How easy/hard is it to make money with football/soccer sites?

Hi,

Hope you warriors can help this soccer loving (Arsenal, if you need to know :-)) guy out...

I have a couple of cool soccer domains that are just begging to be filled with content and turned into great sites. Question is, is there money to be had in them there hills...? I've not come across any methods that seem that profitable to me and was wondering if I am wasting my time...love football but also love money (and my time).

So wanted to hear from anybody already turning a decent profit on a soccer blog as to the direction I can turn - be it autoblogging, betting affiliates, damn good content that brings in advertisers or something else...

Cheers in advance!
SB

If you have IDEAS there is money to be made. Many will disagree, but, in certain areas, I care very little about competition: particularly in the area of setting up websites/blogs. (I do use Market Samurai to analyze and deconstruct competition, though, for articles...)

When actually choosing a nice to go into though, I'm a firm believer in bringing on the competition. A niche has alot of competition because it's thriving...the challenging part is just trying to figure out how you can get in on that piece of the pie. Football/soccer will probably always be in demand.

While you construct your site, I'd recommend investing alot of time into guest posting with very high value content. Be sure, though, that you have some content on your website/blog first, because what is the point in driving people to your site through tactical guest posting if you have nothing there for them to devour in the first place?

Learn how to work in other's best interest, and you can effectively work in your own best interest (ie other bloggers WANT great content. THEY have an obligation to their readers to provide them with the best stuff. I've contacted some of the leading bloggers in IM/MMO and, because of the quality of my research and content, they jumped at it in a heartbeat. I even just exchanged emails with John Chow, and will be submitting a guest post there soon)

Tactically use other people/blogs to develop your own sites and personal brands. It will require leg work, but, if you have the ideas...i'd go for it!

I think you can make money from soccer:

    • Affiliate with:
      • Sky TV and Virgin Media (UK)
      • Online Betting Sites
      • Sites that let you watch soccer clips
      • CPA
    • Ad-sense
A good soccer site can get 1000's of daily views, especially when reporting a recent match. I've seen it done (in sites I have considered buying) but have never run such a site myself.

    Apologies for calling it soccer!

    Thanks guys, nice work!
Hate calling it soccer too, but have a feeling the number of friends from across the pond outnumber us Brits so wanted to make sure they'd "get it" :-)
I have some ideas, and have some content lined up, the guest posting I'm also aware of, so will take a much harder look at things...

One question - I have a domain that is a bit "rude", would this be a risk for Adsense? Even if the content isn't exactly rude?

I've consistently made a few thousand dollars per month with soccer sites. Definitely look into affiliate offers which have been mentioned here. I wont give away my exact sites, but some people are on the ball here

I've just been thinking about getting into soccer sites myself cos i do love the game and it would be great to make some income from a passion. I was concerned there may not be much money in it, good to see that there seems to be, so no real excuse not to give it a go then.

Only problem is I support West Ham so I,ve gone off the game a bit

Still, we're playing your lot tomorrow SB, so looking forward to a rare victory

    Or not.

Interesting as I often wonder if I could make any real money out of "Soccer" because I am a very big fan and also love playing it to. I can only really think of using the betting affiliates and Adsense to monetise though. Also, I would rather find an evergreen niche which I have an interest in and that would be more profitable.

sportsbook affiliate is the one that you need to be looking at, Bwin or ladbrokes is the best out there . And the payout is awesome , Ive seen many Sports blogs make money out of it.

But the dissavantage is most US users will not be useful with they click on your sportsbet affiliate because they cant sign up of bet on games

Im a neutral when it comes to the English Premiership but i support Real Madrid & Santos of Brazil

If you can tie these sites in with the Olympics (without infringing on copyrights such as its logo), you can make a killing over the next several months. I know a few Amazon affiliates who are raking it in already by selling high end sports equipment, related books, memorabilia, etc.

I think it will be tough to get your foot in the door with a general soccer site. There's a lot of well established sites already out there with proper staff and journalists on the payroll and it will be difficult to compete with them on their level. You might need to dig down a bit to carve yourself an identity.

I would approach it as an Arsenal fanzine website. Granted there's already a lot of them about as well, but they're not all top quality and at least you'll have a fighting chance.

I would set up a Wordpress blog/site. Add regular high quality opinionated articles about Arsenal, where you see them going, what you think of the players, the manager's decisions, do match reports etc. Mix that in with some blog curation about all the latest Arsenal news. And, don't forget to set up a twitter account and be active on it A LOT. Especially during live games, you want to be tweeting about every incident on the pitch. Tell your friends and family and get them involved too.

Hopefully that might build you some credibility and you might get a bit of momentum going.

I do have a soccer blog trying to sell soccer equipment and it gets about 3,000 unique visitors per month but I am hardly making any money with it; I use to make some money with Adsense until I had to change my country of residence and they made me close my account and apply for a new one. I applied 3 times but unsuccessfully. I Make way less promoting Amazon products; some of the affiliate programs you guys suggested might be worth investigating. Thank you guys.
