Hi Erick, you are not a lone. My English is so horrible. But I'm still make money online. Try to outsource, you don't have to write articles by your self. you can pay someone to do it for you. if you don't have a product. you can buy reseller right or plr, or pay someone to created for you. The only think you must do is market your product. Know the market and have the right mind set. This is a business. hope this will help you

Eric,

If you live in Hong Kong, try starting an online business offering stuff to us in the west that we cannot find here. People are always looking for a good contact in the land of manufacturing heaven. The possibilities are endless. Hopefully this thread will pick up interest and we'll get more ideas on this.

Send me an email at support@thesecretfog.com and I'll get back with you with more ideas as I think of them

Hi Eric,

The things you've listed are just tools of the trade - they only apply when you have a clear job to do.

Knowing about PPC will never make you any money unless you have identified a market to serve and a suitable product to sell. Even then, front-end sales are the tip of the iceburg and you need a proper business back-end in order to build a sustainable income.

The reason you're not making money is because you're not in business. You just have some tools.

Take a step back and look at what your resources are, what value you have to offer - then look for a market that you can access and serve. THEN use your tools and knowledge to build the business.

No-one can tell you what you should be doing, only YOU know what value you have and who you can help.

I feel like Andy really hit it on the head. Here's what I have to add.

You need a plan. What skills or knowledge do you have that other people want or need? I went to a conference recently and one speaker talked about a coaching client of his who sold "how to raise rats" ebooks and was making 1500-2000$ a month! So random things do sell online if you get the product in front of the right audience.

Andy is right in saying you have a ton of tools. I would suggest laying out a process map (step 1 leads to this, which leads to that, etc) and look at how you can get a new visitor, convert him to your list, then sell products.

Look up mind-mapping and design one for your business. The big question is do you even see IM as a business? It is a business like any other. And I guarantee that GE or Proctor and Gamble have laid out process maps on their various business lines. Don't think you shouldn't either.

Yes, maybe your English isn't good...big deal...adapt. I have met many IMers from China, Korea, Japan, Malaysia who don't have the best English and yet make more money than I do

.

I hope that doesn't seem too harsh but excuses will only hold you back. Believe in yourself b/c if you don't, nobody will.

If you feel comfortable, feel free to Private Message or add me to facebook and we can talk further.

Be well,

Brad Spencer

Yes, you are not alone! We all struggle with this same issue. The Internet marketing Gurus expect us to pay them $997.00 for a product when we don't even have 2 nickles to rub together.
The next SUPER Guru Will be the one who teachs us how to make $100 twenty times or $50 forty times. Then we will have the $997 for their upsell product and some money in our own pocket.
But, back to your point.
You need a product. Best source is to get a product from clickbank, pick
one you like, pick one with a Sales page that looks really good. That makes sense to you. If you understand it, then your buyers will too!
After you sign up with them, its like you now have a FOR SALE sign in the middle of the desert. Your there, you have your product, but nobody comes. That's because you are 100 miles away from the interstate Highway. So whats the solution? YOU NOW NEED TO LEARN TO PROMOTE YOUR WEB PAGE (Sales Page). This is the area you need to concentrate on. MARKETING and PROMOTION. Several Ideas: (and you will want to do them all), Write an aticule about your product, put your web site URL at the bottom. And post the articles. Next, write a Press Release, then post the press release on the PR Sites. Do a Product Review, send it out.
Start at BLOG. go to Blogspot, easy to do. Chat about your product. Have links on your blog page to your product page.
So, after all is said and done, the key is to 1) have a PLAN OF ACTION and 2) work the plan. And Keep learning.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

Hi Eric,

I must tell you the truth.A lot of people have tried to make money online but failed badly not minding the beautiful plans that they have drawn, and the amount they are ready to spend in produt creation and promotion.

I know you will ask me,why?

The reason is not far removed here. Business stil remains a business whether it's done online or offline.Business has been defined as the provision of a solution to an problem of a particular set of people usually called niche for profit.

So my dear, the mindset of going to make money online has been the cause of the many failures that abound.just as you have been rightly use the internet to offer something to the west and even to we Africans that can't be easily sourced here.A peep at Alibaba.com - The world's largest online B2B marketplace. will open your eyes to many international business opportunity that are open to you just because you reside in HK

On 4 and 5 take out the words 'try to' from your plan.

It makes it sound as if you don't expect to achieve anything. Make a decision and 'do it'.

Read as much as you can from posts in the forum and read articles in Ezine Articles and any other directories in order to improve your English.

If you have the chance to watch any English speaking TV then watch it, especially children's programmes. It may sound silly but in children TV they speak much slower and repeat the words more.

Also If you know anyone that speaks English then practice with them, it will all help.

The site that Anup recommended is also very good.

Good luck!

Bum Marketing involves targeting small niche markets that have very less competition through articles, ads, squidoo lenses.. So in a way Article Marketing is an important part of Bum Marketing...

Eric,

Are you trying to make money online or trying to serve a market of prospects and clients that just happen to be searching online for products and service you might provide that they are looking for.

Hopefully this helps.

Cheers,

Rob

P.S. In the offline world, if you're in a massively competitive market with very few openings you can always offer to begin by working for free. Maybe you just need to offer to help somebody that's asking on a forum to begin to discover what you're good at and that they really want...

Dear Newbie, welcome to the forum!

As has been suggested, you should have a plan of action. What do you want to be doing today, tomorrow, a year from now, etc? How much money do you need to make? Do you have money to spend on growing your business? If not, read the threads that discuss marketing methods which use free resources. As Andy suggested, research the market and then find the product to market. You can always look at the top clickbank products and promote the 10 most popular with free blogs and articles. When you tire yourself out doing that, you will still come to Andy's advice: research the market/product first. Hope this helps. Good luck and welcome.

Hi Eric and welcome from someone else who is in Hong Kong.

For those who suggests that Eric sells products from HK to the West, obviously haven't visited HK. Prices are high here in HK, and most things we get here can be bought in the West. What you want is products from China to be sold to the West, which is why the majority of business people in HK go to China to run their factories or buy their products.

I agree with Andy, some of the advice given is terrible and wrong.

It is easy to go to clickbank and grab the top ten products, and then try and sell them by using lots of different means. Yet, people are given this advice and then wonder why they are not making any money. It is because they can't compete with those who have been selling them for years. They have the finance to outsource, they have the finance to use PPC and other means to get their ads seen by all.

It is like telling the little stall in the market that all they need to do is find the top ten products that walmart sells and then sell them and they will make money. Really? Does it work like that in the offline world? No people would expect the little business to sell at a reduced rate because it isn't worth their while to buy from them when they are in Walmart doing their weekly shopping.

Eric look at it this way, would you want to pay for a shop in Chunking Mansions, and then go around the other stores asking them what you should sell? Or would you pick a product and hope that the people in HK would buy it? See it wouldn't work, yet online people think that is the way to do it.

As Andy says, know who your market is, decide what type of business you want and then set out to plan and see how you can run that business.

Bev

  Hi,

To add on what Bev has shared, many new marketers wannabe do not do market research.

They have this herd mentality (which brings them into this IM "make fast money while you sleep")

With this kind of mindset to start off, naturally the same mindset is going to be applied on whatever they do.

That is why many grumble they do a few months and they did "1001" things and they know they only did 1 or 2 things.

So starting off right is really important for all marketers and I encourage anyone who want to come into this niche to talk to the many Advanced and Senior members in this forum and hear from them.

It is part of learning too.

If one does not even bother to do this, I think this niche is not the right one for you.

  Cheers,
  John

That's what I've been thinking while reading this thread. Why do you need to know english at all? You know enough to learn these tactics, which is awesome. Now take the tactics and apply them in your own language, on the side of the internet that none of us can take advantage of, because we don't know that language!

You're looking at it as a problem because your english isn't that good, but you should see it as an advantage that your english is good ENOUGH and your native language is one that has its own niches that might not be getting taken advantage of.

You have just as much, if not more, advantage than any of us.

And I have herd all the bunk before I just had a 1972 scrap mind you motorcycle gave to me and sold it for $200.00 before I could unload it. thats how ya make a buck find something new people want and sell it a 1000 times.

I'd be thinking along the lines of taking advantage of the fact you're in Hong Kong.

I'm betting there are very few sales letters written Kantonese and the competition in Google would be very low for Kantonese and Mandarin keywords related to internet marketing.

You could approach some of the leading marketers with good products and offer to translate their sales pages.

At worst you'll get an affiliate commission but more likely they'll give you a larger cut for doing the translation.

Then you can do SEO and run Google Adwords in your native language.

Another possibility is converting PLR products into your native language and keeping 100% of the profits.

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh

Hi Andrew,

Great advice on coming up with product in their native language.

Lately, there have been many threads in asking if it is profitable in coming up with products in native languages.

I think it is definitely profitable in the sense look at the magazines they have published in Hong Kong.

People are paying big bucks for them. Even in Singapore, locals are paying 3 times more to get them fly into our country from Hong Kong.

So I think it is definitely worth venturing into products written in native languages.

Another reason to do is there is more sense of closeness too. =)

My 2 cents.

Cheers,
John

Hi Michael,

I have to disagree with your advice.

Those are great actions to take - but only after you have a sound business to promote.

The reason I disagree with the advice is because you've said to start by going and choosing a product to promote.

If you were to open an offline business, you wouldn't pick a product and then hope you could sell it - you'd find a market that needed a solution.

Also you would take time to select where to open your business because the type of business you're starting would mean that different locations would be more suitable than others.

If you were starting a business to consumer company selling consumer products, you might look for a location where there were already related businesses so that you could guarantee footfall of your target market. You might also consider parking facilities, food and drink facilities, numbers of people trends at different times of day.

In short - you would have a bigger picture that was focused on building your business in a way that it was clear that you would get customers right from the start and factor-in what they'll need/want in the location where you start.

Picking a CB product and then running around trying to sell it is - in my opinion the exact opposite way to what I've found works.

When you are clear about a target market it's easy to make money because there's a reason for everything you do.

If you pick a product first, you're more likely to end up doing things that you 'hope' will make a difference.

It makes a massive difference to how you decide what activities will help, and what to expect from your efforts.

If your plan wasn't to find a market first - then yes.

Nothing else matters until you know what market you intend to operate in and how you expect it to reach your goals.

You can choose all the products you want but unless you know how to access the market that want/need it - you won't make any money.

Having a product to offer is simple, so it definitely shouldn't be the first place to start. You can always get a product to offer but you'll only sell it once you know how to access the market that want it.

So, consider what you plans are. If you want to become financially independent - article marketing is not going to be enough.

Consider the tools that you are aware of but forget about using them until you have something to target them at.

YOU need to decide what your business will be and how you expect it to make the amount of money that you're aiming to achieve.

Everyone can tell you 100 different things you can do, but until you decide what your business is, they're irrelevant and will just distract you.

So, stop looking for other people to tell you what business you should be in and decide for yourself.

Hi Eric,

Is there anything you are REALLY interested in, something that you have natural tallents for?

I've been where you are, looking for the way to "make money" but until you find YOUR natural path it will be a struggle & effort.

Can you follow what is natural for you & where your enthusiasum & energies flow?

You mention that English is not your first language, but you obviously have a good command of English - why not take English info' products & re-write them in your first language to help your countrymen?

What is your passion? Find it & follow it and the rest (making money will follow).

Best wishes,

Hi, Carl Henry

I am lack of self-confidence. I really don't know what my talents is.
But I know what I like, here is some Topic:
1. Seduction, Pickup girls
2. SEO
3. Internet Marketing
4. NLP
5. Mind reading, Mind Control, Mind Trick

Sure, I am not an expert in any of field now.

The idea of re-write some English info-product to my first language, I thinking of this before, but I worried about the Copyright issue. Is it all right to re-write something in different language? or need to buy PLR first?

Best wishes,
Eric

Hello from Ireland and welcome to the WF
You sure got plenty of advice and very helpful advice too.
A few people attempted to answer the question that needs to be answered - what business will you go into? There were a few suggestions that looked good - sourcing Hong Kong products that might not be available in the west was one and the other was about teaching your fellow Hong Kongians how to speak and write better English. I don't know the answer either. If I did I would be making a lot of dosh on the net. Like you I am fairly new to all this. I was impressed by AndyHenry's advice but I felt he might have made a few example suggestions and maybe he will. Anyway good luck and keep trying.

Yes, mindset adjustment is important...bcos when you have more money but with a loser mindset, you will most probably lose the money becos in the first place, you lack the confidence to keep your well-deserved money.

I would suggest that you write reports/ebooks about subjects you're really good at. Then have a Warrior friend edit and correct them. Your friend should know English very well. Offer him or her a percentage of your profits from sales. Sell the reports (one at a time) as WSO's and from your website. Or, offer your friend some help on their business. You wrote that you're good at SEO, well, trade them your SEO knowledge for them editing your report. You can never have too many Warrior friends

If you are buying products, follow the systems, and still cannot make any money...

What I would suggest is to find someone who will personally coach you.

This can be hard in the IM world, because very few people coach one-on-one.

If you do find anyone, they usually want to charge you an arm and a leg.

Ask around for Coaches and Mentors that are able to take new students.

That will be your best "hot route" to making money online.

"I buy a lot of WSO before and some ebook on clickbank,

My questions to you would be:

"What have you DONE?"

"What ACTIONS have you taken from the material you have invested in and studied?"

Studying won't make you money...

So...can you tell me...what have you done?

Hi Eric,

I think for a start you can offer to do the 'dirty work' for the marketers. People want to make money, however most don't to be bogged down by work. It isn't that they're lazy. It's just that they want money to improve their lives without being slaves to the work. See what I mean?

So, for a start, it's sometime good to be a 'dirty work' worker. Once you've accumulated some money and experience, you can delegate some 'dirty jobs' to others. Do it continuously until you're able to make money without actually doing the 'dirty work'.

Hi Eric,

I think the problem is information overload. It means that you try to learn too many things and do too many stuff too fast.

You need to focus on one method of making money online. But make sure it is a legal method and that there are people who have succeeded using that method.

Take action on that one method until you succeed. The after that you can build on it some more or move on to the next method.

I have free step-by-step videos that could help make money quickly so as to get you some capital to work on your preferred method of making money.

Sorry but I don't agree.
These are not "the basics". A lot of marketers are doing a killing without these tactics.
For example, Jeff Walker does not seem to make use of blogs and video submission or social networking for the multiple launches of PLF. That's just one out of many.

Anything "technical" is not really part of the basics.
I'd say the basics that are actually needed are just :
- how to find people that have money
- how to find what they need
- how to provide them value in exchange for that money.

If you know marketing then you know internet marketing, it's that simple.

Hi Eric,
I was given this advice by Armand Morin. Find a good niche and a hot product, sell it using PPC. As long as profit of the product is more than than your PPC cost, you are in business. Next tweet you sales page, i.e., split test. Sell 100 of the products. If new sales page sell more than the old one, adopt the new one and repeat the process. You can try this with something like $30 budget. You can try some of the cheaper search sites, e.g, MSN, it is cheaper.
That is 1 method.
My current mentor strongly advised me to give away products to build a list then, sell affiliate products to them. I started a few days ago giving an Ebook (his own product about List Building). I email safelists about the eBook. In less than 1 week, I have about 60 in my list. My mentor reckons, you should make $1 per month for each in your list. Good luck.

Thanks

PPC is dying out. Parking companies are looking for other ways to monetize and the way I see it ... CPA is the way to go. It has nothing to do with AC either. I know because I've being doing for over a year now and its been good to me.

Thanks
