Internet Marketing: It's NOT About Money!!

Why many people have failed in online business?.

Well, the answers is simple, they do not understand that even though we are doing this to get money, It's NOT about money!!! Internet marketing is not just about money, It's a hobby, art of making money. It's about doing doing something that we love.

"Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money." ~ Walt Disney

"Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game." ~ Donald Trump

"Everyone says they want more money, but what they really want are the things that money can buy and the freedom of time that money affords. While you may think this is an insignificant difference, it is actually the reason so many people never become wealthy. They never understand that it's not about the money!" ~ Bob Proctor

"If you work just for money, you'll never make it, but if you love what you're doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours." ~ Ray Kroc

Stop thinking about money, and be honest with your efforts, then the money will come to you. Love what you do!.

So, are you ready to change?

I disagree with most of this! It's not about money completely, but it's NOT about doing what you love either. Yes you should do what you love, but the attitude in dealing with customers and clients should be to HELP them.

It's not about you. It's not about what you want. It's about wanting to help people and the perk is money. If your attitude is only toward yourself, then people will see through this and you are not going to be very successful. The money is the byproduct, and so is "doing what you love."

IM also shouldn't be a hobby...most people who are successful look at it as a business and you should too if you want to succeed in it. If you just look at it as a hobby you should expect to not make a real living at it.

Yes, while it's true that giving and helping are integral to helping your internet marketing grow and expand, this is still a business that we're working on, and not a hobby.

With any business, it's not all going to be a bed of roses where everything is fun, pleasant and interesting. There will be tedious work to do, as well as some unpleasant parts that you'd rather just avoid. This is all part and parcel of running a business, and you have to take the bad with the good, so please don't enter internet marketing with the misguided notion that you'll only be doing things you like and are passionate about.

You disagree? hmm Interesting. You need to "Love" dealing with customers and clients and help solve their problems, for you will fail quite simply.

Treating it as a business. Ok I can relate to that fact...

Yes I disagree....Again, you obviously didn't read my whole post. While I understand that you should love what you are doing and love dealing with people, you can't look at your business in just this angle. Read my post again, or read it completely through before commenting.

Well I got into IM to make money. It became something I like doing. Wouldn't say I love it because it has it's up's and downs. I am just trying to look at IM as a business that will make me some income. However I don't think people fail because they don't love IM. I mean they could probably make way more if it's a strong passion but I think people fail mostly because they don't take action or treat IM as a business. Anyway I do agree partially.

I like the quotes. And they come from some pretty powerful, successful people.

It's about doing doing something that we love.
Partially yes, but it's often taken out of context. I constantly remind my employees that yes, having a job they love is important but it also requires "hard work". And there is a "work" aspect to every job, that's why they call it "work". LOL

How many of you clean your toilets at home on a regular basis? We use them how many times a day? And they get dirty right? I wonder how many people would consider cleaning toilets fun. But it's got to be done.

Those that pay their dues will be successful. Life is about fun... and work.

You go right a head and keep thinking your way too. Because I do love what I do and it isn't about the money.

When I reverse engineer a 0-day malware I just found, or start a new IM project, it is a game to me. And the money is my way to keep score.

Now not everyone has to think about work in this way but yes I do. To me, work IS just a game and I love playing it.

And I have to honestly say, I'm playing the game VERY well.

    naw man.

    naw.

It's NOT a hobby. Treating it like one is precisely the reason
    why people DON'T make money.

So, they'll say things like, "oh, it's not about the money any
way..." - is THAT the reason they don't make any?

So no. It IS about the money. And it's also about the joy or
    PASSION in doing it.

Heck, you don't even have to be passionate about the work
you do - but it HELPS if you DO enjoy it on SOME level.

For some PASSIONS, there is no money "in it" (or very little
where the odds of success are minuscule). So, they'll do a
business where it's "about the money", take it and do what
    they ARE passionate about.

They can enjoy their work. And be passionate about where
and what they spend their money on.

If I have a passion to collect and build train models, where's
the money to be made as a hobbyist?

If I were REALISTIC, I would know the odds were against me
8 to 10 - at best. So, I'll do something I enjoy to make money
and build as many toy trains I want.

THAT'S what the message should be.

I really like this quote. It reminds me of trying to rank a site on the page one and then the fight to numero uno. Sometimes its easy, but sometimes I get in over my head with my research and I have a real "battle" on my hands.

That "battle" is a lot of fun for me. The money is important, yes. I wouldn't do what I do to not be making money. But when a site hits the spot I need it to in the SERP's I kind of have this moment of "now what?"

It doesn't last long and I move onto the next project while ensuring I profit from all the work I had done for the previous one. Somebody once asked me what comes after "everest?" It was easy to answer: another website, project or niche.

      really good advice
It would be good if your posts were at least as long as your forum name

It's not always about the money - Proctor was right when he said it's about what the money can buy.

If you are responsible for your own shelter and food, etc - you better be treating IM like a business rather than a hobby. Nothing make you focus on money more than not having any.

    Hoo it's about the feeling.

    Feeling doesn't pay the mortgage.

    So how do you:
pay the mortgage, build wealth AND get that feeling you are seeking?

Answer: Build your IM BUSINESS (Disney IS a business)
Around your PASSION or WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO (like walt disney did)

... and like with good ol' Walt Disney... the money will flow your way

I'm gonna differ from you on that one - a medical doctor don't become a doctor because of the money. They love helping sick people - it is all quite simple - if you are not passionate about im, you will never make a success from it!! It is like everything in life - does not matter how long you are passionate about it.

I wanted to come back and add one more thing about Walt Disney. He's an idol of mine, and while I agree with his quote that he didn't start Disneyland to make money, he certainly did to, as he put it "make dreams come true."

This translates in Walt Disney being in the business of making dreams come true. The man sold you a feeling and did quite well for himself.

Business is all about making money....Please don't kid yourself to thinking that it's not about making money. It is, otherwise, you are simply wasting your time and effort. Most people don't make it is because they got the wrong plan, wrong advice, not because they do it for money.

Every single one of us here are doing IM for money... and joy that money can bring. do we love the products we put up? For me, not really. But i love the people who bought them....and because they bought them, I continue to develop products that they want.

So ultimately, its all about the money....As long as you are in biz, you are talking money, period.

Internet marketing is NOT a hobby, it is a business. Sure, you can make IM as your hobby but you will not make a lot of money from it.

We don't need to be hypocrites here and say that we don't need money and we're just doing this whole IM thing just for enjoyment. LOL. All businesses are in business to make money. Of course, when we love what we're doing, money will come in bunches.

The statements are inspirational yet I cant agree with everything. Internet Marketing is about money, if it wasn't we shouldn't be here in the warriorforum in the first place. Once you get the hang of the business then it will be something you'll like doing and later it will be an enjoyable thing to do as you are already making cash.

I currently run 3 music related blogs - BUT I would not have set them up if I was not going to earn from them. That said, I would never have set them up if I didn't LOVE the subject.

IM is love and money. You need both to succeed and be happy.

I agree to some degree, you have to enjoy what you do or you might as well go out and get a normal job. For me, it is about the money but it's also about doing something that I enjoy, being able to be my own boss and work from home. Those features are all big in the list of importance, just as much as money!

That's exactly what I keep repeating over and over to my students. To Stop thinking Making Money. It's all about doing something we Love, you nailed it right there... Money will follow if you Love what you do.

Too many even here just focus on the Money aspect and you know what, they most all fail sooner or later!

Also, when you Love what you do, you don't consider it work, and you are naturally motivated. I could go on and on like this. My own success comes from the fact that I Love teaching IM and that's my focus! Not and ever the Money Making aspect of it!

I would and did teach without making a dime for many years. I'm still teaching today and sure, I make money in the process sometimes but Making Money is not my motivation vehicle.

Warren Buffet may be the 1 in a billion exception to that rule. But then again, we don't know exactly what he thinks daily behind the scene...

Actually, in Warren Buffet's case, making money (via stock analysis) really was a hobby and a passion of his ever since he was a kid. When he was in high school, he loved to analyze and pick profitable stocks long before he was of legal age to invest, and his picks turned out to be so accurate and profitable that adults were investing based on his prognostications!

I think the above question is related to whether we do something because it is our passion or because it makes you money? When I relate it to IM, most people try and start in this field by building a website or a blog. If you choose a topic that you are not intrested in, you will find yourself struggling to create intresting content.

If you have a website built around your passion but has very few monetisation aspects, you will still fail.
THE trick as with donald trump and others is finding a correct balance between profitability and passion.

Well, actually if we are thinking about money too much, we'll be totally frustrated if we are not making any money and may end up giving up. But if we love what we are doing, we'll give the best efforts on what we do, and that's where the money will come.

I've seen a lots of people, they are always talking about money, but forget to help others and give the best, and guess what?? They never make they money they want. Because the only thing in their head is just money and money. Nothing else..

I totally agree with your comment above! I was never successful until I started Loving what I did and as for "Money", I had never made so much money in my life! When you'll hit a $36,200 Pay day, you tell me how you'll feel. Kind of a numb happiness feeling...

I was happy with the money, but I also got many "zero" paydays too! I persevered because I loved teaching, and money was the last thing on my mind. I had to focus on what I loved most and it wasn't money! Sorry to disappoint so many here, but thats how I went from rags to riches.

I've seen a lots of people, they are always talking about money, but forget to help others and give the best, and guess what?? They never make they money they want.
And you were so concerned about helping people and giving your best that you couldn't resist putting an affiliate link (now removed) in your signature.

    Hypocrisy, your post has it.

Well that signature was just a test actually, that's not even my product. It has nothing to do with this post. Thanks..

So, are you ready to change?

(Just another tips from a dummy)
If you are not here to make money then one can only assume that you already have either a rich family, a well paid job that you enjoy, or a passive income. If it is the latter, then please fill us in, because I guess I write for a lot of people on this forum that "I am here for the MONEY".

You took away whatever your sig link was because it was a test. Please, if you are making a steady income (not 000's of dollars per day, but something substantial), show us the method, show us the results, show us - through affiliate links and a free report, although I doubt you need the affiliate cash because you are just along for the ride - how we can emulate your success.

If you are not making a steady income, please refrain from such banal comments, as I am sure the Warriors have much more pressing matters. Like MAKING MONEY. If you are rich by title, or are happy at your current employer, the rest assured, your statement is unhelpful to say the least.

You should of expected these kinds of replies cocombee. Nobody wants to hear the truth because most all are into it for the Money!

I stand behind you and your post for the most part and can relate to it. Now, how come you are not successful? It may be just a small detail you missed which is not relevant to your post. There is much more to all this than doing it for the "Love" of it or doing it for the Money aspect. It's mostly about "Knowledge"! You can Love the business you are in or want to make money like crazy but without knowledge, you are still doomed to failure. Let me teach you...

I like your philosophy. I think that making money is about giving to your customers what they want, and in the way they like it. When you´ll manage to find a way to satisfy your customers, and be noticed, you are going to make money. First of all, your customers have to trust your products.

You´ll be successful if you´ll manage to make your customers always happy, and they will keep buying all your products. This is the image of a successful business: when you have return customers.

I feel happy when I sell my products because I feel that I´ve helped someone with my work. I agree with you that you have to love what you do, but I also must say that you must love your customers. They must be for you as important as if they were your children. You have to help everyone find what they need.

I used to hate selling. However, after working for two decades in a store (which was was mine because my relatives gave it to me) I learned that selling was about building relationships with my customers. Many of them were my friends. I had many regular customers. So, I learned that selling is about serving your customers. The same is true online and offline.

In order to do what your customers want, many times you have to do many things beyond what you had the intention to, answer many questions, etc. There is a part that is really very tiring. However, life is complicated and we have to get adapted to many things we dislike if we want to survive.

NOT if you have a family to feed and bills to pay....

"Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game." ~ Donald Trump
Donald Trump was already living in wealth prior to making his own money (due to his father's business) so he could afford to "keep score".

With your current mindset I am curious to know how successful you've been at Internet Marketing so far?

Of course, at some level it has to be about the money, otherwise you could end up following a passion that has little commercial value, and as a result would be difficult to monetize.

You could be very passionate about some obscure hobby which you'd have a hard time monetizing - while you're free to pursue this, you're not really in the internet marketing realm anymore, are you? Now it's just become a hobby that you're intensely interested in.

Everything is about the money until............you have too much of it.

You can say to someone who has little money until your blue in the face that its not about the money, but TO THEM it IS always about the money and that's fair enough IMO.

    Marketing - not about money?

    Something does not compute here.

    Google define:marketing
    • selling: the exchange of goods for an agreed sum of money
    • the commercial processes involved in promoting and selling and distributing a product or service; "most companies have a manager in charge of marketing"
    • shopping at a market; "does the weekly marketing at the supermarket"
      wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

This is a marketing forum. Of course it is about money.

You quote billionaires, but you don't understand that their logic does not apply to that of an ordinary man. They have more than enough money and, of course, they can afford to say things like that. Reality is much different.

    Also, nice sig:
No affiliate links in sig files
If it's not about money, why are you so eager to sell affiliate products?

      Quoted for truth.

For me, it's all about the money. It's not that I don't like what I'm doing, but I can (and will) say, without hesitation, that I wouldn't be doing it if there was no monetary incentive/reward.

In other words, as pleasurable as I find it in comparison to other jobs and business endeavours I've undertaken in the past, I'd still - given the choice - rather be out trekking through the wilderness, climbing a mountain or stretched out on a tropical beach somewhere, you know?

Go back to the Proctor quote.

Money is a stack of dirty paper, shiny coins or digits stored in a computer somewhere. Having it isn't enough. Having the use of it brings all the things people who have never had money think of when they say "of course, it's about the money."

Take the TV show "Survivor", for example. Several of the players have been bona fide millionaires, either from their own efforts or from winning the prize on earlier seasons of the show. Drop them in whatever location the show will be in, and they have to scratch right along with everyone else. They "have" money, but what good does it do them?

For all of you folks who claim it's all about the money, here's a question to ponder...

If someone came out of the mist and handed you a shiny, new suitcase with $5 million in cash in it, and told you it was yours as long as you didn't spend it or use it in any other 'loophole' way (borrow against it, raffle it off, etc.), would it still mean as much to you?

Internet Marketing is a lot of thing!

You have those people in saling companies ( like Cleaning products ), people in affiliate marketing ( like Clickbank ) and more.

Depend of the type of business you have, you will use different way to market. When you start, you think money, money. But this is your goal. If you do one of this type of home business it's because you want to have an extra income or leave on your hard work.

Internet marketing is hard work. A lot of competions!

If you are using blog, you need to have traffic. A good way is to have a nice blog, where people will come back and talk to their friends, it's the same if you have a website.

And internet marketing is your passion too!

You need to love it. It's hard to build traffic or contact with people. TO be successfull, you give all the extra time you have. Different type of persons, some people start for the money, some because they like doing business or want to be their boss.

When you start internet marketing, you need to know your goal. Write why you want to start and stay focus on it. All the goal are good if you focus on it.
