP3.
    Set up a teleseminar.

    Or all of the above if you're resourceful.

    If you can get them talking to you and about you, they'll buy.

    Best,

    Brian

      Hi Brian, I like your suggestion but just have a little question. Whats the reason for creating a new list for the clickers if they are going to click no matter if they are on the old or new list. So you obviously dont forget about the cold list, Is that correct?

      So i take it you keep buttering up the cold list, trying to turn them into clickers, while you seal the deal with the hot list. Is that right?

        Hey Bob,

        The reason is two-fold:

        1) To rebuild a RESPONSIVE list.
        2) To avoid spam complaints which is a growing problem.

        Did you know that a VERY SIGNIFICANT percentage of email list subscribers define spam as "something I'm not interested in...". Not something UNSOLICITED that they're not interested in, just the fact that they're not interested makes it "spam" to somewhere in the neighborhood of 27% or possibly even higher. It's been a couple of mnths since I read the study but it BLEW MY MIND.

        And pissed me off...

          Thanks for clearing that up for me mate. 27% is a huge amount isnt it. Doesnt surprise me though. The word "Spam" is thrown around so much and is used so loosely these days. The list with ways you can spam the internet is so long but continues to grow.

          The word "Spam" is also now starting to be used offline. Spam phonecalls, spam sms text, spam junk mail, etc, etc.

          This is how I can see why a non-internet savvy person could precieve a surprise email as spam.

            remind them how they signed up to your list.
            send them a link to the original video, give them access to related resources..

      The answers so far have really got to the core of it.

      Just give your list a bunch of quality stuff as a "thanks for being on my list" gift.

      This should let them know you aren't solely about squeezing them for your own profit.

      Marian Berghes hit the nail on the head to use the holiday season to your advantage. Wish them well.

        As the OPs have suggested, you need to warm them up, and get them used to receiving messages from you again.

        You could:

        1. Send them a "sorry you haven't heard from me" message, and include some links which are relevant to whatever they wanted when they signed up. Promise them a BONUS which you'll send them in a few days;

        2. Four days later, send another enthusiastic message with the bonus (a report, MP3, video or other which is related to the reason they signed up);

        3. Four days later, send them another cheerful, useful message ending with a "surprise coming soon" note;

        4. Four days later, another "it's coming soon"...

        This gets them all warmed up for your launch.

        Avoid:

        * Sending off-topic messages. They signed up for a reason, so don't send them anything which isn't immediately useful;

        * Sending emails you've received from someone else for the launch;

        * Letting them cool off again. A list is only useful and responsive when you treat it with warmth and respect, and put the emphasis on helping your list, rather than on your own needs.

        Good luck. :-)

        Cheers

    Send them a Christmas Bonus or Thansgiving Bonus Special Offer or Start giving them content away for FREE just for being a subscriber of yours.

    It's a nice thing to hear from someone you signed up for a few months ago. If you just come out of the blue, they may have forgotten about you altogether but over time you'll be able to rebuild a relationship.

    Give them some great cool stuff like Brian mentioned but I'd try to get their mailing address so I could suprise them with a Christmas card in the mail box.

    Inside I would write a short message: "I appreciate you!"

      How do you ignite a cold list?

      I find lighter fluid and a match work just fine.

      All kidding aside, offer them something flat out off the charts. Make it
      something so impossible to pass up that they'd have to be crazy.

      However, the best advice is to never let your list get cold. I consistently
      send my lists content and occasional broadcasts.

      That way you never have to worry about this problem.

        John;

        To answer your question, I have one for you:

        "Why did these individuals join your list in the first place? What was it that you were offering and/or they were looking for that lead them to join your list?"

        What ever the answer is then...

        Re-establish contact with them first and foremost in a giving way ( free video, report etc.) that re-connects them to you in why the joined your list in the first place. This will help rebuild the relationship with them.

        Then start communicating regularly with them for 30 days or so before you start the selling process again.

        Hope this is helpful.

    Hey my recommendation would be

    1. apologise and explain to them briefly why you haven't contacted them "personal issues, business problems etc."

    2. give them something of high value (preferably something unique that you've created yourself) to make up for it

    3. then start building that relationship back from there.

    Cheers.
