How do I market my blog?

Ok so I have a blog (see signature) I am trying to get off the ground, its not going so well so I decided to throw some articles up on article directories to see if I can't get traffic through that. The only problem is I don't know what keywords are relevant to my blog, or what articles i could write to get the largest amount of traffic that actually has an interest in my blog. I am trying to cover most aspects of computers so I am having difficulty figuring out what to use for anchor text. Should I write articles to target traffic to certain posts in my blog, like writing articles about linux, then writing other articles about Windows? I am kind of lost here Help would be appreciated.

Hi your website is great and enticing.

      Can I ask some questions?

What software or plugin you use about your optin popup page?

How do you put a squeeze page on the right side?

What template you use? is it blogger?

      Hope you don't mind.

      Your smart..

      Thanks!

Hehe, "no blog is an island" :-P
Thanks, its interesting but not exactly what I was looking for. I was asking how to write articles and use keywords that target the audiences that I want. Because i have no clue how to categorize my blog.
And navy seal, its better to send him a PM because what you are doing can be considered thread hijacking, and its typically frowned upon.

Hmmm, you have chosen a pretty competitive blog topic. SEO could work in the long run, but quick results (PPC) would be better in my opinion for generating some traffic. Find a great course on facebook PPC because its still cheap to advertise with them. And include an opt in form on your blog or facebook fan page. Let your subscribers know everytime you update your blog and you receive guaranteed traffic
Ok, so how would I optimize my blog for SEO? From what i understand its getting a bunch of keywords together and using them constantly, but my blog is all over the place. Do I just need to set boundaries?

By looking at your blog, I do not understand why you have it.

No offense intended at all, it is just that your purpose is not very clear to me.

More articles. I got 7 hits today from one ezine article I wrote almost two years ago. Write articles on common problems and give some clear simple and accurate advice.

I don't know of anyone loading Linux and I am sure that is a good niche. Keep testing with articles. I have one article out 14 or 15 that pulls consistently and others that do not. Write articles and check your "stats" to find out which article begins to start pulling and write more there.

Go into computer related forums (there are forums for everything!) and find common issues and post about those issues with your blog and have a convenient blog post about it. Make comments on other blogs in related fields.

Also, use photos or good screen shots. I get hits from people searching for tile images believe it or not. This week alone 7 page views for photos.

          Good luck.

You need to be a little more specific and focus more on your target market. House wife? Teenager? Part-time? It will help you more in approaching toward that segment. Try writing article, social media network, free website tutoring for anyone who sign up this month, and submit your site to directories and build backlinks. Focus and narrow them down will help you get quality traffics.

I think you might need to be patient. Blogs take a time commitment of at least 6 months. I have a little formula - article supported by a video supported by a note on Facebook - everything is connected and directs you back to each other. This lets you connect with people in different ways.
And if nothing else, writing the blog keeps you off the streets at night.

Well, you can Google the title of the content you have written on your blog and see what result it came up... is there any blog talking about it... if yes start commenting on them, but do not spam them... I bet you will get nice traffic to your blog... commenting on other blog in the same niche you have can get real nice traffic trust me...

    Hey Theory5,

Sorry to hear about your predicament, I would use the google keyword tool to find out what you are already optimized for and focus on that for a while. Also, take a few of the keywords you are optimized for and write a couple articles and a few press releases. Press Releases can get your traffic ramped up really quickly if they get picked up by a bigger source. I would write a press release centered around the fact that you cover almost all areas in a tutorial format. Instead of submitting to article directories, try using something like AMA or Link Vine for posting to blogs.

I hope this has helped! Keep us posted on your progress

Start with some LONG TAIL, Regionalized keys in the titles of your posts, and make those posts at least 1000 words long. That will get Google interested.

After that it's the long build over time. No easy way to make it happen much faster.

You don't need links and you don't need article marketing, and you don't need to write compelling content. Just write posts on keys that are regional and not that competitive at first.

I fallow some of the tips to market my blogs :-
    1) Obtain and install customizable blog software – WordPress and Moveable Type are my favorites.
    2) Optimize the blog:
Template optimization – RSS subscription options, social bookmark links, HTML code, Unique title tags, URLs, Sitemap
Add helper plugins specific to WordPress or MT
Create keyword rich categories (reference your keyword glossary)
    3) Setup a Google account for Sitemap, validate and prep for future submission.
    4) Identify authoritative blogs, web sites and hubs for outbound resource links and blogroll.
    5) Engage in an ongoing link building campaign.
    6) Post regularly. If it’s a news oriented blog, 3-5 times per day. If it’s an authoritative blog, 3-5 times per week, but each post must be unique and high value.
    7) Monitor inbound links, traffic, comments and mentions of your blog – Google Alerts, Technorati, Blogpulse, Yahoo News, Ask Blogs and Feeds.
    8) Always respond to comments on your blog and when you detect a mention of your blog on another blog, thank that blogger in the comments of the post.
    9) Make contact with related bloggers on AND offline if possible.
    10) When making blog posts always cite the source with a link and don’t be afraid to mention popular bloggers by name. Use keywords in the blog post title, in the body of the post and use anchor text when you link to previous posts you’ve made.
    11) Use social networking services, forums and discussion threads to connect with other bloggers. If they like your stuff, they will link to you.
    12) Once your blog has 1000 or more subscribers, show your Feedburner badge and most important
    13) Build out your online networks through services such as MyBlogLog, Twitter and Facebook and leverage them to promote particularly useful content on your blog.

You could try writing more generalized tech related articles using exact terms that have at least a few thousand searches a month. For example the exact phrase "hard drive data recovery" gets about 4400 search results per month. Write a post on your blog optimized with that phrase. Use that exact phrase as the title of your post and sprinkle it or related terms through out the body. Ping, back link your blog post or submit to bookmark sites. If the competition is low enough, your post should start to move up on the search results over time and hopefully the traffic as well.
