[QUESTION FOR ALL WARRIORS] Email Subscriptions

Would you subscribe to a well-moderated list where all members can post emails, which would be:

1.Screened for spam

2.Screened for usefulness by a group of senior members

3.Scheduled to be delivered only once a WEEK

4.Strictly based on your interests, which in this case would be making money online

It could in fact be a weekly newsletter of sorts

This is just an idea, and any criticism, suggestions and offers are welcome.

Once a day would be going at it pretty hard. Expect a great deal of unsubs from such list.

    "Screened for spam"... Good Luck...

Anymore want to add to this... sounds like a safelist of sorts...

I really meant to keep it periodic

      Thanks for the nudge!

      Changed it to a WEEK.

This raises lots of questions for me.

What would I get in my weekly newsletter? Lots of sales emails targetted to my interests?

This would be in addition to the spam that I already have to wade through ... because that wouldn't stop.

How could I be sure that the people scrutinising the emails for whether they were really of interest to me, would do a good job? They may still send me stuff that I don't want and may eliminate things that would be of interest.

I don't really think I would subscribe to such a service. Sorry.

Would it be fine if you could opt for getting the Topics of each email sent to you in a weekly newsletter?
And by clicking on the links you could view the whole email, which would interest you.

Yes, that would be better. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes, as a former teacher I am anal about using the right words when communicating your ideas - So here goes:

The problem is what you discribe is NOT an email list as most marketers know it. (And they don't read the details, so the replies are irrelevant...)

The lists marketers have and love are uni-directional: they send messages to the subscribers. The technical term for it is "announcement lists".

What you mentioned in your OP is more like a "discussion list" - a very different thing.
Quote: a well-moderated list where all members can post emails...
    Think for example: discussion groups.
And even if you release a digest once a week... it won't make it a 'weeklly newsletter' - just once-in-a-week digest of all the emails sent by the memebrs.

In academia and among special interest groups this form of communication is well-known and used often but I am not sure I would want to participate in such a discussion form about IM.

    • I've debated creating a bit.ly newsletter but I think you have to use it for something other than another blog post dump on people's inboxes. You need to make it useful and think outside the box in terms of writing style.

I think that targeted lists in a newsletter are you best bet, such as "what to write about this week" which I've seen another site do.

You mean all the members or at least more than a few chipping in with articles about the same topic each week?

      Thanks for clarifying my intentions

Indeed I am part of several such study groups, and hence the interest in one for IM.
