14 Most Important SEO On-Page Factors, Do You Use Them?

The numbers means the priority so 1 is most prior and the last number is least prior but still has a priority.

On-Page Keyword Factors:

1. Keyword in the title - Place the most important keyword(s) in the html header of the title tag.

2. Place the keyword as first word in the title - As described above but just the first word.

3. Keyword in the domain name.

4. Keyword in the body text - This means you have to naturally place your keyword in your text, don't spam the keyword! Instead just use it "naturally".

5. Relevance between your text and the keyword.

6. Keywords in the H1 tag.

7. Keywords in the internal links of your website - Good navigation on your website is very important.

8. Keywords in the external links of your website - Make revelant external links.

9. Keywords in the URL - This is NOT the same as in the domain name so keep this in mind.

10. Keywords in h2/h3/h4 tags - just like the h1 tag, just don't spam it.

11. Keywords in the alt tag of your image - Some people might not see the images on your website, make sure you have an alt tag related to your website.

12. Keywords in the bold/strong tags.

13. Keywords in the META description - As you can see not very important very more, but it still does have priority!

14. Keywords in the META keywords tag- Same thing, not very important but still helps!

I personally do not use all of them, but it's good to keep this list with you everytime you create a post or page.

On-Page Properties:

1. Relevance in the content - Matt Cutts has told this is one of the most important properties.

2. Link Popularity within the site/ Internal link structure

3. Keywords in links to subpage's

4. Efficiënt link structure - 2 clicks on every page, no page deeper than 4 clicks

5. Quality of the links - Always link to a high quality website or content

6. Age of the pages

7. The quantity of index-able text per page - How much of the html is visible to get indexed.

8. Quality of the content from the pages.

9. Actuality of a page - How many times does a page get edited.

10. Length of the URL - Very important, don't add more than 4 levels

11. All content and html needs to be separated - Very important, Javascript, Css and all that needs to be apart from the content.

12. Html validation of the pages -The World Wide Web Consortium creates all these standards.

Very good cheat sheet to keep around

Not only are these items important, but deep linking to your inner pages is vital

I normally link to my inner pages for longtail keywords till I see traffic and focus on the other pages next

Focusing on the longtail keywords first for linking has worked well for me to get my search engine results in the higher competitive shorter keywords, since the root keyword is in the longtail

Good Cheat sheet to keep around, just needs some addition about use of longtail keywords

That's a great checklist, but I think that that the relevant external links, with good anchor text now carry more weight than they used to do, I would put that higher than 8, but where to fit it in?

I would have said instead of the H1 tag a year ago, but it's like the H1 tag has made a comeback from the SEO reports I have seen.

    None of these are important.

    Not really necessary.

Google's algorithm isn't smart enough to determine this and Google human reviewers, for the most part, are too busy to do this. It's not to say that you shouldn't have quality content, it will help you get links from people who like what you're saying, just that it won't directly affect ranking.

And, it's really up to your link profile. Do you think thefind.com and nextag.com have any quality in their scraped content?

Not really necessary as long as the levels aren't ridiculous.

It doesn't really matter since Google bot ignores these sections of a web page. However, separating them out from content will help you manage your site better.

Makes no difference at all as long as the errors on the page don't prevent the 'bot from accurately parsing the HTML.

I think that separating content from html may be a myth. Does anyone really believe that using inline style instead of an external style sheet will confuse a Google bot? I've always thought this was a myth created by web designers to make their customers more dependent on them.

SEO is an important part of building a successful website, and there are some proven SEO techniques that will help you get ranked higher in the search engines.

Knowing how to use your keywords is very important as you have clearly shown through your tips.

However, at the end of the day I think marketers need to remember that articles should give some value to the readers.

SEO is important, but SEO alone won’t make you money.

Readers are the ones who click ads, buy products, etc.

So don’t forget about them when building a website.
